Welcome to the first installment of the AFC West Round-Up. We will look at each team in the AFC West, give props to those playing well, call out those playing like bums, and introduce you to players you might not know but need to before you battle one of these teams.

The Chiefs managed to pull out a victory against the Atlanta Falcons with a last second FG. Very ugly game, but 1-0 is 1-0. For a running team, they didn't do a very good job of running the ball week one. On the injury front, the Chiefs will be without starting HB Jamaal Charles, MLB Jovan Belcher, and back-up DE Allen Bailey for the next few weeks.
San Diego got a big win in week one against divsion rival Oakland. Rivers played well, and the defense even chipped in with a score. Despite the win, the Chargers will have a tough road ahead as they will be without WR Eddie Royal and TE Antonio Gates for several weeks.

Peyton Manning's debut was a succesful one as he defeated the Steelers in week one. Not impressive statistically, but any time you can beat a defense like the Steelers you've done something. The Broncos get the award for the most fragile team in the league as WR Andre Caldwell, CB Tracy Porter, RG Chris Kuper, QB Peyton Manning, and LB Wesley Woodard are all on the injured list. At this point, it may be easier to list the players who are not injured.

Just Win, Baby! Just throw 5 picks, baby! Carson Palmer managed to throw 5 interceptions in a loss to the hated Chargers. The only people that enjoyed this game more than Chargers fans were Bengals fans. The Raiders will be without the services of SS Tyvon Branch for three weeks.
AFC West Player of the Week
    San Diego QB Phillip Rivers
    13-16/ 178 yards/ 2 TD's
AFC West Rookie of the Week
    Kansas City DT Dontari Poe
    2 tackles/ 1 sack/ 1 FF

The Chiefs moved to 2-0 with a win against the Bills. Offense finally got their ish together. With the injury to Jamaal Charles, Peyton Hillis will have to carry the load for a few weeks. Rookie Cyrus Gray should also see some touches as well. Back-up defensive end Allen Bailey is off the injured list and ready to go. Next up, a visit to New Orleans to take on the Saints.

Chargers pulled out a close one at home against Tennessee despite three turnovers to move to 2-0. QB Phillip Rivers was very accurate once again, but he also threw two picks for the second straight game. San Diego needs to get the running game going. WR Eddie Royal and TE Antonio Gates are still the only players on the injured list. Next up, the Atlanta Falcons pay San Diego a visit.

The Broncos moved to 2-0 with a big win against the Atlanta Falcons, despite being without Peyton Manning. Back-up QB Troy Smith filled in. Didn't do anything too impress with two interceptions and a fumble. Leaving me to ask how in the hell did they win this game!? The answer: two defensive TD's. One by CB Champ Bailey and another by LB DJ Williams. The Broncos will get Peyton back for their next game, but WR Andre Caldwell, CB Tracy Porter, RG Chris Kuper, and LB Wesley Woodyard are still out due to injury. The Broncos host the Houston Texans next week.

Someone may want to call the Raiders and tell them the season started. Oakland dropped to 0-2 with a 56-38 loss to the Dolphins last week. The Raiders defense gave up 604 yards of offense as Dolphins QB Joe Flacco carved their secondary up for 384 yards passing and 6 TD's. If that wasn't enough, rookie HB Lamar Miller, from The U, ran for 226 yards and 2 TD's. Leaving me to ask the same question asked at 4 minutes and 35 seconds of this video:
The Raiders offense played better, but if their defense doesn't stop playing flag football it could be a long season. The Raiders are still without SS Tyvon Branch for the next few weeks. They host the Pittsburg Steelers next week.
AFC West Player of the Week
Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel
    18-23/ 259 yards/ 3 TD's
AFC West Rookie of the Week
    San Diego SS Brandon Taylor
    5 tackles/ 1 tackle for loss/ 1 sack

The Chiefs ran over the New Orleans Saints to improve to 3-0. Peyton Hillis showed that KC might not miss Jamaal Charles as much as everyone thought. Rookie punt returner Devon Wylie put the rest of the league on notice that he will house a return if you're not careful. Next up, division rival San Diego comes to town.
The Broncos kept pace with the Chiefs as they moved to 3-0 with a 41-21 win over the Houston Texans. Peyton Manning returned from injury to throw for 289 yards and 3 TD's all to WR Demaryius Thomas. Denver is starting to get healthy and will look to pile on the "blow out the Raiders bandwagon" everyone is enjoying this year in week four.
The Chargers dropped their first game of the year last week as they lost to the visiting Atlanta Falcons. The defense played relatively well, but the offense was horrible. They managed only 177 yards of total offense. MLB Donald Butler joined WR Eddie Royal and TE Antonio Gates on the injured list. The Chargers travel to Kansas City this week for a big AFC West showdown.

Things have gotten so bad in Oakland for the 0-3 Raiders that the rest of the teams in the AFC West have asked the Raiders to quit telling people they're in the same division. It's embarrassing. Pittsburg ran over the Raiders to the tune of 268 yards rushing. Oakland travels to Denver this week with the goal of losing by less than 10, and actually making a tackle on a run play. Good luck guys:)
AFC West Offensive Player of the Week
    Kansas City HB Peyton Hillis
    23 carries/ 205 yards/ 3 TD's
AFC West Rookie of the Week
    Kansas City WR Devon Wylie
    213 return yards/ 2 TD's

In week four, the Chiefs defeated division foe San Diego behind three defensive TD's. The offense played very poorly however, and will need to step their game up next week against the Ravens. Look for rookie HB Cyrus Gray to get a few more touches each week until Jamaal Charles returns.
The Broncos were blown out last week by the struggling Raiders. They gave up over 500 yards of offense, while managing only 176 yards themselves. Even forcing thee turnovers by the Raiders couldn't help keep this one close. Denver travels to New England next week and hopes to put this game behind them instead of starting a trend. Denver's lengthy injury list is now down to one, CB Tracy Porter, who should return in a week.
The Chargers defense played well in their game against the Chiefs, but turnovers kept them making it a game. San Diego has now dropped two straight, and will look to put an end to the skid next week against New Orleans. San Diego should start seeing their players return from the injured list in the next few weeks.

In the words of Bishop from Juice, "The brotha finally decideds to stand up like a man and throw down." The Raiders offense has played well all season, but last week against the Broncos the defense showed up too in a blow out of Denver. Oakland will have to cut down on the turnovers if they want to put together a winning streak. Unfortunately for the Raiders, as soon as they get a win their momentum may be stopped by their bye week. The bye week does allow the Raiders to go into their next game completely healthy. For those of you who didn't get the Bishop reference, first of all wtf is wrong with you! Second, here you go:

AFC West Offensive Player of the Week
    Oakland QB Carson Palmer
    21-34/ 389 yards/ 3 TD's
AFC West Defensive Player of the Week
    Kanas City DE Tyson Jackson
    4 tackles/ 4 sacks
AFC West Rookie of the Week
    San Diego DE Kendall Reyes
    3 tackles/ 1 sack
