    Meet the Bruins:

    On O:

RS Jr Tavares Cook 99 overall finally gets his shot after being behind All American QB Jeff Banks for three seasons.
RS Soph Josh Williams 88 overall is his back up.

Senior RB Corey Dickens 94 overall will get his shot, he had one last season as well but was not able to stay healthy. He has great size and speed and can be a game breaker if he can stay on the field.

Issac Merrick is the back up 88 overall, he lost most of his freshman season to a broken arm as well.

Ferguson and Lynch are the FBs, both are Jrs and both are solid and will play.

Pierre Patton Sr TE 84 overall is a decent reciever but not much else and there is nothing behind him.

We will rely on Senior WRs 99 overall Demario Lambert and Gavin McRea. We also have super Soph 89 overall Brandon Collins. We have some speed and abilty at WR this year, this should be our best set ever at this position.

Our Oline is very solid, 96 jr / 94 jr / 93 jr / 91 so / 88 so, we wont go through names because who cares they are the oline. We have solid depth here as well.

Dline after losing our best DE to the pros at LDE in James -Pitts and Roach will split time at LDE and we will see who plays better they are both 88 overall.

Three SR 90+ DTs will rotate for us. We have nothing behind them so the young guys need to get in the wieght room this offseason and get better in a hurry.

RDE Jr Mark Drew a Juco will get his shot to start for us, he is 90 overall and should provide great pass rush and a motor that doesnt stop as well. His back ups are nothing special so we hope he can play.

OLBs: We lost two four year starters outside, MLB to OLB Bates will get the first look at ROLB he is only 82 overall as a Senior but has great physical talent and speed. James Motley on the other side is a beast at 91 overall soph...again nothing behind these two so we need to recruit hard at olb soon.

CBs: Lost our best cb to the draft, three Jr CBs lead the way with great speed Keller and Williams provide an excellent 1-2 punch outside after that it gets a bit sketchy with Juco Jr Fuller seeing his first playing time as a Bruin, then two young players round out our CB position.

S's: Beverly is a 99 overall FS with great talent but hasnt done much his first two years on the field in fact he has been invisable. We did bring in a Freshman FS in Sears who is a physical freak as well and he will see time at CB and in dime and qtr sets. Junior Nick Thompson will finally get to start and play this season and is 92 overall. He is backed up by Athletic Bo Young.

We lost our top Kicker to the pros, but this season our K & P are good enough.

With the way this roster is set up this is our best chance to make a run at the title, after this season our talent falls off with the loss of some big time senior players.

    QUARTERBACKS
    SO- Kevin Wilson (82ovr)
, JR- Brandon Abrams (75), FR- Nick Johnson (66), FR- Kris Bailey (72-RS)
---Wilson is a far cry from Daniel Sims. Wilson is an agile QB who has a solid arm but likely won't beat you with it just yet. He's slowly developing into a passer. Right now Rutgers is in a grind as to how this offense will go. With Wilson being more of a running QB and this team's roster currently being more of a passing oriented attack, it will be interesting to see if Wilson can come through. If not, look for JR-QB Abrams to get some playing time.

    RUNNING BACKS
    SR- Lonnie Lloyd (84ovr)
, JR- Matt Talley (73), FR- Martin Thomas (80), FR- Joe Manning (72), JR- Joe Key (71), FR- Ryan Drew (64-RS)
---Lloyd returns for his senior season and he's really the lone talented back here. Martin Thomas is a wildcard but he's built like a scat back but runs with power so we're not sure how that will translate. Lloyd will have to carry the load for now. Talley as the backup could change sooner than later because Talley really isn't a 3rd down back.

    FULLBACKS
    JR- Nick Byrd (72ovr)
    , SR- Eric Pittman (68)
---We haven't been using much of our FB's but they will play a more pivotal role this time around. Byrd has 91 impact blocking and we hope he can finally use that to our advantage as we switch to an offense that's more suited for both the QB and WR/TE's.

