I did a test in an offline league to see what actually happens. Im not "trolling". Heres the results. Took 10 minutes of my time, will clear all false beliefs. This guy is a minor league player i brought up during spring training. He was never in the ML at any point, and made his first appearance with the team in ST this season. I simulated through all of the ST games, he kept his Minor league contract. I left him on the team until opening day, and demoted him AFTER season predictions. I advanced a day, it says he has a major league contract. Then i went back and demoted him to the minors after the last game of spring training, BEFORE Season predictions. I should have taken a picture of the contact page but whatever just believe he has a Minors contract, the date was as of the last ST game. He is now in AAA. Final picture here, i advanced the game to opening day while the player was in the minors AND still on the 40man. As of April 1st, he had a Minors contract. After advancing one day, as shown in one of the previous pictures, his contract became a 480k. There you go. For anyone that believes that ending the sim 1 day before Spring training will prevent their player from receiving a MLC, that is not the truth. At the start of every season, whoever is on the 40 man roster receives a MLC regardless of ML Service time.
I didnt miss any point and im not trolling. The topic was asked about MLC and if the reason they were getting 490k contracts was because of the 1 day of ML Service time they receive by being on the roster on opening day. There were MULTIPLE people who believed demoting before the season started would fix that. I tested it and proved your point. The only insight youve offered in this is "anyone on the 40 man gets a contract". You were right, but you didnt explain yourself or provide any grounds. Therefore, i believe not many people believed you. I tried to clear up the whole argument. That is not trolling nor missing the point.
Thanks Brandon S. Looks like regardless if the date is stopped 1 day before ST is over or opening day, the result will be the same if they are on the 40-man roster. They will end up getting a MLC and an option used. The only way to remove the MLC is to Waive/DFA them off the 40-man roster. Am I getting that right?
Yes. Whoever is on the 40 man roster at the beginning of a season will receive a MLC regardless of ML Service time. The only way to remove someone from the 40 man is to waive/ DFA them.
Brandon S. I wasnt trying to be a dick, but this is exactly what I was trying to say to you last night in Skype. Again though, I do appreciate the effort to help get the matter cleared up.
The Dugout Slight update here due to recent events. Due to a hiccup with Arizona's file, his players were given an "extended" protection from the Rule 5 due to past precedent. As such, despite my previous post, due to past precedent Detroits two players (CL Dustin Wheeler (Currently on the Phillies) and LF Eric Dotson (currently on the Brewers)) will also be protected and moved back to Detroit. These players were on the DL (in which it doesnt show you that the player is Rule 5 eligible unless you physically check their status page). Because of the confusion, and the fact that we do in game lists now, we're going to be changing the way we do the Rule 5 sims in the future. We will no longer be doing two sims for this. We will be protecting and making lists all in the same sim. While this may cause you to spend more time making a list, it eliminates the need to go back and reprotect and also eliminates an unneeded day in the offseason. From now on there will be no exceptions granted to players that dont get protected for whatever reason. I'll be sure to shoot a reminder out to this fact in the 2028 offseason. That is all, enjoy tonights sim!
For the phillies and Milwaukee, how will that work for rule five? Are they just out there pick? I know Mas was really excited about Wheeler pitching in June or will they be compensated some how? As the number one pick for rule five I think had he known mas would have grabbed someone else. Lol Milwaukee got like 10 dudes in rule five so I don't think as bad for him but just wondering if something is being done for them.
Not really much we can do at this point. It is what it is, hence the change in the way we're doing it for future offseasons.
That's nice and all unless the loss of this closer keeps Masler from participating in the next rule 5 draft.*
I feel bad for masler but can't really do anything about it now. It was a rule V reliever who was going to play half a season and be worth maybe .5 a win, in the long run it won't make a difference but I still think it sucks because he really liked him.
File up.. Welcome OMlawdog to the AL W(B)est Tomorrow: #6: Sim until Pre-Season begins (early Feb). Edit Schedule.
My game crashed, so I have to try again. Going to be a little later than normal tonight, sorry fellas. Hopefully it's up by 3 AM knowing my internet
