Utah Dominates Cal 56-7
Berkley, CA- Utah oblilterated the Cal football team on Saturday, thoroughly outclassing them 56-thanks mostly to a defense that refused to let the Cal offense move the ball.
Utah was successful all day moving the ball, the only hiccups came from 2 Lui Silva fumbles. Cal LB Dylan Smith picked one up and rumbled in from 28 yards out for Cal's only score on the day. Silva finished with 19 carries for 109 yards and no scores. But Matt Harris played well again throwing for 172 yards and 3 scores and running for 97 and another TD.
Leroy Jones was the main target all day hauling in 6 passes for 67 yards and 2 TD's. John Brown caught the other Harris TD and managed to catch 5 balls for 57 yards on the day. Utah totalled 442 yards of offense including 172 passing and 270 on the ground. The offense converted 7/8 3rd down opportunities and averaged nearly 7 yards per play.
The defense was suffocating all day long, and the Utes held Cal to 94 yards of offense. (-6) rushing and 100 yards passing. The defense forced 6 turnovers, 4 interceptions and 2 fumbles and sacked Cal's QB 5 times. Edwin Manning was the standout Saturday with 5 tackles 2 sacks and a forced fumble. Kenard Godfrey pulled in 2 interceptions, and managed to return both of them for scores.
