    Alabama 2012 Game Summaries

    Alabama vs Maryland

This was another great game featuring two great teams. Maryland was not about to let the 18 point loss to Alabama last season affect this game. They came out and played tough and gave Bama everything they wanted and then some. Bama had to shift strategy in this game a bit. The Terps really decided to shut down the Bama running game win this game. Star Jackson had to really prove he could take over a game. He came through in a big way going 16-22 for 358 yards and 5 TD's. Although he did throw two costly interceptions that led to Maryland points. Jeramie Griffin once again led the Bama rushing game with 20 carries for 98 yards. The Bama defense performed admirably against a very good offense. The Terp running back's tremendous speed gave Bama fits at times. But in the end The Crimson Tide outgained The Terrapins 484 to 358. A great all around showing and a fantastic game by two fantastic teams. Alabama improves to 2-0(0-0).

    FINAL SCORE
    43-40

    Player of the Game
    Star Jackson 16-22, 358 Yds, 5 TD

    Alabama at Wisconsin

Alabama traveled to Madison to play in front of a tough Badger crowd. Bama came out a little sluggish in this game after the big win last week over Maryland. They struggled to move the ball at times and it almost came back to haunt them a few times. The big problem for The Tide was their struggle to move the ball on the ground. The running game, led by Jeramie Griffin, is usually the bread and butter of this Alabama offense but Wisconsin did a really good job of shutting it down. Eventually Bama had to turn to Star Jackson again to make the plays to win the game. Star was coming off a HUGE game against The Terps and didn't disappoint. All 21 of Bama's points were scored by Star's arm. He also added 34 yards on the ground. The game started off very slow with neither team scoring in the first quarter. Bama scored twice in the second quarter with two long TD passes by Star. Wisconsin also scored a FG in the second. The third quarter saw another Bama TD and since they were up 21-3 the played conservative in the fourth but that allowed The Badgers to score a TD and a 2-point conversion and make it a ten point game. The Badgers tried the onside kick but Bama would recover and run the clock out. Alabama improves to 2-0(0-0).

    FINAL SCORE
    Bama-21 Wisc-11

    Star Jackson 13-19 231 Yds, 3 TD's

    Alabama at Arkansas

One thing going into this game that Coach JFunk really stressed in practice was the need to improve on defense. They have not played consistently well this season. Arkansas is not exactly a world beater but they have a very strong offense. So this was a challenge that Coach JFunk was looking forward to attacking. And attack he did. The Bama defense held the Arkansas run game to just 8 yards and their high flying passing attack to 123 yards. This was much more along the lines of the defense that Coach JFunk wants to see from his team. The offense was solid putting up 389 total yards. The offense was sparked by Jeramie Griffin's running. He was solid but went out of the game in the second half and will likely be out for three weeks. Undra Billingsley had another fantastic game at defensive end with 3 sacks. Star Jackson was solid going 10 of 15 for 132 yards and 2 TD's. Overall very good win for The Tide. Alabama improves to 3-1(1-0) on the season.

    FINAL SCORE
    Bama-31 Ark-0

    Alabama vs UGA

This game was not quite what you might expect from two elite SEC teams. A pretty high scoring affair in a conference known for it's defense. Both team's QB's had a pretty good day throwing the rock around. Bama's Star Jackson was 18-26 for 255 yards and 3 TD's. Bama was already down to their second string running back, Trent Richardson, with Jeramie Griffin out. Well Richardson went down in this game and is expected to miss at least two more games. So Bama had to rely on third string RB Justin Rollins. He performed well in his first major collegiate action. The biggest lead Bama had in this game was 28-17 in the third quarter but they could never put the Dawgs away. UGA mounted a comeback and the game was actually tied with seconds on the clock. Bama made a big drive and capped it off with a FG at the end of regulation to take the victory. Alabama improves to 4-1(2-0).

