The Volunteers would notch a win against a top 25 team on the road in their first game of the season. This was the first meeting between the programs since Coach Noknee has taken over the UT program and was able to notch a win against a familiar Big Ten foe in Wisconsin. The Badgers seemingly dominated the first half but 3 TDs in a little over 30 seconds late in the first half gave the edge to the Volunteers heading into halftime. The game was hard fought but the momentum from the first half was too much to overcome and UT holds on to win against a very formidable game 1 opponent.

Coach Noknee displeased with how the first half started said, "I'm proud of how our team rallied. As soon as we scored that first TD we decided we could play with this team and that we need to prove our preseason ranking. We were able to come away with a win today but we were very fortunate. You can't go down 17-0 and expect to win every time. We have a bye next week so we'll focus on coming out stronger to start the game when we go to South Carolina in 2 weeks."

    Recruiting Update
Offensive linemen Brian Ferguson committed to the Volunteers this week, giving Tennessee it's first commit of the class. He's a 4-star guard who has excellent footwork for his size. To become a force at the next level he'll really have to hit the weights and improve on his aggressiveness in run blocking. He has a tendency to not finish off blocks that may keep him from becoming elite at his position. He'll be close to home as he lives a mere 150 miles away from Knoxville.

Tennessee is currently solid at the guard position, and Ferguson could come in and battle for a starting spot next year, however he will likely red shirt and see real starting time beginning his red shirt sophomore year.

Tennessee came out completely flat in their first conference game of the season. On the road and facing a crowd itching for a win to start off their season, the Volunteers were in the lead for the entirety of the game until the last minute. South Carolina would pull ahead 35-31 with 1 minute and 1 second left to play. It would take 2 fourth down conversions to finally set up this game winning TD play

However, the Gamecocks would not give up. They drove the length of the field down to about the 30. With 6 seconds left they chose to run an inside run play in the hopes to get only a few yards of field position. The South Carolina running back broke through and nearly took it into the endzone for the win but a shoestring tackle saved the victory of the Volunteers 38-35.

Coach Noknee's thoughts after the game. "The team came out flat and South Carolina took advantage. Our Offense while it put up 38 points was atrocious. 20 drops by our backs and receivers? That's not going to get a done in the SEC and we just showed we nearly lost to a team we should have beat by a larger margin. There will be plenty to talk about during the film session, Monday."

For the third straight game the Volunteers eek out a 3 point win, and the second one against a conference opponent. The Volunteers struggled against on offense, but the receivers did show a marked improvement. They still dropped 10 balls but anything was better than the 20 drop performance against South Carolina.

The Volunteers played strong ball control offense and behind the legs of Davis who ran at will against the hapless Razorback defense they were able to take down Arkansas 27-24
