Hello, hope it is ok to post this in here. For the first time in my life I am actually playing real futbol. I'm 42 years old and when I was in school we did not have a soccer team. Actually, no school within I know at least a 100 miles had a soccer team. I played baseball in high school and played legion ball but always wanted to play soccer. Well, I recently moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas and there is a local adult soccer league that has both a competitive and recreational league for adults. So at the young age of 42 I am going to play soccer this spring in the recreational league for adults 30 and over. I'm not worried much about my stamina and physical ability to play. Though I am 42, I am a avid cyclist, run a lot, and have a very slim build. So I do have a start in the stamina department. I am really worried though about the technique area of soccer. I understand there will be a definite learning curve. I figured I would first work just on my footwork with the ball and go from there. The reason I have composed this post is to ask for any advice on what I should expect, what area I should work on first, and just some opinions on the best shoes, shin guards, etc. Any advice that any of you think would help me will be greatly appreciated. I'm really excited about playing but I don't want to make a fool of myself.

I am 26 and started playing 2 years ago. Much like rich I love playing and it is so much fun. I wish I had played much sooner.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of this thread. It was very helpful and has made me even more excited for the upcoming season.
