Recap last years team? Did you over-achieve or under-achieve?

The Giants were over-achieved by a large margin last season. After spending most of the year mired in mediocrity, the team came together early in August to finish with a 91-71 record and end up in one of the wildcard spots. Once in the playoffs, the team won a series of close, low scoring games based on strong defense and taking risk on the basepaths. This led to the Giants' second World Series appearance, where the team eventually lost to Tampa.

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys?

The main loss will be CF Reyes. Reyes was great at the top of the lineup and played Gold Glove level defense. Also, the contracts on SP Ramiro Aguirre and SP Jared Cosart were not extended. Both had been stalwarts for the Giants over the past 5+ years. Cosart won 104 games for the Giants, but the injury bug hit last season and management was worried about extending a 37 year old with tons of innings and injury problems. Aguirre won 85 games in 7 1/2 seasons, including winning 18 in 2026 and 17 in 2023. He was still pitching well, but regressing quickly. Aguirre was recently picked up by Oakland.

The dealing of Reyes brought in 2 new players from the Indians. SP Mike Davis is penciled in as the #2 starter this year. 3B Julio Arroyo will be batting at the top of the lineup. He is a high OBP guy with some wheels. The only other newcomer is rookie CF Morris. Morris is a left-handed power hitter. However, he's a liability in the field.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?

We won't know if these changes will help or hurt until the season starts. The team overachieved last year, but could easily revert to the mean this season.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?

CF Morris is the only rookie on the team right now. He probably won't play often enough to make much of a difference, unless there are injuries.

    League Questions:

Arizona is a good bet to make it this season.

    1. San Fran
    2. Arizona
    3. LA
    4. San Diego
    5. Colorado

Best Hitter and Pitcher in the division?

    Hitter - Scotty Clay SD
    Pitcher - Carter Hamilton SD

With this being the first year of possible demotion on records, Which GM on the hotseat (BOS,COL,DET,PHI) has the best chance to retain their job?

Boston came the closest last season, but they play in the toughest division in the league. I think Detroit probably has the best chance to retain their job, given their division and their incremental improvement over the past couple seasons. Also, fmode made some deals in the offseason that should help the team win.

Everybody thought that we made a huge mistake in moving Avila in the preseason. Maehle took a while to get going, but ended up pitching well late in the year. We ended up being better than most expected I think. Most thought that the new management would blow it, but insane years by Owen Bourns and Tim Rivers carried us to a division championship.

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys?
No major moves, but we did make a couple trades, bringing in John Brown to catch and Masayoshi Kawamura to DH vs righties. The rotation is similar, although Pancho Marquez was moved to get John Brown. William Jackson was expected to take over the 5th starter role, but an insane spring by Brian Hamm, who was expected to be sent down to keep his arbitration clock from starting, got him the 5th spot. Matty Martin was brought in through FA to help shore up the bullpen, as was Amghar Chesire, who will also be a spot starter along with William Jackson.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?
We feel like our offense will be highly improved. Catcher was a major weakness and Brown should improve, even after a subpar season last year in San Diego. Masayoshi is an improvement at DH. I have far more confidence in the bullpen this yaer with Martin there as well.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?
Brian Hamm looks like this year's impact prospect for us. Talent wise, he is almost on par with Owen Bourns. For guys not on the roster, Orlando Ortega has been improving rapidly and has a shot at making the team eventually this season, a year ahead of schedule.

    League Questions:

With new playoff teams making it every year, who do you feel will be a surprise team in your league and make a playoff appearance who did not make it in 2027?
Boston avoids relegation and makes it in as a wild card.

Predict the finish for the teams in your division?
    Chicago
    St. Louis
    Pittsburgh
    Cincy
    Milwaukee

Best Hitter and Pitcher in the division?
Best hitter goes to Larry Arrington in Cincy. Guy is still improving a bit and has surpassed Tim Rivers.
Pitcher has to go to Owen Bourns. Dude is still young and won the Cy Young last year in dominating fashion.

