2014 Rocky Top Roll VOLS' BCS TITLE HOPES DASHED. #4 Tennessee 27 Washington 30 In week 1 the #4 ranked Volunteers of Tennessee traveled to Seattle to match up with the Washington Huskies. Through 3 1/2 quarters it looked as though Tennessee might have had just a little too much for Washington. The difference was that while Washington was settling for FGs all game, the Vols were scoring touchdowns. The game looked the bleakest when after Wash cut the lead to 14-9 in the 3rd quarter the Vols drove down the length of the field to increase the lead to 21-9 heading into the 4th quarter. Still trailing 21-9 with 3:06 left in the game Washington finally got in the endzone when freshman HB Kyle Williams dove over the line for a TD. Then on the ensuing drive, Tennessee quarterback J. Hopkins, who played marvelously threw and interception in his own territory, giving Washington the ball back in Tenn territory down 21-16. The huskies would end up scoring on an 8 yard pass to TE D. Payne, and after a successful 2 point conversion the crowd was going absolutely nuts. But, Tennessee now down 3, still was to get the ball with 1:11 left in regulation. Tennessee drove down the field with precision looking to take the air right out of Washington and with :02 to go in the game, Tenn K J. Alexander nailed a 42 yard field goal right down the middle to send this game to overtime. Tennessee got the ball to begin overtime, and was driving but a crucial sack on 3rd down made them settle for a field goal. The Huskies got the ball and eventually led to another TD from the freshman running back K. Williams from 5 yards out. With a loss in it's first game of the year, the Tennessee's hopes for a national title were quickly dashed. The Vols' will continue to fight and hopefully rebound from this tragedy and win the SEC. Great summary Wdunn, I had to steal it, lol. I'm really pissed about this because it's going to take a lot of help to make the NC.
