    Ohio State at Boise State

Ohio State was searching for answers coming into this game. Coach JFunk had dedicated this week of practice to address the fundamentals and diagnose the ailments of his offense. A few tweaks in the philosophy and execution of his offense did show promise on the field. Using a semblance of a two QB system The Bucks were able to rack up 416 yards of total offense, 175 of those coming on the ground and 241 coming through the air. The Bucks got out to a slow start with Boise State actually going up by 10-0 in the first. But Ohio State finally woke up in the second scoring 27 points including an impressive 51-yard TD by QB Anthony Griffin and a 60-yard fumble recovery for a TD by Alfred Bellamy. After that The Bucks played very well and never gave The Broncos much of a chance to get back in the game. Ohio State improves to 1-2(0-0).

    FINAL SCORE
    Bucks-48 Boise-16

    Player of the Game
    QB Anthony Griffin
    5-7 for 81 Yds, 8 Car, 82 Yds, 4 total TD’s

    Next week vs Penn State

    Ohio State vs Penn State

Ohio State is building confidence as the season goes along. They are becoming comfortable with their new offensive game plan and the defense has begun to step up and make big plays to make the game easier for the offense to win. Penn State has been a tough team for Ohio State with a very tough offense to defend. Ohio State did a good job in this game of limiting the opportunities in this game and keeping Penn State out of synch. The Bucks offense was able to rack up 370 total yards compared to just 220 for Penn State. Redshirt freshman QB Anthony Griffin is really starting to mature and get into a groove and is leading the offense well. This game was a defensive struggle throughout. Ohio State was up just 3-0 at the end of the first and 10-7 at the half. The difference in the game was big plays. The Bucks had two big plays and Penn State one. Those big plays resulted in TD’s which would ultimately be the difference in the game. Ohio State improves to 2-2(1-0).

    FINAL SCORE
    Bucks-17 PSU-7

    Player of the Game
    QB Anthony Griffin
    12-14, 239 Yds, TD, 5 Rushes, 73 Yds

Even with Ohio State’s struggles early in the season they are a team that ultimately controls their own destiny. They can still win the Big 10 and if with some key losses at the top could still sneak into the National Championship picture. They also know that to salvage this season they need to win out, especially in the Big 10. Iowa came into this game looking to derail those hopes but would get embarrassed on their own field. The game started out looking like a close one with a 7-7 tie going into the second quarter. The second quarter was a different story, it was all Bucks. The Buckeyes hammered Iowa in the second to the tune of 24-0 making a 31-7 lead going into the half. With that lead Ohio State let up on the reeling Hawkeyes in the second half with a very conservative game plan just to run out the clock. Ohio State improves to 3-2(2-0).

    FINAL SCORE
    Bucks-41 Iowa-10

    Player of the Game
    QB Anthony Griffin
    12-14 for 323 Yds, 2 TD’s

Memphis was scrappy in this game. They were able to spread the field out and move the ball well through the air. But regardless of that their defense couldn’t stop the Buckeye offense, especially the running game. The Bucks were able to rack up 333 yards on the ground. Ohio State was very impressive moving the ball, only finding themselves in one third down situation, which they converted. Memphis on the other hand was in 14 third down situations and only converted 3 of them. Ohio State improved to 4-2(1-0).

The Spartans would have been well served to not even show up for this game. But they did and were utterly destroyed for their troubles. They could muster only 113 total yards with 102 of them coming through the air. With only 5 first downs and going 2 of 10 on third down conversions it was bound to be a bad day for the Spartans. The Bucks on the other hand amassed 432 yards of total offense and was 5 of 7 on third down conversions. They also had 25 first downs and controlled the ball for almost 80 percent of the game. Michigan State never stood a chance. Ohio State improves to 5-2(2-0).

    FINAL SCORE
    Bucks-45 MSU-0

    QB Anthony Griffin