With this being the first year of possible demotion on records, Which GM on the hotseat (BOS,COL,DET,PHI) has the best chance to retain their job?
Boston has the best chance to retain. I don't have much faith in Colorado to improve.

Pick your World Series (or NPBL Cup) Winner and why?
WS winner goes to the Braves, and Teheran finally gets that ring.

    Los Angeles Angels

Recap last years team? Did you over-achieve or under-achieve?
The Angels endured an up and down season, ultimately showing marked improvement posting a .537 winning percentage and wild card birth. After defeating a tough Baltimore team, the Angels succumbed to the eventual WS Champion Tampa Bay Rays.

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys? The Angels front office was as busy as ever, making a number of moves. While acquiring some incredible specs like Joe Dale, Juan Valdes, and John Preston, the team parted ways with key components like Moon-Soo Kim and Dale Chatworth. Chatworth will be replaced by rule 5 pick David Spencer, while Moon-Soo Kim will make way for Jose 'Tap' Leon, the latter of which is a clear upgrade.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year? Overall, my team is about as good. I had good progression out of my young players, but I've lost some key pieces. I'm hoping to hold out until my spec arms are ready to assume roles in the rotation, which should happen this season at some point.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year? Rookie SS Chris Walls makes his much anticipated debut - he could do wonders for the lineup and defense.

With new playoff teams making it every year, who do you feel will be a surprise team in your league and make a playoff appearance who did not make it in 2027? Twinkies

How competitive do you think your division is? AL West is pretty average. Texas looks to have strengthened themselves a bit, Houston is always tough, LA is emerging, and Oakland has a new manager.

Predict the finish for the teams in your division? 1. LA 2. Houston 3. Seattle 4. Texas 5. Oakland

Best Hitter and Pitcher in the division? SP Larry Langely (LAA) and CF Leo Kingwell (HOU)

I'm going to say Fmode11 here, mostly because of JFace907 :p

We horribly under-achieved. We came in as a team that had playoff aspirations and it all blew up in our face. It all started really when Adrian Price just could not find his near MVP form that he carried though three-quarters of the previous season. The injury he suffered really crushed him. It also did not help that Wall, Olvera, and Leon all regressed to the mean. All three had never produced like they did in ’26 and certainly were not up for repeating their success. The pitching staff was about what we expected, but the lack of runs seemed to really weigh on the staff.

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys?
In the FO we decided that some salary had to be shed. There was just a lot of dead money on the books. Flea Arroyo was a huge disappointment, Jose Costa just could not convince Mr. Dolan that he was worth opening the checkbook for, and fan favorite Mike Davis did not want his contracts decided by the courts as it was obvious Mr. Dolan wasn’t going to open up his checkbook for him either. All of those men are gone and in come a bunch of kids (including the return of homegrown Elijah Reyes) that are expected to re-load the farm and compete in a matter of a couple seasons. Reyes, however is expected to be the opening day Center Fielder. A couple 5ish million dollar 1 year deals got the ok from Mr. Dolan, but no one from that list is expected to make a big impact.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?
We should compete. This team is one that will not lay down for anyone. All of these kids have pay days to play for and we expect to get their all. We also did a better job of suring up the team defensively. We always had a nice outfield unit, but we should be solid in the infield now as well.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?
We’re looking for Ron Parsons to reign in his control a bit. We were in danger of losing him in Rule 5 so we purchased his contract from Akron and put him on the 40 man roster to avoid that from happening. With that we also let him go to Goodyear and join the Spring Training rotation. Unfortunately that didn’t go so well (due to his lack of control). He sures that up and he could be on the big squad and make a nice impact. Also look for CF Tony Glaser to get the call if Frisky runs into any injury trouble.

