The Wolverines headed into Knoxville and waxed the 4th ranked Volunteers. It was a very impressive all around game for the Wolverines. The offense was clicking as true freshmen QB Sid Kerr maintained his composure in hostile territory, and the defense was tenacious. UM forced 7 turnovers, the most ever by the Wolverines in this dynasty. 6 INT's were also a new personal best. Michigan started off fast and never looked back. Big runs by Jason Burton and Leslie Cutler carried the load for the offense, and the changes in the starting line-up defensively paid big dividends for UM. FS Matt Townsend picked off two passes, returning one 90 something yards to the house. OLB Thomas Wesley also played stellar. Sid Kerr did not accunt for any TD's(I cant remember the last time my QB did not record aTD) but his solid consistent play controlled the clock and helped UM control the game.

Coach Hood and Coach Tuco finally played each other for the first time, it was a much closer game than the score would suggest. Both teams played hard until the very end, but it would come down to the costly turnovers committed by the Badgers and the offensive efficiency of the Wolverines. Wisconsin did a fantastic job of controlling the clock; they had it over 60% of the game. They had success moving the ball; just the turnovers and 2 pick-sixes would be the difference.

Coach Hood and Coach King played each other for the first time in what was a pretty good game. The Wolverines would jump out to an early lead behind solid defense and Sid Kerr, but the Nittany Lions would not go away easily. PSU true freshmen QB Jeff Watkins made some plays and at one point in the 3rd quarter it was a 3 point Wolverine lead. PSU moved the ball well but in the end turnovers did them in. 3 interceptions by the Wolverines were the deciding factor as Michigan kept its perfect season intact.
