Who wins the 'Week 1 Insta-Commit Title" this season? Texas only got 1 this time.

    DE(#2) :4stars:
    6'1 257lb Borger, TX
    Josh Carter
Looks like a real solid all-around prospect. Not exactly a position of need as Texas has 4 underclassmen at DE, but we always have a place for kids like this at OLB in our 3-4 looks. He will be a good player someday.

I had 8 guys on my board that listed me as #1 and I didn't get a single insta-commit.

    DE(#6) :4stars: Douglas Frye / 6'4 / 234lbs / OK / B- in Speed, Tackle, Hit Power, and Block Shedding
Was a real "get" for Oregon. Not much depth at this position for the ducks so could see playing time as a true freshman.

LSU received an insta-commit from the #1 T in this years class, :5stars: Brad Harris out of LA. Brad is a mountain of a man, at 6'6" and 336 lbs, and is equally good in the running and passing game. He will almost definitely start somewhere on the OL next season, and he is the first :5stars: to sign with LSU since I took over the program.

    **** DT Kyle Hicks - 6'3" - 247 LBs - Missouri

Making an effort to establish pipelines away from the big 3 (TX, CA, FL) pays off for Nebraska, as they land this highly touted recruit from neighboring Missouri. Nebraska currently has depth at DT so Hicks will have to wait to contribute. As you can tell by his weight (247 LBs), this delay is probably his best option.

Notre Dame definitely wins the insta commit battle, bagging a 3 *** punter, Justin Moore.

Only took 10 minutes to get Wilson, but still not that excited by this signing. He likely never sees the field for Florida due to depth at QB, and Wilson's mediocrity. If I run out of scholarships then this was a bad signing, but I had 9 unused scholarships last season.

Here is the attributes on my week 1 signing:

We are pretty deep at OLB but can't complain when signing the #1 player at that position. He is a solid prospect and should start in a couple seasons.

I have 16 scholarships available I think (9 seniors + 7 empty spots). I may have a couple walk-on players to cut as well.

So far I have signed 6 players and with Green signing I'm really pissed I offered Wilson. Most of my visits are week 6, so hopefully the players hold out for another week or two.

:5stars: Lorenzo Green- QB ESPN 150
    :4stars: Joel Walker - FS ESPN 150
    :4stars: Kevin Vinson - OLB ESPN 150
:4stars: Cory Williams - WR JUCO
    :4stars: Doug Wilson - QB
:3stars: Corey Gardner - CB JUCO

Oklahoma pulled their offers on a few recruits and that made a few kids decisions that much easier.

    DT(#2) :4stars:
    6'4 283lb Martinsville, VA
    Lee Porter
Team speed! Porter is big and has elite speed for a DT(B-Accel C-Spd). Lee is strong too(B-Str, B Tack) and has a nose for the football(B-Pursuit). He'll have to work on getting off his blocks and get his conditioning up to snuff, but he should turn into a monster inside presence for the Horns in a couple of seasons.

    TE(#1) :4stars:
    6'4 265lb Poteau, OK
    Ron McCall
Replacing Marcus Kendrick at TE will most likely prove impossible, and this kid will never be the pass-catching threat M.K. was. McCall though, has his own redeeming qualities though. Besides being the #1 prospect at his position, Ron will be an asset to Texas' o-line. His blocking skills are unmatched at the TE slot, and is in good enough shape to start playing immediately. McCall should act as a 3rd tackle in running plays, and has a serviceable skill-set once he gets out in space.

    T(#4):4stars:
    6'3 309lb Brownsville, TX
    Mark Tillman
Tillman, cousin of deceased NFL player and Army Hero Pat Tillman, almost looks ready for the big leagues now. He has the size, speed, and strength you look for in a lineman. He gets off the line at an elite level(A-Accel) and is equally adept in the run-game and pass-game. The only knock on this kid right now is his tendency to hit the oxygen mask after every series(D Stamina). That is something he can work on at Texas' world-class athletic facilities though. Watch for Tillman to become a force on the edge.

