The first class organization expects nothing short of excellence from their veteran roster. After enjoying so much success early in his career, Tom Brady has not won a Super Bowl since 2004. This year, one year removed from his single season passing TD record being broken by Peyton Manning, Tom Brady looks to have a big year and finally capture that ever so elusive 4th Super Bowl.
QB- At the helm of their deadly arial attack, the Patriots have Tom Brady. Likely to keep three quarterbacks this season, the Patriots' backup spot is up for grabs. Ryan Mallet and Jimmy Garoppolo will compete for the backup spot, with the loser being the third string.
RB- An already impressive backfield comprised of Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, and LaGarrette Blount, will look to be just as impressive, despite losing Blount to the Steelers in free agency. He was replaced by impressive rookie James White, who will compete for the starting job over Ridley, who fumbles too much, leaving Vereen to his role as the pass catching back.
WR- After a nice 2013 campaign, Julian Edelman, who will no longer be Brady's favorite target now that Gronk is healthy, looks to build on his success and continue to produce at a high level. With Edelman being used often in the slot, the two outside receivers for the Pats will most likely be Kenbrell Thompkins and Danny Amendola. Aaron Dobson and Brandon LaFell will also see some action, as they both bring unique skills to the table.
TE- When healthy Rob Gronkowski is arguably the best tight end in the league, unfortunately that has not been the case over that past two seasons in which he has only managed to play in 18 games. After Gronkowski this position wears thin for the Pats, but expect to see Michael Hoomanawanui again this year, if need be.
OLine- The Patriots have a strong and consistent group of guys who will be back at it again this year, lead by center Ryan Wendell, the left side, Logan Mankins and Nate Solder, is far stronger than the right, which by no means is weak, consisting of Sebastian Vollmer and Dan Connolly.
CB- After losing Aqib Talib to the Denver Broncos, the Pats responded with the big additions of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner to instantly give them one of the best cornerback duos in the league. The third spot is up for grabs, being battled for by Alfonzo Dennard, Logan Ryan, and Kyle Arrington. With Logan Ryan likely to win the spot due to his promise as a young talent, Alfonzo Dennard will likely be the fourth corner, leaving Arrington as the odd man out.
FS/SS- Devin McCourty is a lock for the free safety position. His back up will be Tavon Wilson. As for the strong safety spot, there will be competition between veteran Patrick Chung, who left for a brief stint with the Eagles, and second year player Duron Harmon.
LB- The Pats will boast a strong linebacker corps lead by long-time Patriot Jerod Mayo at inside linebacker. On the outside, the Patriots have the veteran Dont'a Hightower and promising second year player Jamie Collins.
DLine- The Patriots were able to bring back DT Vince Wilfork who holds together this strong defensive line. Accompanied by Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich on the ends, Wilfork and the Pats look to have another successful year stuffing the run and generating inside pressure. Also keep an eye on the Patriots' First Round Draft Pick Dominique Easley, who looks to contribute coming off of ACL surgery.
Patriots 12 Vikings 7 (RyanC )
The Patriots improve to 2-0 on the year with their second straight road win. Both offenses struggled in the bad weather, with just a combined 434 yards between the two. But, the Pats edged the slight victory thanks to 4 Viking turnovers, all interceptions thrown by Matt Cassel. Now the Pats set their sights on next week's opponent, the Oakland Raiders (DreSmithJr ).
Raiders 30 Patriots 6
Both teams got off to bad starts, with a few field goals and punts. Then, in the second quarter, the Raiders absolutely unleashed Derek Carr, with a notable long TD pass to James Jones, who flat out burned Revis. From the second quarter on, the Pats were forced to be one-dimensional and try to recover from a 18-pt deficit. This led to 4 Tom Brady interceptions, which completely took the Pats out of the game. Now, the Patriots look to forget all about that game, as they turn their focus to the Kansas City Chiefs(Jeffrey Hartle ) for Week 4.
Bengals 31 Patriots 36
The Patriots sent their 5th ranked defense out to defend their home field against the Bengals. Through 1 quarter of play both teams looked good, each scoring a touchdown. Then in the second quarter, A.J. Green (5 rec 212 yds 3 td) happened, scoring two touchdown from 50+ yards. Tom Brady went down with an injury and Jimmy Garoppolo held it down with a 52 yd touchdown pass to Julian Edelman (7 rec 162 yds 2 td). Going into the half, the Bengals led 28-17. This game was a tale of two halves, as in the second half the Patriots defense actually looked like a 5th ranked D, only allowing 3 second half points. Gronk (10 rec 122 yds 1 td) got the Patriots on the board in the third, and they never looked back, adding two more touchdowns in the 4th, including the game-winner to rookie TE Richard Rodgers (2 rec 30 yds 1 td). Revis also turned in a pick six to make it a one score game with 7:17 remaining. Now, the Patriots prepare for the Bills (PhiGuy179 ) next week, in a big division matchup.
The bills come tumbling into week six with a 2-3 record. The highs and lows of the season so far this year are vast. Watkins living up to his rookie of the year expectations as he is one of the nfl leading wide outs. Another big suprise this year had been the chemistry between goodwin and ej as goodwin also sees himself in the top 15 for wide outs. Talking to coach stone he states "Ej has the tools to really make this team a contender. I think he lets things get to him to often causing for one bad mistake to turn into three or four. We are working with him on that." The bills are set to take on the division rivals pats in what is sure to be a fantastic match up.
With the big game at the helm the bills played there best football of the year. Ej was a little rattled first half but came out strong in the second with 3 tds.
*Dumb blonde reporter one* Ej youve seem to be on a roll these last two game, any comments behind it?
*ej* well im not one to release to many secrets and all but I follow Mr. Bayless on twitter and he called out my qb unit calling us weak. Being the grown man I am I couldn't sit by and let this happen. On a serious note however I wanna state that cj has been a huge help for us this year hes really put in the time and has helped take the pressure off of me.
*reporter with wig down front* Coach Stone we all know how you have a reputation of being ALWAYS SMOOTH what can you say on this?
*Coach Stone* well just like the great beer I am named after I make sure to pack a punch. The bills will not be getting run over this year we've worked hard and im proud of these guys.
Well thats it ladies and gents the bills win for a second week in a row and 3 out of 4. Next week they take on the vikes in what should be a tight game even if the vikes decide to sit ap.
