One of the busiest trade deadlines we have ever seen in The Dugout's history has come and gone. It was a very slow day up until about 4:00 Eastern time and then things started to get heavy. We saw a flurry of trades come in as we counted the clock down and then one came across the commish's desk late and was approved. Value high flying, multiple team trade negotiations took place, failed trades, and emotions running high. So lets dig into the day by hitting on each trade with a note and then hopefully hash out the "winners and losers" for the lack of a better term. ================================ Orioles send: CF Roberto Villa, 3*/3*, MLB, 29 years old Indians send: 2B Dan Warren, 1*/2*, S A, 22 years old SP Chris Hopper, .5*/.5*, S A, 21 years old CL Anthony Anderson, .5*/.5*, S A, 21 years old 1B Brett Logan, 1*/1*, S A, 22 years old Cleveland buys? A solid OF in Villa who can play a little bit of defense and the O's receive some prospects that have some way to go. Warren and Logan are the two that could develop and give you some production in the big leagues. ================================ Orioles send: SP Jesus Fernandez, 1.5*/1.5*, AAA, 24 years old Tampa sends: MR Shawn 'Reverend' Fitzgerald, 1.5*/1.5*, MLB, 32 years old Raj makes a deal to get some bullpen help from rival Tampa Bay while they give up a SP who could develop into a solid #3. ================================ Cubs Send: 3B Juan Ramos, 28 yo, 1/1 AAA Rays Send: C Arthur Cromartie, 23 yo, 1/1 SA Rays grab a defensive 3rd baseman and the Cubs receive a prospect to have some depth at catcher. ================================ Cubs Send: 1B Tim Rivers 2.5/2.5 MLB (Will be DFAed) $1 million in cash Rangers Send: 2B Luis Vasquez 1/1.5 SA MR Cisco Avila .5/2 Rookie The Cubs found a suitor to rid themselves of Tim Rivers as the Rangers send back two prospects that have a ways to go but could vie for some playing time if they reach their potential. Tim will give them some stability against left handed pitchers and upgrade their platoon player. ================================ Oakland A's send: MR Charlie Ralston MLB, 29 Years, 1/1, 1.6M Washington Nationals send: MR Júlio López, AAA, 29 Years, .5/.5, 950K These two teams flip flop relievers for a change of scenery, hoping they can revitalize their careers. ================================ Padres Send SP Horace Youngs, MLB, 4*/4.5*, 27 Years Old, $480k MR Fabien Cloarec, MLB, .5*/.5*, 25 Years Old, $480k Nationals Send SS George Pagan, AA, 1.5*/4.5*, 24 Years Old CF Manuel Ledezema, INT, 1*/4*, 17 Years Old With most of their pitching talent in the minors and under 23, the Padres saw an opportunity to grab Pagan, who grades out better as a 3rd baseman. They also wanted to add Justin Armstrong to their minor league bullpen depth but the Nationals were reluctant to send him away and decided to send Ledezema instead grabbing Youngs and Cloarec to help solidify the rotation and bullpen more. ================================ White Sox send SS Stuart Brown, 22 years old, 3.5/5 Rockies send SP Alberto Torres, .5/4.5, 23 years old, AA CL Alberto Villa, .5/2.5, 17 years old, A RF Howard Hallomore, 1/1, 23 years old, AAA 1B Claude Hayes, 1/1, 24 years old, AAA Restocking the system for the White Sox as they make another deal in which they strike for Torres. I wasn't really in love with this deal for the Rockies, but it makes some sense. ================================ Astros send: SS Adrian Esquivel | 1/4 * | 22yrs | MLC Dodgers send: 1B Gulbert Cavellero | 4.5/4.5 | 31 | 19M Astros add a bat, but is it too late for them and I believe Cavellero is due for an extension this coming offseason. This continues the trend of the Stros shipping of a prospect they have in their system. ================================ Rockies send: P Bob Lewis (MLB) P Blake Porter(MLB) Oakland Sends: P Santiago Hernandez (AAA) INF Dave Johnston (A) P Stanley Arnette(A) I like this deal for Oakland, as they get rid of the risks in Hernandez and Johnston and get Bob Lewis who has some good value in himself along with stuff Porter who needs to harness his control. Now if the two prospects reach their fulfillment, Rockies in turn win this puppy. ================================ Rays trade: SP Takechi Ogawa Indians trade: CF Ronnie Jeffries (SA) MR Pedro Ornelas (AAA) Tampa continued the sell of their players, and the Indians were buyers again. Ogawa will help CK in the rotation some while the Rays get some BP help and a young OF. ================================ Royals send: SS Winston Allen, 1*/1*, MLB, 27 years old Rays send: 2B Carlos Saldana, 1.5*/1.5*, MLB, 25 years old I look at this as a change of scenery type deal and an upgrade in fielding for one of these teams. ================================ Cubs Send: RF Richie Francis 1.5/3 AAA SP Jim Watkins .5/2 R SF Sends: SP Donald St George .5/3 SA The ol what have you done for me lately, Richie Francis? A once top 100 spec now gets shipped off to San Fran for St. George a power arm who needs to add some stamina but won't be counted on for a few years. ================================ LAA sends: SP Angel "Country Boy" Ybarra (to CHI) | AA (Arkansas) | MLC | .5*/4.5* LF David Wright (to CHI) | Rookie Ball (Tempe) | MLC | .5*/4.5* CF Bartolo Saldana (to CHI) | AA (Arkansas) | MLC | .5*/3.5* SP Worneh al-Sanussi (to CHI) | Rookie ball (Orem) | MLC |.5*/3.5* C Will Love (to CHI) | Rookie ball (Tempe) | MLC | .5*/3* 3 million cash (to MIA) CHI sends: SP Marcus "Spooks" Romero (to LAA) | MLB| $14 million | 5*/5* SP Randall Walker (to MIA) | MLB | $11 million | 3.5*/3.5* MIA sends: SP Reginald Potniu (to CHI) | A (Greensboro) | .5*/4.5* Well, well, well... The two finally did it as Miami was the third wheel. Angels finally reached a deal with Chicago in order for them to get Romero, while Miami received solid veteran Walker who will be coming off a biceps injury. The White Sox receive 3 nice pieces from LAA in Ybarra, Wright and Saldana and then they get Potniu from Miami. Chicago obviously makes out like a bandit, LAA gets a top 5 pitcher in Dugout history, arguably 1/2 with Taylor, and Miami takes on Walker. ================================ Winners: Baltimore, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago White Sox, Washington, Oakland, Cleveland, San Diego, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas, Tampa Bay, Houston (NYY deal) ================================ Didn't Really Do Anything (meh): Chicago Cubs, Kansas City, Miami, New York Yankees, Detroit ================================ Losers: San Francisco, Colorado, Houston (LAD deal) I Peench abolishthefed ZCar352 ryalaman Roggie Dru50 redwings8831 ty5oke soxandgators KnightNoles HAL9100 JFace907 sawemoff HarkTheSound
I guess standing pat at the deadline wasn't a bad thing, got two big races left, well 3 if still count the NL East. Yankees and Texas only separated by two games for the final AL wild card slot. Nationals, Cardinals and Giants and Marlins scrapping for two wild card slots in the NL.
