THREE-HEADED MONSTER OF ALEXANDER, KELLY AND RICHARDSON LEAD TIDE PAST LSU, 40 - 35

TUSCALOOSA, AL -- After a crushing defeat at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs, the Crimson Tide needed a win to stay alive in the SEC West race and National Title picture. Fortunately, the BAMA "Big Three" played one of their best games of the season in a 40 - 35 victory over the #2 ranked LSU Tigers. The "Big Three" combined for 406 yards of total offense and scored 4 touchdowns.

A huge factor in the game was the line play of both teams. The Alabama offensive and defensive lines seemed to control the line of scrimmage for most of the game. This was very evident in the rushing totals of both teams. Alabama rushed for 187 yards while LSU only rushed for 16. Of course, LSU losing RB Ford to injury early in the game didn't help the Tigers. Also, the BAMA D-line was able to come up with 6 sacks in the game to only 1 for the Tigers.

Even though Alabama had a clear statistical edge in this game, LSU managed to hang around. Two times in the fourth quarter when it appeared that Alabama was going to cruise to victory, LSU came up with huge plays to stay in the game. With Bama up 33 - 21 with 4 minutes to play, LSU's Flores returned a kickoff back for 89 yards to get the Tigers within 6. After Bama scored again with 3 minutes to go, True Freshman QB Joe Hall (he needs to be the starter) would connect with Castillo (Alabama could not stop him) for a 72 yard touchdown to get with in five. However, it wouldn't be enough as the Tide running game would be able to run out the remaining 2:30 to seal the victory.

    Key Stats

    Alabama

    QB AJ McCarron - 14 of 19 for 339 yards and 2 TD's. (0 ints)
RB Trent Richardson - 24 attempts for 155 yards and 2 TD's. (left in the 3rd quarter with ANOTHER injury)
WR Eugene Alexander - 5 receptions for 117 yards and 1 TD
WR Kendall Kelly - 4 receptions for 134 yards and 1 TD
TE John Poland - 4 receptions for 82 yards

    LSU

    QB Joe Hall - 5 of 6 for 115 yards and 2 TD's
    QB D. McGee - 6 of 13 for 157 yards and 2 Ints
    RB M. Ford - 1 carry for 1 yard
    WR D. Castillo - 5 catches for 191 yards and 2 TD's
