After starting off with the ball, the Buccaneers drove down field and started the game off with a field goal to put them on top 3-0. After receiving the ball, the Panthers quickly threw an interception to Dwayne Gratz. After driving down field about 15 yards, the Bucs had to settle for a field goal off of Gratz's interception. On the first play of the 2nd quarter, Curtis Wells throws his 2nd interception of the game to Lavonte Davis. Driving down to the 2 yard line, Dennis Cox throws a pass to Marshawn Burch for the TD, which puts them up 13-0. After trying to go deep to Marquez Phillip, Wells throws his 3rd int to Dillon Fitzpatrick. After slowly marching down field, the Bucs had to again settle for a field goal. After a failed drive by the Panthers, the Bucs got the ball back with little time. With Dennis Cox failing a bomb a couple of times, with 8 seconds left, Cox throws an int to Delano Cain in the end zone. Going into the half with a 16-0 lead, things are still looking pretty well for the Bucs.

Near the middle of the 3rd quarter the Panthers put an end the potential shut out with a field goal. On the 2nd play of the Buccaneers drive, Cox throws a pick 6 to Cain. Coach Luby (Jr.) is starting to sweat with now having a only 16-10 lead. Towards the end of the quarter, the Bucs drive down to score a field goal. At the beginning of the 4th, the Panthers score a touch down to cut the lead to 19-17. On the first play of the next drive, a failed bomb to Mike Evans turns into another Cain int. After a short drive, the Panthers took a 20-19 lead. After a couple of drives by both teams, the Panthers score another field goal. After a slow drive down field, the Bucs scored a rushing TD leaving the Panthers to only need a field goal to tie it up in 90 seconds. After some plays by the Panthers, Wells throws to Olsen to get to the 15, but a hard hit causes a fumble with 7 seconds left. Ellis French picks up the fumble and Cox kneels the game out, and the Bucs hold on to the 26-23 lead.