    FINAL SCORE
    Bama-38 UGA-35

    Alabama vs Ole Miss

Alabama never plans on relying on Star Jackson to win games for them. It just has never been their style. They try to let a strong stable of running backs grind out the clock and beat down the defense. Well Bama has loss their two top tailbacks, Jeramie Griffin and Trent Richardson, so they are down to placing the load on the back of third string RB, redshirt sophomore Justin Rollins. Rollins is not a bad player but he is definite step down from Griffin and Richardson. He struggled to really get in his groove against a good Ole Miss defense. He ran the ball 15 times for only 45 yards. Obviously this wasn't going to win the game for them so once again Star Jackson took control of the game. He lit up the Ole Miss defense. He threw all day, under pressure, against every coverage in their playbook, and was absolutely dominant. It was one of those game that will probably define his magnificent career at The University of Alabama and it will be hard to see him leave. Alabama improves to 5-1(3-0).

The Third Saturday In October has always been a huge rivalry. But lately it has lacked the competitiveness and this season was no different. Bama outclassed Tennessee in every phase of the game and sent the Vol crowd home in shame. Bama came out with a relentless attack and never let up controlling the clock and pounding The Vols into submission. Tennessee's offense was held to just 162 yards and was just 1 for 10 on third down conversions. Bama played off a strong running game and timely passing to grind out a win. Also Kendall Kelly added a touchdown on a kickoff return to start the second half which really pulled the remainder of the life out of The Vol team. That put Bama up 28-0 and they never looked back. Star Jackson was fantastic going 14 of 15 for 136 yards and a TD. Chris Jordan was the leader on defense with 12 tackles and a forced fumble. Alabama improves to 6-1(4-0).

Great SEC West rivalry game. Two teams on their own mission to make it to Atlanta and play for an SEC Championship. This game would likely be the make or break for either team. Bama struggled fiercely in the first half. Struggling with turnovers on offense and the formidable task of stopping LSU's triple option attack on defense. LSU used that triple option attack to perfection in the first half, grinding out the clock and putting up 3 rushing TD's. Bama's offense moved the ball well in the first half but was hit by the turnover bug on two key red zone opportunities. With LSU's offense clicking and Bama's turnover troubles it was looking rough for Bama at the half trailing 21-7. Coach JFunk knew no matter how well his offense played, unless he could stop LSU or cause turnovers he was going to lose this game. So he talked to his defensive coordinator at the half and looked at some overhead shots of the formations and plays LSU was running and decided to take a slightly different approach to stopping the fleXbox One. The change in planning worked wonders, LSU did not score another point the rest of the game and Bama's offense stepped up big time. Holding on to the ball and making plays they were able to put two more TD's on the board. Then with less than two minutes left, after a big stop of LSU's drive at mid-field, Bama got the ball back. They drove down the field and chewed the clock. With :07 seconds left on the clock and LSU out of timeouts, redshirt sophomore kicker Alonzo Murphy stepped on the field. He lined up and drilled the 23 yard chip shot field goal to seal the victory for Bama and guarantee them a spot in the SEC Championship Game. Alabama improves to 9-1(7-0).

The Iron Bowl. One of the greatest rivalries in the country. Records go out the window and these teams meet and decide who wants it more. Auburn could not develop a running game in this game. That allowed Bama to make the adjustments they needed on D although Auburn still had 293 yards. The game was very even for most of it but the second quarter really made the difference. Bama scored 3 TD's, two passing and one defensive, and a FG putting them up 31-14 at the half. Jeramie Griffin had a solid day on the ground, 21 Car 126 Yds and a TD, and he was also had 3 receptions for 15 yards. Bama pretty much cruised through the rest of the game playing very conservatively while still scoring 17 more points. Alabama improves to 10-1(8-0).

    Alabama vs Notre Dame

Another paper tiger is exposed. Notre Dame came into Tuscaloosa with a lofty ranking and even loftier expectations. They were exposed to what they really are, nothing more than a glorified mid-major. They came south to play a real team with real football players and were utterly destroyed. Notre Dame could only manage 174 yards of offense and 3 points throughout the entire game. The Tide on the other hand had 431 yards of offense and racked up 42 points. Star Jackson was exquisite under immense pressure from the Notre Dame defense. He was 18 of 23 for 295 yards and a TD. This game definitely won't hurt his Heisman run. This game will shake up the rankings a bit as it was a good warm up for Bama as they prepare to face Florida in the SEC Championship Game. Alabama improves to 11-1(8-0).
