    Alabama Crimson Tide

    New Sherriff In Town

Coach Papa Perry takes over for an inconsistant Alabama team after Nick Saban retired following Bama's 4-6 start. Don't let the record fool you folks, this is a very talented teams that just needs a few wrinkles smoothed out and they could compete for the SEC again by next season. It all starts with recruiting which Coach Perry inherits a group of solid young athletes who say they are staying loyal to their commitment to the Crimson Tide. Question marks are amongst the running game which has seemed to struggle, as well as the defensive tackle position since Terrence Cody will graduate following this season. Coach Perry also mentioned that from what he sees, Julio Jones is one of the top 5 receivers in the nation. Due to other receivers not stepping up and taking the pressure off, Julio has been double teamed all season and hasn't been able to produce like he did in his freshman season.

The Tide's first test under new coach Papa Perry was nothing even like a test. In fact after Ingram scored on the opening drive for Alabama, it was like they were on cruise control. Combined with Alabama's defense pitching the shutout, the team looked great as a whole today.

The only problems they had were some bad throws by McElroy that any quarterback will make adapting to a new playbook and offensive philosophy. He finished with 3 INT's, but he also had 4 TD's and nearly had 300 yards passing. Maze flourished with the new plays, totaling 147 yards receiving and 2 TD's. The rushing game truly dominated, combining for 300 rushing yards. Ingram and Upchurch carried the bulk and totaled 3 TD's as well.

The defense was flawless forcing 4 INT's. Hightower grabbed 2 of them and took one back to the house for a TD. They only sacked the QB twice but Lorenzo Washington did it when it really mattered, getting both sacks on 3rd downs. Alabama only allowed 115 offensive yards, mainly because of all the tackles behind the line of scrimmage(17 total TFL).

    Offensive Player of the Game
    Marquis Maze
    3 Rec, 147 Yds, 2 TD's

    Defensive Player of the Game
    Dont'a Hightower
    4 Tkls, 3 TFL, 2 INT, 1 Def TD

A year removed from being 12-0 in the regular season, Alabama came into there last game of the season fighting to become bowl eligible. With a bowl bid just one win away, the Crimson Tide come through and plowed the Auburn Tigers.

The offense was lead by running backs Mark Ingram and Roy Upchurch who totaled 233 rushing yards and 3 TD's. This was probably the best outing for the Tide offense all season. McElroy is gonna have to work on his decision making after completing just 9-20 of his passes.

The defense kept there's running game under wraps but struggled with the pass most of the day. They sacked the QB 4 times and had 13 TFL.

    Offensive Player of the Game
    Roy Upchurch
    17 Car, 122 Yds, 2 TD

    Defensive Player of the Game
    Lorenzo Washington
    3 Tkls, 1 TFL, 1 Sk, 1 INT

In a very emotional back and forth game, Alabama pulled out the win. Senior kicker Leigh Tiffin ended his career the best way he could, a 46 yard field goal into the wind.

Bama got the ball back with a minute to go and down 1 point in the 4th quarter when BJ Scott got the ball at the 12 and took it 34 yards to make it easier for his quarterback who had a rough game. Greg McElroy threw 4 INT's that really kept Maryland in the game. But on his last drive he did what all great QB's do: Became a leader. After getting the ball in Tiffin's range he called their last timeout that left 3 seconds on the clock. He came to the sideline's walked directly to Tiffin hugged him and said, "This is your moment. This is your chance to be a hero. Mark your place in history." And Tiffin did just that. He powered the ball between the goal posts and it looked as if it could have went even further.

If it wouldn't have been for the Rolando McClain led defense, Maryland probably could have run the score up too high for Bama to catch them. They never forsed any turnovers but they kept them in check with plenty of sacks and tackles behind the line of scrimmage. The highlight of the night has got to be McClain flying through the line and gettting his first blocked FG of his career. That got the team fueled up to launch there comeback.

    Offensive Player Of The Game

    Mark Ingram
    22 Car, 136 Yds, TD

    Defensive Player Of The Game

    Rolando McClain
    9 Tkls, 4 TFL, 1 FG Block

    Honorable Mention

    Leigh Tiffin
    2/2 FG's, Long 46 (Game Winning)

Impressive win Papa. Looks like the running game was big in the win. The Tide looks up to the challenge of trying to over take the Tigers in the SEC.

I'm really looking forward to playing geux. I've noticed he usually doesn't have a bad record and I would like to see how I size up to him.