With new playoff teams making it every year, who do you feel will be a surprise team in your league and make a playoff appearance who did not make it in 2027?
I think we honestly might be at a point where the teams that made the playoffs will run the show for a bit in the AL. The Rays, White Sox, and Angels are all great. The NL doesn’t look that obvious. It always seems like the NL East likes to play musical chairs with its playoff bid (sometimes sending 2 in). I’m gonna go crazy and predict a worst to first type turnaround for Miami. Ok, maybe not first, but WC is possible.

Predict the finish for the teams in your division?
    1. White Sox
    2. Twins
    3. Indians
    4. Tigers
    5. Royals

Best Hitter and Pitcher in the division?
SOS (and I don’t mean help) in the Central. No need repeating.

With this being the first year of possible demotion on records, Which GM on the hotseat (BOS,COL,DET,PHI) has the best chance to retain their job?
Boston. At least in theory they should. They made it rain all over the free agents. Pac Man Jones was proud of the Red Sox GM

Pick your World Series (or NPBL Cup) Winner and why?
White Sox. For as good as Tampa is, not sure they can do it again.

-After receiving an email from Earvin Johnson each year about him expecting us to go .500 and then going on to win the division, I would say we over achieved. Since we did that we received an email from Mr. Johnson this year saying we should win the championship. That means we will probably under achieve and piss him off.

-The year was a dozy. Endacott went down once again and I pretty much thought our pitching staff was donezo but they prevailed. A last minute trade with I Peench landed us Eric 'Dodo' Boyer and James Calicu which helped down the stretched. In the long run it caught up with and we were forced to go home early.

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys?
-We did not do anything big and pretty much picked up another DH and depth. Bud Gardner, and Dae-Yun Park were two guys that we let ride due to injury concerns. Dae-Yun Park is in his mid 30s and Gardner just reached 31 and we got lucky last year the neither missed substantial time.

-OF/DH Pedro Serna was a desperation signing. He was coming off a broken elbow so we took the gamble and brought him to LA. He will primarily be our DH and only on occasion will he take the field. His bat can seriously do some damage and stengthens the middle of our lineup.

-Middle INF Mario Perez was signed for two reasons. 1) He stays healthy and 2) we finally found someone that can play multiple positions in the infield. For awhile we only had infielders that could play only 2B or SS or 3B so Perez will be our utility guy.

-Lastly we brought back OF Carlos Gonzalez. Again with no OFs in our farm system ready we reached out and snagged him back to Tinsel Town. Straight HRs is what he will and we expect nothing more.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?
-Adding depth to the INF and bringing a power bat should help us keep in the pennant race this year.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?
-SP Ken Jones looks to do even more and be a standout. Last year he went 14-9 with a 4.20 ERA, striking out 155, walking only 56 batters, and a 1.28 WHIP.

    - Fmode11 made a lot moves in the offseason and last year so he maybe the only one that makes it this year.

    - Tampa because of David Taylor

We were bad at times and good some times, I think we under-achieved as we should have been about a .500 club.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?
We brought back Darien Martin to play CF, not knowing who would play CF for us and our platoon bat against lefties. Ethan Hall showed some life still in his career and resigned him to a nice 2 year deal, along with Juan Escalante. Not wanting Leroy to walk without getting anything in returned, we decided to sign him to a nice price that could hopefully gives us a young prospect or two in a trade.

Losing Felix Sterling's production was big but at his price line for his age was a no go. Picking up Ricardo Gonzalez to hopefully gives us something good in the pen and if not a stay in AAA won't be too bad. Trading away a decent but regressing catcher in Ken Mortenson brought us a young arm in James, a solid prospect in Bishop and Roy Lewis a nice plug and play 3B that lacks some glove but should bring some production like Ethan Hall did. Bruce Parker was going to be heavily leaned on and let him battle through his struggles at the plate to play CF but the last deal was signing Tanabe aka Short Circuit in FA to be our full time CF, who is excellent in the field and might not put the bat on the ball that often but hopefully will work counts and have a high OBP.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?
OF Anthony Wagner will start in RF and hopefully bring another bat to the lineup and add some more runs or run production with Buddy Weeks and Bryce Harper protecting him.
We have 3 SP in Jose Hernandez, Ezra Simmons and Didier Larcher waiting in the wings of AAA.
Another OF in Vern Gates in AAA.
5th picks, SS Robbie "Guns" Paul is in Potomac (A) if he develops and hits AA by June and has enough numbers to warrant a call up in August/September depending our positioning, we could see him in DC.

