Sooner Preview 2015
The 2015 version of the Oklahoma Sooners feature firepower offensively and a capable defense that should allow the defending Big XII champs to again contend for national honors.
On offense, the Sooners will rely on a dominant offensive line to pave the road for talented running backs Corny Turner and Thomas Stewart. Stewart got the bulk of the carries in 2014. Derrick Frederick was recruited as an athlete out of high school and now takes the reigns as starter. The Leon Valley, Texas native has seen spot duty in two previous seasons but now is called on to manage the offense.
Defensively, the Sooner defense has talent but is not as strong in the line as in 2014. All-American Jeremy Phillips left early for the NFL, leaving Jonathan Gilbert to provide the pass rush at the left end spot. The strength of the defense is at linebacker, where MLB Jon Burgess will start for the third straight season and OLB Sam Arrington, who is also an impact player. Overall, the defense starts just four seniors and should be better in 2016.
