San Franciso, CA - The snakebitten St. Louis Rams headed to San Francisco to take on the division leading 49ers in a divisional tilt that few expected to be a game. The Rams have lost a few games in agonizing fashion this year and would really need to play a complete game just to compete against the Niners. In the wacky of world of QSF sports, the Rams did just that as their methodical offense led by the enigmatic QB Genoa Godfrey somehow managed to score 16 points while the no name defense of the Rams held the vaunted 49ers offense to three points to win 16-3 at Candlestick.

Godfrey has been installed as starting QB since Peyton Manning went down with an injury and for the second straight game, didnt throw an interception. (Yes call Ripley's). He completed 12-22 for 204 yards including a touchdown to their stud WR Thurman Banks. Banks 57 yard catch and run spelled the difference in this one.

The defense has been playing stout all season despite their rankings. (Mainly due to how ineffective the offense has been.) This game proved that they were able to manage the game effectively. Strong play by the secondary forced the Niners to work methodically down field and each time the defense was strong enough to force a field goal a turnover. The games biggest turnover occurred late in the 4th quarter. The Rams had extended the lead to 16-3 with just over 3 minutes remaining. Kapernick was driving the Niners for a touchdown when LB Stephen Marshall forced a fumble on Kapernick which was recovered in the endzone by Donte Whitner. The offense did just enough to keep the ball away from the Niners to secure the win.

With the win, the Rams move to 3-5 while staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. Games against the Vikings, Packers, Cardinals and Niners who all currently sit at 6-2 are left. The Niners fall back to a first place division tie with the Cardinals at 6-2. A small QB controversy may have started though. The Peyton Manning led Rams were tragically inept at scoring and winning games. Godfrey has show enough poise the past two games where he may have grasped the starting job away.