Arizona, Miami, Milwaukee, Washington could all get into the playoffs. The more surprising of the 4, Miami and Washington.

There are a few hitters that you could insert here but lets go with C Jose Garcia (Mets)

I'll put it in order instead:
    Detroit

    Philadelphia
    Colorado

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys?

Traded for SP Jack Hale and got some solid Rule 5 guys. We got 1B Pat Johnson from Tampa Bay, 2B Rich Hall from San Francisco, and LF Jason Flint from Oakland. Was very surprised to get all 3 of them as I felt that they all had put up great numbers in the minors and were among the best ready for the MLB jump. Johnson had a 6.2 WAR in AAA with 39 HRs and a 1.023 OPS. Hall had a WAR of 4.1 in AAA with some great defense and 63 SBs. Flint meanwhile was a 5 tool star in AA posting a 6.5 WAR with 31 HRs, .948 OPS, and 35 SBs. Then we made a trade for SP Kenny Allen during Spring Training.

Don't think I lost anyone outside of the guys I traded and there was only 1 current MLB player that is an MR.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?

I think we improved our rotation with 2 SPs and added some quality bats that all play great defense. The injury to Hale in Spring Training hurts, but if we can stay in contention, then he should return in July and hopefully contribute for the final stretch. And even without him, I think we're still improved from the team that went .500 after the all star break last year.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?

I think Pat Johnson is a guy that will stand out. For him to put up the type of numbers he did in AAA and then get the opportunity to come and play in Coors, I think he's in a great situation for himself.

    League Questions:

None of us will reach .500, so I don't think anyone has the best the chance.

The Rays are the obvious pick, but that's not fun. I say Timpe breaks the AL streak and the Braves win it all.

I feel like our team played right around our potential. Some players like Brito played beyond my expectaiong (6.0 WAR) while othere like Hultzen, who began dying a slow-death, and Romo underperformed. I was happy to make the playoffs and win the West again. Unfortunately, I ran into soxandgators once again in the playoffs and went out quietly.

Pretty quiet offseason in Houston. Added mostly bullpen pieces after letting 3 of them walk to begin the offseason. My biggest goal this season was locking up Kingwell to a long term deal, ended up buying out 3 FA years when he signed the 6 year/81M deal.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?

Overall, the team is very similar to last year. The biggest addition was Vazquez into the bullpen because this team needed another strong LH option out of the pen to go with William Pate.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?

LF Domingo Reyes, got a cup of coffe with 23 games last year but he continues to improve. His 70con/80gap/80/pow vs RHP should translate into a good season for the big league club. On the pitching side, I really like SP Jorge Pena, who spent the season last year in the bigs but struggles in his first year. He's added 5 stuff again this offseason and I'm hoping he can break out.

    League Questions:

I think Minnesota makes it into the playoffs this year, good manager and weak division outside of CHA.

Recap last years team? Did you over-achieve or under-achieve?

Under-achieved. I thought we had a championship caliber team last year, so not making the World Series was a disappointment. Injuries definitely played a role, but I thought we had the depth to make it still.

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys?

SP John Mitchell was supposed to come in and help solidify our rotation, but he got injured in the first week of the season and won't be available. Some minor additions include SS Elvis Andrus and SS Bubba Hughes who will likely platoon, and CF Howard Strickland.