    QB(#5) :4stars:
    6'5 214lb Tyler, TX
    Lawrence Dukes
Plan B for the Longhorns. Coach Max has his eyes fixed on Paul brink as his QB of the future and Oklahoma withdrawing their offer on him has all but assured the #4 QB will become a Longhorn, but Dukes will be a great addition to the team. He has the size you look for in a signal-caller and can make the throws(B THP/THA). He will definitely be a statue in the pocket(D- Spd,Accel,Agi) but is in great physical condition (B Sta/Inj). Texas landing Dukes was the result of an intense recruiting battle between the Horns and USC. Look for Dukes to redshirt.

    lol no comment

Honestly though, I think basis dropped a T because he landed the #3 T. Not sure why he pulled the scholly from Brink (5stars QB out of OK). I guess pulling the scholly from that #1 TE out of OK, McCall (If he did that I cant recall) was a good move as I locked him up the next week iirc.

Confirmed that CPU signed 2 walk-on players, so I have 18 scholarships available

One was used on this guy

Anderson is not the brightest bulb so he needed to hit up junior college to get academically eligible. This will cost him a year of eligibility but he still has 3 years remaining. Overall he is very skilled and should be an excellent addition to Florida's reworked secondary. The Gators have already signed a JUCO CB and the #1 free safety in the class. The #2 and #3 free safeties are visiting this week, with the #2 a near certainty to end up at Gainseville. The Gators also have a :5stars: athlete who may sign this week and he also could end up in the secondary.

Big haul this week for Florida.
    - (****) RT Jeremy Avery has committed to Florida
    - (****) LG Daniel Ashley has committed to Florida
    - (****) FS Jacob White has committed to Florida
    - (****) WR David Singleton has committed to Florida
    - (*****) C Kevin Alston has committed to Florida
    - (*****) FS Shawn Hicks has committed to Florida

Hicks will likely line up at CB and not FS. He is an athlete with A speed and acceleration, and decent cover skills. Overall I am pleased with this class so far and hopefully I can land a few more guys before the offseason.

    P(#1) :4stars:
    5'10 223lb N Little Rock, AR
    Kevin Johnson
The best option Texas had at P/K in this year's class. B- kick power will be definitely be a downgrade, but hey. He's better than a walk-on.

    CB(#3) :4stars:
    6'1 180lb Brenham, TX
    Antonio Lawson
Texas continues their tradition of gobbling up DB croots. A speed/accel and B mcv/zcv should let this kid develop into a great Corner. Has good size at the position too.

    T(#68) :3stars:
    JUCO(JR)
    6'2 269lb Clute, TX
    Courtney Holland
Texas digs deep into the JUCO ranks to pluck out a Tackle. The offensive line for Texas could quickly transform from a strength into a weakness. Coach Max is doing his best to bolster the depth chart.

    OLB(#9) :4stars:
    6'1 209lb Tyler, TX
    Brian Steele
A solid recruit with elite quickness (A+ Accel) He has good form with his tackles and can lay big hits (B Tackle/Hit Pwr/Strength). He will join a very young, but very talented LB corps next year in Austin. His arrival may allow for some others to move between LB positions on the DC.

Keeping the wolves at bay with this signing

    ATH(#2) :5stars:
    6'0 184lb Barling, AR
    Terry Carlton
This "5-star-lock" croot was a hot commodity amongst powerhouse schools this year. LSU and Notre Dame were clearly in the mix as he went on official visits to both campuses. In the end though, Texas tradition of grooming some of the best defensive backs in the country was too much for this athlete to ignore. His natural position is at FS, but he could easily transition to CB or SS depending on Texas' needs. Carlton has elite speed and quickness, is in remarkable physical condition for his age, and has that mean-streak Texas coaches look for. Also played some RB/WR in HS so his possible positions are endless. He should see the field very soon.
