Last Season: (10-3), (2-5) All-Time versus Oklahoma Offense: Last season the Cowboys were a young and mostly unexperienced group of players that managed to eek out a 10 win season. QB Joel Newton was up & down as expected, but it suprised everyone when Coach Gundy decided to go with the Juco Transfer Yankee loving QB Kirk Jackson from New Haven Connecticut. Kirk is not nearly as gifted athletically as Newton, but what won coach Gundy over was Jackson's demeanor in the huddle and on the practice field in the spring. On top of that, Jackson is highly accurate and really was spot on, something we have not seen from a OSU QB since Brandon Weeden. "Kirk is a fiery guy from New Haven, he has that "it" factor as a leader and he demands alot from his 10 players on the field. We are proud of the way Kirk has developed and we think it will show Week 1." said Coach Gundy. Leading receiver and 3-year letterman Kevin Sherman returns as the #1 WR followed by the Wilson brothers manning the outside and slot positions. True Freshman Doug Hunter will play Joker and has been a pleasant surprise for a 18 year old youngster. tailback Robert Moore (JR) will be the starting tailback and is an excellent slasher type runner with the ability to pick up the blitz. The offense is expected to be in the top 15 according to Coach Gundy and their team goals. Defense: The Cowboys defense is installing two new starting middle linebackers into their 3-4 scheme with (RS) Frosh Justin Gatewood & (RS) Junior Joel Williams. Gatewood is the muscle and brains while Joel is a physical phenom with an endless motor and unlimited potential. Upfront Soph Nose Tackle Andre Ferguson is replacing a former All-American and will need to play well in order to allow backers to fill their gaps. Long time back-up and nickel corner Pierre Booker is now the starting Corner and has finally tailored his athletic skills into one of the best unknown man-to-man cover corners in the nation according to Gundy. Opposite of Booker os True Freshman and stud recruit signing Jordan McCray who has shown he his going to be an elite corner for at least the next 3 years. At Free-Safety All-American Brian Smith returns for his Senior Season and is projected in Mel Kiper's Big Board for the 2018 NFL Draft. Strong Safety Terrence Brown moves back from Corner to safety and is excellent in space and an terrific tackler. He is elated to be in the back half of the secondary after providing much-needed help at corner the past two seasons. The defense is young, talented and quite fast. We expect the defense to be in the top 25 according to pre-season team-set goals. Special Teams: True Freshman Joel Peoples from DeSoto Texas will start. Joel is know at DeSoto for never missing a extra point or FG his entire High School Career. Punter Jared Magum is back at punter for jis Junior season. He keeps adding more power year after year.