The loss of 2B Reuben Perez and CF Tommy Morris will both hurt a lot, but I think we have very capable replacements in Camacho and Strickland so hopefully they can fill the void.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?

Overall I think we'll be right around where we were last year. I'm expecting another NL East title and to at least make the NLCS. I'm not sure we have the horses to make it to the World Series this year.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?

SP Wilbur Boyd will begin the year in the bullpen, but might make it to the rotation around the all star break if all goes well. Other than that, the farm is pretty bare. DH Pete White flew under the radar a bit last year between Arizona and Atlanta, and could be a big impact player for us.

    League Questions:

With new playoff teams making it every year, who do you feel will be a surprise team in your league and make a playoff appearance who did not make it in 2027?

I really like what the Mariners have done, and think they could make a push this year.

Predict the finish for the teams in your division?

    Atlanta
    New York
    Philly
    Washington
    Miami

Best Hitter and Pitcher in the division?

Hitter: Jose Garcia (NYM) - He is probably the best all around player in the National League.
Pitcher: Roberto Gabriel (PHI) - I think he'll have a solid year and help the Phillies make the push for .500. It pains me not to have Teheran be the shoe-in for this honor anymore :(

With this being the first year of possible demotion on records, Which GM on the hotseat (BOS,COL,DET,PHI) has the best chance to retain their job?

I thikn the Tigers and Rockies have the best chance. The Red Sox are in a really tough division, but will be close still. The Phillies had a decent chance, but recent injuries are going to make it an uphill battle.

Pick your World Series (or NPBL Cup) Winner and why?

I think the White Sox return to greatness this year. There's still a lot of talent out there.

Recap last years team? Did you over-achieve or under-achieve?
We underachieved. It took awhile for us to figure out the rotation and for Saldina/Shipke to really stabilize everything. I doubt figuring it out earlier wins the division anyway because the Rays were awesome, but the team deserved better than a WC round exit.

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys?
We added literally no one. Not a single FA. We lost Pedro Alvarez who we wanted to keep, but his price got to a point that we didn't think was worth it anymore.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?
Very little. The pieces we lost were minor, and full seasons of Saldina and Shipke should more than make up for their losses. We feel like we are a 95 win team this year.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?
Most of my players are fairly well established, so I don't know about a breakout candidate. I guess Takeuchi is a candidate if you didnt notice his 1.100 OPS last year. The biggest prospect knocking on the door is SP Jim Smith, but there will likely need to be a trade to make space for him. (Hint hint, who wants an elite 6 WAR SP?) SP Pablo Gonzalez also has a chance to see action this year.

    League Questions:

With new playoff teams making it every year, who do you feel will be a surprise team in your league and make a playoff appearance who did not make it in 2027?
I think the Twins may be able to take a WC spot, but if I was forced to pick, the same 5 as last year would be my picks to get back this year.

Best Hitter and Pitcher in the division?
    Hitter: 1B Dave Harris
    Pitcher: David Taylor (duh)

With this being the first year of possible demotion on records, Which GM on the hotseat (BOS,COL,DET,PHI) has the best chance to retain their job?
Probably Detroit, but he'd have a much better chance of getting there if he had made anything resembling good decisions with Detroit's top prospects. They probably added about 3-4 wins with 3 top 40 prospects which is probably about 6-7 too few. Any attempt to shop those players probably gets him into a position with a much better chance to get there.

    Detroit: 50%
    Colorado: 35%
    Boston: 30%
    Philly: 10%

Pick your World Series (or NPBL Cup) Winner and why?
Tampa. Because lol at stealing games against David Taylor when he goes 3 times in a 7 game set.

We underachieved, but around .500 was what I think our ceiling was. We played a ton of rookies regularly. Ron Burke led the way behind the plate, started 2 rookie SP in Horace O'Toole and Sleepy Vaszquez, LH Hal Hoffman, and 2B Mike Bungay.

