PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST FOR IMPORTANT LEAGUE INFORMATION!!!

The franchise has been advanced, and week 5 is now open! The deadline to get your week 5 games played is Thursday 9/18/14 @ Midnight EST.

REMEMBER: Game recaps for any divisional games are required and must be posted by the winner in the Game Summaries & Team News forum. As always, recaps of non-divisional games are much appreciated as well!

    RULE CHANGE

Due to the use of accelerated clock, we have amended the rule on Hurry-Up Offense to now allow for it in the final THREE minutes of either half.

    THIS AND THAT

For those living under a rock; with the week 4 advance, The Q changed to 9 min quarters and turned accelerated clock on to 15 secs. Many liked the change, some didn't, but so far it appears as though the change is largely successful. We will continue to evaluate this going forward, and another change is not out of the question if deemed necessary.

Penalties also remain another area under close scrutiny. Again, we want to see penalties, as long as they don't become cripplingly excessive (save for an outlier here and there).

I believe we did better with our "Points of Emphasis" from last advance:

    Let's keep it up!

Good luck to everyone in Week 5!

In addition to the points that Jim brought up, please keep in mind that with the accelerated clock comes the mindset that the offense needs to snap the ball more quickly. As a matter of fact, this is not always the case.

Opponents on the defensive side of the ball already feel rushed to make adjustments. If you are on offense, remember that the accelerated clock is a runoff to 15 seconds. I repeat... 15 SECONDS. There should be plenty of time to allow the defense to set and make DEFENSIVE adjustments. Please, refrain from quick snapping and allow your opponent 3-4 seconds to make the necessary adjustments on defense. The only exception would be if the offense has only 2-3 seconds remaining on the playclock. Otherwise, there should be no problem with granting the defense time to make adjustments.

Also of note, in the illustration below are the average game times for those who had broadcast their week 4 games. As you can see, the longest game time was 1:14. Upon review of the footage from that game, Carl and Heath allowed the maximum time to expire when calling plays during stoppage time which resulted in a longer game result. With their game factored in and excluding those games that were not broadcast, the average game time was one hour on the nose; and that was each game being completed in regulation (no OT games). Throw out the Colts / Titans game and the league average was 58 minutes. The play count totals were vastly improved in comparison to the first few weeks of play as were the number of rushing attempts. The completion percentage average is around 60% which is good for the league as a whole. Completions in general will correlate with quicker game times. So if you are going to pass the ball a lot, you're going to see a longer game time unless you are completing your passes.

Please remember that BROADCASTING LEAGUE GAMES IS A REQUIREMENT, NOT AN OPTION. For the gentlemen who did not broadcast their game (Kevin Gomez Rhight coachgaddy dakota7 DJDunn6 RVallee MrWitness36 Miki1369), please respond why as I know some of you cited lag as a reason for discontinuing an attempted broadcast. If you experienced lag during your broadcast, was it resolved by discontinuing the broadcast, or did the lag continue? If you did not broadcast for reasons other than lag, please indicate why. Thanks in advance!

Good luck and have fun in week 5 gentlemen!!! (y)

I seem to have issues broadcasting. I usually drop even before kickoff. I've only gotten one broadcast to work and it was horribly laggy. When not broadcasting it's fine.

I have slower internet I think that's why. I don't have connection issues usually, I am hardwired and have opened Madden ports, just seems the broadcast overwhelms it.

Edit- also I did not mention it to Dunn maybe he could have broadcast, my fault on that.

I think the new changes are on point. 9 mins with that 15 sec run off work well. The prnalties is still eh as theres rarely ever holding or PI. I notice a lot of toughing the passer calls.

Roughing and face masks are high. Holdings are rare.

A little PI wouldn't hurt too. Since they throw the flag at anything in the NFL.

I assumed all home teams were required to stream I streamed my one home game. I will just stream them all from now on just in case my opponent is not.

I agree on the roughing the passer I have gotten 2 in each game against me and this last game both were on incomplete passes by a DE controlled by CPU. My opponents have gotten an even amount against them as well however.

Thanks, guys. We are aware of the penalties and will continue working at them. As always, our intent is to prevent the fire hose effect.

Gentlemen, great job getting your week 5 games completed so promptly! The last remaining week 5 game is being played tonight. Be prepared for the franchise to advance once the Lions / Bills game goes final which should shortly after midnight EST. (y)
