The Cornhuskers kicked off the season with a home game against SMU. The highly touted :5stars: Freshman HB Josh McBride from Nebraska made a big splash in today's game, starting the game out with a bang has he trucked up the field for 63 yards and his first college TD; unfortunately,he left the game early with a minor injury that would put him out for 2 weeks. Backup HB Jared Johnson did a nice job filling in, racking up 130 yards on 17 carries and 3 TDs. Before McBride's early exit, he had 129 yards on 14 carries and 3 TDs. Nate Holt will be Nebraska's starting QB this year, and went 10/15 on 167 yds, with 1 TD and 1 INT. The defense gave up a few big plays, but ultimately played lights out. They forced 3 turnovers. Nebraska now sets its sights on familiar foe Miami in week 2. Can they pull it off without McBride?

The Nebraska Cornhuksers get an early taste of bitter defeat this season, as Holt's comeback efforts were not enough to hurdle the Cornhuskers past Miami. Coach Fuzzy knew this moment would come with a rebuilding year, but it's never easy to take a loss. Star freshman half-back Josh McBride had to sit this one out with a knee injury. Jared Johnson did have much success, rushing for a mere 66 yards on 18 attempts with 1 TD. He also one very costly fumble. Nate Holt left the game early with an injury, and backup QB Ben Anderson didn't do so hot, going 5/15 passing on 155 yards with 1 TD and 2 big INTs. He is not the most accurate thrower. By the time Holt returned, it was simply too late. He did manage to throw two late TD passes, his stats were: 13/25 212 yds 2 TDs 1 INT. The Cornhuskers will face a huge opponent next week in Ann Arbor, none other than the #3 Michigan Wolverines.

Nebraska fans feel sick after watching this defeat, as six costly turnovers committed by the offense cost the Cornhuskers the game. Nate Holt threw 2 INTs, and the freshman HB McBride coughed up the ball four times. The young player may have been trying too hard to gain an extra yard or two. The down pour of rain and torrents of sound generated within The Big House didn't make any thing easier for Nebraska's confidence. Coach Fuzzy hopes to bounce back after suffering 2 close losses in a row, both dictated by turnovers.

Nebraska sought redemption in its home conference opener, and succeeded in snagging the win. There was a bit of drama early in the game, as coach Fuzzy quickly pulled starting QB Nate Holt from the game after a terrible pass was thrown for an interception. He had a wide open man, but over-shot him and lobbed it right to the defender. With 2 losses on the schedule already, and last week's melt down against Michigan, the coach felt more confident in his backup. Ben Anderson came in and managed the game, going 8/16 144 yds 1 TD 0 INTs. Josh McBride redeemed himself from last week's mishap, gaining 212 yards on 27 carries, with 2 TDs. He was pulled from the game in the third with an injury. Nebraska hopes this game will be the catalyst they needed to start winning again this season.

Here are the two relevant videos from the game, a 25+ yard rush and 25+ yard pass to the TE. I may have moved pre-maturely to the right on the pass play, but I didn't know if my offensive line was going to block that end.