The bullpen sucked balls, and our defense really let us down. This staff is a ground ball pitching staff and requires solid infield play, and the Sanchez/Bungay middle combo underperformed. The front office REALLY didn't like Roy Lewis playing the hot corner either, and hence why he is no longer with the organization.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?
The biggest moves were probably the late trade for C Ken Mortenson with Washington and the FA signing of LF Greg Jordan.

Mortenson, we hope, will solidify the C spot. Burke kills baseballs, but his - WAR last season just won't cut it. We expect to contend for the division year over year and that shit has to stop. Jordan comes in to help defensively as a similar offensive focus as Hal Hoffman, but with a better glove.

MR Peyton Davies comes in with hopes of bolstering the bullpen.

The Rule 5 picks were simple random rolls of the dice. Scott looks to be the most likely to make an impact.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?
We think 2B Tom Smith is going to breakout. If he can perform like we think he can, he's going to be the infield version of Jason Parrish, but with slightly more pop and less contact. He should contest for ROY.
Devin "Quasimodo" Burke is also a potential breakout candidate, depending on how much he's going to play in the bigs. He had a solid spring and due to Wyatt Scott's injury, he's going to have extended playing time at 1B.

I'm going to have to roll either Washington, Arizona, or maybe Kansas City

Best Hitter and Pitcher in the division?
Hitter - toss up in my opinion... Historically, it's either Santiago Martinez, Tim Rivers, or Jason Parrish, but I like the future of Johnny Dionne in STL.
Pitcher - David Bush... It's amazing with his control, that he's been given a lucky draw with that BABIP... So I've talked myself out of it, and point to Maehle in Chicago. 3 +++ pitches will eventually come to fruition.

With this being the first year of possible demotion on records, Which GM on the hotseat (BOS,COL,DET,PHI) has the best chance to retain their job?
I think Boston. And there's no secret we are rooting HARD for Detroit to shit the bed... We've had our eyes on running that organization for over a decade.

Pick your World Series (or NPBL Cup) Winner and why?
Chicago White Sox over Arizona (who knows out of the NL...)
    Also, fuck the AL.

Recap last years team? Did you over-achieve or under-achieve?
    • Last year, for my personal expectations we vastly under-achieved, especially after bringing over Clay and Gonzales.

Tell us a little about what changes happened in the offseason for your team? Who is gone and who are some of the new guys?
    • Honestly, nothing major. Getting rid of Browns contract was the biggest thing we did in FA as we completely struck out in FA.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?
    • They should keep us from losing money again as we struggle through our first sub .500 season in 4 years.

Whose a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?
    • 2B Wes Robertson is about the biggest impact player I have in terms of young guys. CL Eddie Hicks has definitely left something to be desired in his first shot at the closer role.

    • Best Hitter: 1B Scotty Clay
    • Best Pitcher: SP Eric Boyer (although Carig will be when he fully develops, still has quite a way to go though).

With this being the first year of possible demotion on records, Which GM on the hotseat (BOS, COL, DET, PHI) has the best chance to retain their job?
    • Boston. Detroits saving grace might be that he doesnt have to actually hit .500.

Pick your World Series (or NPBL Cup) Winner and why?
    • Tampa Bay - That team is just too good right now.

How do you think these changes should affect you this year?

Gaining Fernandez would have provided major offense if he didn't end up killing himself in spring training. Overall once the ST injuries heal I think we have a good chance of pushing for .500.

Who's*** a breakout candidate for your team? Any impact prospects coming in this year?

OF Mike Thompson and OF Ed Anderson should be great while SP Roberto Gabriel is going to be a major upgrade to the rotation. Not sure about impact prospects as I traded most of them away that were ML ready. I did recently bring up SP Mike Ward and C Phil Gill, we'll see how they do.

Fuck all of you for siding with Detroit. I think Boston has the best chance.

Tampa Bay. Just look at them
