    Alabama Season Preview

    After jumping out of the chute with speed, Alabama continued on a path of destruction, finishing the regular season at a perfect 12 - 0. Unfortunately their glory and esteem highs were quickly deflated after an embarrasing loss to Florida in the SEC Championship game. The humiliation continued with a bonecrushing rout by the Utah Utes in the Sugar Bowl.

    Alabama looks to mend their wounds and put the awful taste left in their mouth from the end of last season elsewhere. With the top recruiting class in 2008, Alabama will be building on an already star studded cast on the Defensive Side of the ball, which will be returning 9 Starters (including three ALL-SEC honorees.)

    Unfortunately, the semi-explosive offense has been depleted with only 4 starters returning to start the 2009 Season. First we will start with the bad: QB and Senior Leader, John Parker Wilson played a vital part of the '08 Season and will be a tough void to fill. To throw gas on the fire, stout running back Glen Coffee and offensive tackle Andre Smith both declared for the NFL Draft and will not be returning this season.

    Young superstar Julio Jones has proven to be a major factor at receiver and will look to get more touches from up and coming QB Greg McElroy (Texas Native boy who played backup to Chase Daniel at Mizzou.) Redshirt Freshman Star Jackson will be giving McElroy a run for his money at QB though, who has been highly praised out of Florida for both his accuracy and the wheels he can bring to add the extra running dimension. McElroy will rely on running back Mark Ingram to stay healthy this season and for freshman Trent Richardson to be as good as everyone thinks he will be.

    It may take some time for the offense to show their strengths, but with some solid clock management and the ability to put the ball in the playmakers' hands, Alabama can win the SEC West again and hopefully the SEC. The defense is that good and that deep to keep the game in reach for the inexperienced offense.

    * 4 Returning Starters
    * Key Losses at QB, RB, TE and OL
    * Star WR in Julio Jones
    * Needs to establish a good OL and running game to allow QB McElroy to be an effective play caller

    * 9 Returning Starters
    * 3 ALL-SEC Honorees Returning
    * One of the top pre-season ranked Defenses
    * Should keep games from getting out of hand for growing Offense

    * Speedy Javier Arenas (CB) should still be the man on both punts and kicks

    * #1 Recruiting Class for the 2008 Season
