    Alabama game summaries

    Alabama at Penn State

In a game between two of the most tradition rich schools in all of football, Alabama out classes Penn State in Happy Valley. Alabama is slowly installing the new philosophies of the new coaching staff. Theie talent will carry them through most games but the system really needs to come together before the thick of the schedule rolls around. Preferably before facing #2 Florida in 3 weeks. But nevertheless there was a lot of good in this game. Including 580 yards of total offense. While the defense was a little rough at times Dre Kirkpatrick was a shining light in the secondary with 2 picks. But the coaching staff is encouraged because no matter their ranking, or lack thereof, Penn State is a great team. Hopefully this team continues to get better every week and good things could be on the horizon. Alabama is 1-0(0-0).

    FINAL SCORE:
    Bama-38 PSU-7

Player of the Game: Star Jackson 11-19 190 yards 2 TD, 13 carries 129 yards 2 TD.

Next week is a bye week.

    Alabama vs Arkansas

In Alabama's SEC opener they faced Arkansas and their high powered offense. The defense struggled to consistently stop QB Ryan Mallet and Arkansas' offense but they made enough stops and got the offense on the field enough times to win the game. And luckily the offense came to play. They put up 495 yards of total offense in a very balanced attack. Star Jackson led the offense like the true game changing QB Bama will need throughout this season to win the big games. He had 273 yards passing and 5 TD's. Jeramie Griffin got most of the work at RB rushing for 202 yards. All wasn't bad for the defense though as they were able to hold Arkansas to only 62 yards on the ground. Preparations for possibly Bama's biggest game of the season, Florida, have already begun. Alabama improves to 2-0(1-0).

    FINAL SCORE: Bama-50 Arky-33

Player of the Game: Star Jackson 15-19 273 yards 5 TD's

    Next game at #3 Florida

    Alabama at Florida

BK already posted a great summary over in the Gator Chomp thread but I'll give a quick addendum from the Tide side. It was a back and forth battle. Bama couldn't stop Brantley's passing, they could only hope to contain. And while they did that on a few occasions they didn't do it when it mattered. Specifically third down was a killer. Florida was 10/11. Not matter how long the conversion was, they found a way to get it. Bama will continue to improve and work and it's defense, which is a new system from the one run by Hack and the old staff and still needs some tweaking and personnel additions.

    Alabama at Ole Miss

Alabama needed to make a statement in SEC play especially against a division foe like Ole Miss. Well they did that. An impressive offensive and defensive showing led to an absolute destruction of The Rebels in Oxford. The Rebels offense was impotent against an impressive showing by the Bama D. The Rebels were held to only 77 total yards compared to 491 by Bama. Bama seems to be clicking a little more but will need to continue to improve over the next few weeks and get a few more key conference wins. If Bama can continue to get better in the system and move the ball effectively they may get exactly what they want. Another shot at the Gators in Atlanta for the SECCG after the 3-point overtime loss earlier in the season. Bama improves to 3-1(2-1).

    FINAL SCORE: Bama-45 Ole Miss-0

Player of the Game: Star Jackson 19-21 265 yards 3 TD's

    Next game vs Tennessee

    Alabama vs Tennessee

Alabama had another strong showing this week. Bitter rival Tennessee came to town and was given a very harsh welcome. The Tennessee defense couldn't stop the Bama offense and the Tennessee offense looked very mediocre against Bama's D amassing only 197 yards of offense. Star Jackson continue to break records and break the will's of opposing defenses. Bama's defense look very good for most of the game. Jerrell Harris played a good game 6 tackles, 3 for loss, and a pass deflection. This game got out oh hand pretty quickly, being 28-7 at the half. Tennessee's only TD came on a long pass to Ahmad Paige on a broken read by the corner covering him. Alabama improves to 4-1(3-1).

    FINAL SCORE:
    Bama-56 UT-7

Player of the Game: Star Jackson 15-18 238 yards 3 total TD's

    #8 Alabama vs Vanderbilt

After a big win in their rivalry game with Tennessee, Bama came out confident and fired up. Bama pounded the ball out in the first quarter and shot out to a 21-3 lead. Vandy was able to make a drive in the second quarter and score a TD on a short goal line pass. But Bama answered with 10 points of their own in the second to make it a 31-10 game at the half. Bama made some adjustments on D at halftime and came out with a very conservative game plan in the second half. Two FG's in the third made it 37-10. Vandy scored again in the fourth but Bama added two more scores and sealed the victory. Bama outgained Vandy 455 to 227 in the game. Good performances all around on offense and defense. Jeramie Griffin racked up 187 yards on 20 carries with 2 TD's before leaving the game in the fourth. Trent Richardson came in and added 66 more yards on 9 carries. Marquis Maze had 91 yards on 6 receptions. On defense Robert Lester came up big with 9 tackles and Dre Kirkpatrick had a very nice one handed interception. Alabama improves to 5-1(4-1).

