    INSTANT ANALYSIS
Uruguay jump out in front of the rest with the only victory of the round. Colombia will be rueing their missed opportunity, while Mexico will be elated with their point earned. United States has work to do still, but will have to wait until the 3rd round to wash the sour taste of defeat out of their mouth. Brazil had the round off, but will hope their form doesn't escape them in the next round.

    MATCH RECAPS

    Mexico 1-1 Colombia
    :goal: F. Rodriguez (MEX)
    :goal: Falcao (COL)
    :yellowcard: F. Guarin (COL)
    :trophy: J. Cuardado (COL)

Mexico provided the surprise of the round with a home draw vs prohibitive group favorites Colombia. It didn't take long for Radamel Falcao to open his account, as he headed in a cross to put the visitors ahead after just 4 minutes. But Mexico responded well, and found their equalizer in the 25th minute from a corner routine finished by defender F. Rodriguez. Both teams pressed for the go-ahead goal, but none was to be had.

    United States 0-2 Uruguay
    :goal: E. Cavani (URU)
    :goal: G. Ramirez (URU)

    CS: F. Muslera (URU)
    :trophy: G. Ramirez (URU)

The United States put up a valiant effort at home against Uruguay, but were ultimately undone by a certain Liverpudlian striker. The Americans looked strong early, but J. Jones, L. Donovan and C. Dempsey could not find the net with their chances. It took a moment of brilliance in the 81st minute for Uruguay to break the Americans resolve, dribbling through the defense and sending E. Cavani in for the opening goal. G. Ramirez added a second in the 90th minute from another Suarez pass, and Uruguay escaped with a 2-0 win and a full 3 points.

    Brazil - Argentina

The match goes unplayed, as Argentina are manager-less for the time being. The Brazilians, ranked 4th in the world coming into the first round of qualifiers, will look to continue their good form in the next round at Mexico.

    PLAYER OF THE ROUND
    L. Suarez - He may not have been on the score sheet (this time), but the Liverpool dangerman set up both of Uruguay's goals in their win over United States. Suarez's performance has La Celeste at top of the group after the 1st round of play.

    NEXT ROUND (February 19-26)
    Mexico (1 Pts) - Brazil (0 Pts)
Argentina (0 Pts) - United States (0 Pts)
    Colombia (1 Pts) - Uruguay (3 Pts)
