    4th down question

In my last game the score was 28-21 I was up and driving. I just reached what would seem to be field goal range when on 3rd down Welker dropped a pass across the middle bringing up 4th and 5. Now I'm thinking I should have went for it to keep the drive alive especially since the wind was in my face but I kept it sim and attempted the field goal which I missed. For future situations like this can I go for it on 4th down in the 4th quarter with the lead.

The Pats would go for it on 4th and 20 from their own 20 while being up 59-0.

only because i asked the very same question, the rule is when your not losing you can only go for it on the opponents side of the 50 with less than one yard to go. i also lost a game because it was 4 and 2 on the 39 and i missed it. i even challenged the spot to try and move it to 4 and 1 but the refs said no.

they make the rules how they are because it only takes a couple ppl to ruin the whole league for everyone and because of that they tend to be proactive with the rules.

I agree. If we changed it to, say, you can go for it on 4th and 5 inside the 40....then in 2 weeks we'd have people asking "Well why can't I go for it from 4thand 6 on the 43?" an such. I think not bending this rule is the best.

Our offensive output as a league is already HUGE....way over what the NFL does.

And if you have that 4th and 2 or 3 from the 40ish yard line, why not PUNT and pin the other guy deep? This is a skill, and part that I think is underused. If you trust your defense you should be pinning the guy deep and 'knowing' you will get the ball back in great field position when your defense gets a stop.

HA nobody punts anymore dunlap. I trust my D but i dont trust the punter to get me more than a 18 yrd net punt. BUT rules are rules for a reason.

So you are saying you'd rather try a 56yard field goal when you are ahead than punt and pin your guy inside the 10? Doesn't make any sense unless you REALLY don't trust your D and REALLY trust your FG kicker.

Rememer if you miss (easily more than 50% of the time) your opponent gets the ball at the 46! That's around a 35 yard field position swing you just handed them.

    Coffin corner son. . . :)

I'd probably punt in that situation too. I don't trust my defense or my kicker to make that FG

That last game i played, dude kicked a 61 yard field goal and it blew my mind. I try 50 yarders and hit it full-go and miss it by 2 yards but yet this dude blast threw a 61 yarder, i still won the game but i was speechless...

In TMFL as the raiders all i have to do is get to the opp 46(in good conditions obviously) to Kick a FG...having a K with a monster leg really is a added bonus as it turns a normal punting situation into 3 points..

its true, if you put the trajectory all the way down and then hit a perfect kick you can easy get into the 60s, my longest is 62, but my roommate hit a 68 yarder that bounced off the crossbar.