    FINAL SCORE: Bama-50 Vandy-17

    Player of the Game:
    Star Jackson 10-16 166 yds 5 car 36 yds 3 total TD's

    #8 Alabama at Mississippi State

In terms of geography Tuscaloosa is only about 90 miles from Starkville. In terms of football The University of Alabama is WORLDS away from Mississippi State. The Tide thrashed The Bulldogs in their annual rivalry game. Although MSU has improved in recent years under new leadership they still aren't ready to be actual competitors in the SEC West. The game started out okay for MSU as they were able to keep Bama from scoring only 7 in the 1st quarter. But the 2nd quarter was a different story as Bama put 4 TD on the board. MSU was only able to eek out a FG in the first half making it 35-3 at the half. In the first half 4 of 5 Bama TD were scored by different people, Marquis Maze, Chris Underwood(2), Jeramie Griffin, and Darius Hanks. The second half saw a much more conservative gameplan. Bama added another 17 in the second half and MSU scored their only TD of the day. Bama outgained MSU 444 to 195. Jeramie Griffin was responsible for 195 on the ground off of 32 carries. Darius Hanks was the main target in the passing game with 6 receptions for 96 yards and a TD. Bama improves to 6-1(5-1).

    FINAL SCORE: Bama-52 Miss St-10

Player of the Game: Star Jackson 14-16 216 yards 4 TD

    Next game vs #21 LSU

    Alabama at Auburn

Overall not an extremely impressive showing for Bama. The game was a much tougher battle than the score would reflect. While Bama's offense peformed admirably racking up 575 total yards of offense, Coach JFunk was not please with they way his defense played, especially in the passing game. Bama's D gave up 374 yards to Auburn, including 289 through the air. The key to the game came down to Bama's offense making the big plays when they needed to and most importantly converting on third down. Bama was 5 for 7 on third down conversions while Auburn was just 1 of 8. Alabama got out to an early 21-0 lead at the half but Auburn came out and outscored Bama 10-7 in the third quarter. Bama came out and played well in the fourth and sealed the deal with two more TD's. Alabama improves to 7-2(6-2).

    FINAL SCORE:
    Bama-42 Aub-10

Player of the Game: Jeramie Griffin 26 Car, 313 Yds(School Record), 2 TD

    Alabama at Maryland
In a huge game for The Crimson Tide, they went into the home stadium of one of the hottest teams in the country, Maryland and came out victorious. It was old school football for Bama as they used solid defense and a strong running game to come away with the upset. The Terrapins only touchdown came with 1:10 left in the game on a 42 yard pass followed by a failed 2 point attempt. That play would prove to be almost ALL of Maryland's offense in the game as they compiled only 94 yards of total offense, with an amazing -12 on the ground. Besides the big play they gave up in the fourth, the passing defense of Bama was very solid as well. The Terps QB was just 6-14 for 106 yards and a TD with 3 INT's. Another glaring stat in this game was the third down conversions for each team. Bama was 9-13 on third down and Maryland was just 1-5. And Bama's running game made it easy to keep Maryland's offense off the field holding the ball almost 4 times as long in this game than Maryland. Bama improved to 8-2(6-2).

    FINAL SCORE: Bama-24 Terps-6

    Player of the Game:
Jeramie Griffin 34 Car, 154 Yds, 2 TD

Tough way for Bama to end the season with back-to-back, ranked, non-conference opponents. But the more than rose to the occasion two weeks in a row. In these last two games The Tide outscored their opponents 52-13, the 24-6 win over Maryland the previous week and a 28-7 win over VT in this game.

In the VT game Bama's offense was nothing if not efficient. They drove the ball and controlled the clock and made timely passes when necessary. Bama threw the ball just 9 times in this game, completing 8 of them for 91 yards. The big story was the running game, which wore down the Hokie defense the entire game. The Tide amassed 253 yards on the ground, controlled the clock, and held the ball for almost 2/3 of the game. They were also once again extremely successful on third downs on offense and defense. The Bama offense converted 5-6 opportunities on third down and the defense held VT to just 1-5 on third downs. Bama finishes the regular season 9-2(6-2).

    FINAL SCORE:
    Bama-28 VT-7

    Player of the Game:
Jeramie Griffin 33 Car, 208 Yds, TD

    Alabama vs Rutgers

After a long trying season The Alabama Crimson Tide capped off their season with a win over Rutgers in The Sugar Bowl. Rutgers came out with a great gameplan to slow down Alabama's running game, which had been there bread and butter this season. Although this Bama team prefers to run the ball, the are very capable of moving the ball through the air. Star Jackson is Bama's all-time leading passer and he is an excellent field general. He used his arm to spread the ball around and shred the Rutgers defense and lead Bama to a victory. Bama finishes the season 10-2(6-2).

    FINAL SCORE
    Bama-35 RU-14
