PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST FOR IMPORTANT LEAGUE INFORMATION!!!

Again, another awesome job getting all of your games in so quickly! We got all of our games played and advanced a full day early! The franchise has been advanced, and week four is now open! The deadline to get your week 4 games played is Monday 9/15/14 @ Midnight EST.

REMEMBER: Game recaps for any divisional games are required and must be posted by the winner in the Game Summaries & Team News forum. As always, recaps of non-divisional games are much appreciated as well!

    LEAGUE SETTINGS

After much testing, we have made the following changes to the league settings:
    • Quarter Length: 9 mins - Accelerated Clock: ON - Min. Play Clock Time: 15 sec.
We have adjusted the quarter length in an attempt to allow for more plays in a game. So far this season, play counts have been very low and, as a result, so have stats and scores. The one thing we didn't want to do is to make the game take longer, as we understand that time is very valuable for all of our owners. After testing the above setting, we feel as though it will give us the perfect balance between a desirable number of plays, as well as still being able to hit that magic number of around an hour a game. Obviously every game can play out differently, and a lot depends on the amount of clock stoppages in any given game (incomplete passes, turnovers, etc). This is something we have devoted extensive testing to, but we will continue to evaluate going forward.

    • Penalty Sliders: Have been adjusted in an attempt to allow for a realistic number of calls
We have adjusted the penalty sliders in an attempt to give us more balance, as it relates to penalties, and even hopefully introduce penalties that as of yet have been scarce or completely non-existent.

    POINTS OF EMPHASIS

With all games being live streamed via Twitch, league management now has a tremendous opportunity to monitor league game play across the board. With this new tool, we have been able to identify some areas of concern, as it pertains to league game play, that we wanted to address.

    Offensive Audibles
    • One of the benefits to introducing the Accelerated Clock, is to cut down on the number of offensive audible and hot routes. While calling an audible or hot route is an integral part of the game, we shouldn't see guys practically creating a new play right at the line of scrimmage. If you need more than a hot route or two, maybe you need to call a timeout and select a more suitable play.
    Running From Spread Looks
    • Running our of a spread formation (3-4 WR) is not against the rules, but we want to make sure that it is not any team's primary running option. While running from a spread can be a great change of pace or good to catch a defense off guard, it should definitely be used in moderation.
    Fake Snaps
    • Fake snaps definitely have a place in this game, especially with the ability for defenders to jump the snap. However, we don't want to see this used excessively. When it is used every drive, and multiple times a drive, it gets old fast. Please refrain from excessive usage of the fake snap. (False start penalties have been bumped up, partly in an attempt to combat this practice)

Good luck to everyone in Week 4!

Interesting. I've always hated playing with the accelerated clock.
What does "min play clock time" mean?

Jim and I despise accelerated clock. The fact that we have decided to make this change should be even more meaningful. Trust me, we held some extensive, but fun testing.

It means the play clock will count down to 15 seconds for all plays in which the clock continues to move. You will find that in any "dead ball" situations or inside 2 minutes that accelerated clock is off and you will have the full 40 second play clock.

Even though my game against the Skins was a great game (Game Recap), I would like to use this thread to formally apologized to CTfromDC about the use of run plays from the shotgun on our last game. I like to run the ball a lot when i play and for some add reason i decided to use the Eagles offensive playbook for this game. Pls if u like to run the ball dont ever use that playbook cuz 90% of their running plays are from the shotgun. Again, i will like to apologized and it wont happen again.

I think Miki's post brings up a good point about the Playbooks. I haven't looked at the Eagles' PB but, what if he's accurate and it's running plays are 90% out of the spread formation? Would someone who normally uses that PB have to switch? Is there glitch that makes running from the spread more effective that a standard 2 back set? Just curious...

Is it just shotgun runs, or pistol too?

There isn't anything about the shotgun formation that is more effective. It's just the fact that it is shotgun heavy, and therefore, against our parameter to mix up your plays/formations on offense.

Yeah the Eagles playbook does not have a pistol formation. It just has single, weak and lots of shotgun formations... I will not be using that playbook again.

I hate to run out the shotgun but due to that stupid playbook if i wanted to call a running play i had to use the shotgun cuz i was not going to run the same running play from the weak set and single all game long.

I can confirm, the Eagles PB is mainly Shotgun (20 formations). Lots of Spread.

It's all good Mike. It was an honest mistake. Thank you for owning up to it.

Small sample size, but through 1 week of play I love this setting.

Agree, loved the Game Time. OAK-MIA came in at an hour almost on the dot, and it was a high-scoring, alot of passing type game. Game didn't feel rushed, felt you could settle into a gameplan. I know ACC clock takes some getting used to at first but it really becomes normal after awhile, I think. My other league has always used it so I don't even notice it really.