    WIDE RECEIVERS
SR- Lance Jones (84ovr), SR- Jon Burch (81)
, SR- Anthony Rogers (83), JR- Frank Ferguson (80), FR- Courtney McKinney (67), JR- Gerald Anderson (78-RS), FR- Mark Garner (73), FR- Roman Cox (64-RS)
---Most of the WR's return for another year. Lance Jones and Rogers switch so Rogers can be used more for his outstanding route running and acceleration which we feel is better in the slot. Lance Jones opens up as the impact player on our offense with the strides he's made this year. Jon Burch is the speedster who can open up the downfield passing game. We expect Ferguson to contribute some as he's in essence a Rogers clone in terms of ability. Anderson and Cox will redshirt and develop a bit more while Garner will fill in as the 5th and 6th WR's on the team.

    TIGHT ENDS
    SO- Travis Spencer (84ovr)
, SR- Eric Coleman (85), FR- Lorenzo Richardson (72-RS)
---It seems like yesterday that Eric Coleman was here but he's now a senior and the staff really wants to work him more into the gameplan. With the arrival of hotshot TE Travis Spencer, Coleman took a back seat and saw Spencer's star rise immediately. Both have been working well together and the staff has decided to work more 2TE sets into the offense in the hopes it can benefit the offense the most. Richardson is more of a blocking TE but kid is very physical for being 6'3", 228. He blocks well and breaks tackles like Spencer.

    OFFENSIVE LINE
    SR-LT Randy Herron (87ovr)
, SO- Ryan Phillips (86-RS), FR- Ryan Larson (80)
---This maybe the most talented crop of tackles we've had here at Rutgers. Herron excels in pass blocking in general but has been bringing along his skills in run blocking slowly to the point where his strength and footwork there are both 90's. Phillips was one of the top tackles of his class but in fear of injury we kept him active. With us bringing in another top tackle in Larson, we redshirted Phillips. We see both Phillips and Larson starting on opposite sides possibly.

    SR-LG Melvin Lewis (81ovr), SR-LG Paul West (80), FR-LG Chris Lane (66-RS)
---Lewis is one of the best in the country in terms of acceleration off the line. He's a premier pass blocking guard but isn't as polished in the run blocking scheme. If Lewis faulters, we have Paul West, who's more of the balanced type guard backing him up.

    JR-C Bill Bean (84ovr), SR-C Ricky White (79)
---Bean is the anchor of the line. He's not the most talented guy here but he's one of the hardest working. He's a quick kid which we love our olinemen to be. Ricky White is almost a Bill Bean clone in terms of talent.

SR-RG Lance Boyd (86ovr), SO- Brett Jacobs (66)
---Boyd was one of those TE's who coverted over to the offensive line in his HS years. He still maintains that 75 speed out there and it shows when he's coming around on his pulls. He's not strong but he does his work with his feet and athleticism.

JR-RT Brooks Archer (92ovr), JR- Lorne Heard (82), FR- Greg Maxey (66)
---Archer is one of the top tackles in the country. He's the captain on the offensive side and an absolute complete RT. He's a super smart kid who applies his knowledge to the field and in ways has become a coach out there on the field. An absolute charm to have gotten this kid here.

    DEFENSIVE LINE

    SR-LE Mario Parrish (83ovr)
    , FR-LE Michael Holt (74-RS), SO Matt Manning (70)
---Parrish has huge shoes filling in for Lee Franklin who was an absolute monster for his. Parrish is in the similar mold of a power end who uses his strength and acceleration to get past his man. It will be interesting to see if he can fill the void left by an all-american. Holt was compared to Dwight Freeney when we saw film on him...equally strong and has solid speed. He has a long way to go to harness his talent and see his future.

FR-RE Mark Ryan (79ovr), FR- Travis Penn (73), FR- Nate Johnson (72-RS), JR- Blake Jenkins (69)
---Ryan may have the most pressure to perform on this line as he just like Parrish, is replace a stud here at this spot. Ryan is a bit raw but we like what he can become. He's a bit on the small side which does concern us but he's shown he has some power behind his 225lb frame and can get to the QB, which made him a 4-star prospect. Travis Penn is a kid who's been in the program for a year and redshirted last year. He could become a starter for us down the road or be a nice change of pace type end for us.

JR-DT Jammal Ball (85ovr), JR- Rodney Dawson (83), FR- Ben Jacobs (74), SO- Eric Arnold (70)
---Ball and Dawson are a nice one two punch here at the DT spot. Ball is the smallish type DT who uses his leverage and size to get under the pads of his man and get around them. He's been a relentless kid on the field, and has been in the backfield often. Dawson is the stronger guy of the two and more of the guy who could play the NT in a 3-4 if we need to switch it up.

    LINEBACKERS

    SO-LOLB Kevin Thompson (79ovr)
    , SO-LOLB Shane Cotton (68)
---After coming into the program as a MLB, we moved Thompson outside to fill a need. He's certainly fast enough to play on the outside. We see tons of potential for Thompson who's 258lbs and is very strong. Shane Cotton is the do-it-all LB who will fill in at all the LB spots.

    FR-MLB Nelson Witherspoon (79ovr), FR-MLB Daniel Alfred (72), FR-MLB Fred Holt (42)
---Us moving Thompson to the outside was contingent on grabbing a few MLB's and we did that. Witherspoon is one of the studs we brought in. A bit on the small side, Witherspoon showed great speed (85) with strength (84) and hits hard (84). Alfred, the other freshman here on scholarship is a bit raw and we wish we could have redshirted him but we couldn't afford to not have a backup MLB just in case Witherspoon doesn't perform up to par.

    FR-ROLB Zach Scott (73ovr), FR-ROLB Aaron Fields (65-RS), FR-ROLB Ronnie Morris (65)
---Scott is another freshman starting (defense is very young), and has a lot of potential. Again we would have loved to redshirt him or Fields (the backup) but we couldn't do that. Scott like Witherspoon and Thompson display a nice combo of speed and strength. It's just a matter of learning on the fly with these freshman. Fields is wildly athletic and fast with 94 speed. He can tackle (76) but the other areas of his game need refinement.

    SECONDARY

    SR-CB Anthony Russell (80ovr), FR-CB Rob Scott (78)
    , SR-CB Brandon Riley (79), SO-CB Jack Wilson (67), FR-CB Thomas Hicks (67), FR-CB Sean Miller (64), FR-CB Nick Kelly (67-RS)
---Russell is the lone CB who had experience from the previous year having played in the dime packages. Russell is an exceptional man cover corner who won't bite on Play action, making him an ideal guy to take the opposing team's best WR. Starting the other spot is freshman Rob Scott. He's a bit small standing 5'9" but he's quick and fast. He has ton of potential to be one of our better CB's and we feel he's ready to step up for us. We love Riley as a nickel back to cover those slot WR's with his acceleration and overall ability. Along with Scott, we brought in Nick Kell and Thomas Hicks with Kelly the lone one sitting due to redshirt.

    JR-FS Wesley Owens (79ovr), JR-FS Troy Jackson (77), JR-FS Bryant Luke (72)
---Owens returns as a starter and he had a great year last year with 5 INT's, which was second on the team. He received all-american honors and we expect a similar year with his 2nd year as a starter. Troy Jackson was named the captain of the defense but he primarily plays special teams. Bryant Luke will redshirt.

    SR-SS Justin Atkins (90ovr), SR-SS Reggie Mitchell (78), FR-SS Brian Jones (78)
---This maybe one of our stronger positions with Justin Atkins, a preseason All-American returning. He started all 4 years as a Scarlet Knight and has steadily improved every year. He had 4 INT's last year and is constantly around the ball. The 6'3" SS is an elite talent who will definitely play on Sunday's. We decided to redshirt Brian Jones, one of our top talents that came in last year's recruiting class. We look forward to Jones becoming one of the top SS's in the nation in a few years.
