In celebration of our 10th season of TFSerie play, I will be taking a look through the archives, highlighting the best (and worst) of the previous 9 seasons.

And after the conclusion of Season 10, we'll have one more piece of decade-related content to put up. But more on that later...

    Here's the archives, for reference:

SEASON 1 - The Inaugural Campaign

It seems like forever ago that the TFSerie (then known as the Tradition Futbol League), got off the ground here at TraditionSportsOnline.com. 22 brave managers (of which 11 are still active) took one giant step into the unknown. Facing off for the 1st time, it was anyone's guess who would prevail. While the Archives for our 1st season are incomplete, a look to the final table gives us a good idea of what went down.

The inaugural Serie A campaign broke down into 3 tiers. The also-rans brought up the rear, as 8th - 12th place were separated by only 10 Pts. Three of those teams dropped out before season's end. UcanHateMeNow's Schalke were stranded in no-man's land on 24 Pts in 7th, while 6th place juanchoCT14 finished on 30 Pts. Behind the leaders, 3 teams finished even on 35 Pts, Zikry, RedAL925, and hedache. And at the top, the champions of Serie A by virtue of Goals For tiebreaker, Broncos218, who edged out shiftee on 41 Pts.

Serie B went to Paulitix, who finished the season 4 Pts clear with an unplayed game in hand. Both kaptainkracker1 (37 Pts) and TdotMindset (30 Pts) earned promotion, while CxMacx10 narrowly missed out, finishing 4th on 29 Pts.

There was also a cup competition, a knockout-style tournament akin to the FA Cup. Yes, the archives are incomplete for that too, but we do know that Zikry began his tournament conquests with a 4-1 win over Go Devils (yes, that Go Devils ) in the final, averaging 3.8 goals per game along the way.

    SERIE A CHAMPION: Broncos218 - Hamburger SV

SERIE B CHAMPION: Paulitix - Athletic Club

TFL CUP CHAMPION: Zikry - Palermo

TOP SCORER: S. Doumbia (CSKA) - 19 Goals

shiftee and I faced off in a Serie A title playoff match that I won, and that's still one of my most memorable TFS matches to date. Thanks Ruud van Nistelrooy!

And don't forgot the PS3 "apocalyps3" that occurred midseason that shut things down for a while and resulted in a few owners falling off the map. That could've easily derailed everything for good.

I'm hoping that I don't end up on some of the serie a least records. It's going to be a struggle for me, no doubt.

The season (and possibly the league) was almost derailed when the PS Network went offline for a month after hackers stole nearly 77 million account details. But we persevered, and while the Archives for our 1st season are incomplete, a look to the final table gives us a good idea of what went down.

The inaugural Serie A campaign broke down into 3 tiers. The also-rans brought up the rear, as 8th - 12th place were separated by only 10 Pts. OhDaesu19, though managing to survive via 3 managers dropping out before season's end, set an unflattering (and maybe unbreakable) record for impotency with only 8 goals for all season. And at the top, the Serie A championship was deciced by a dramatic one-game playoff between Broncos218 and shiftee (tied on 41 Pts). And it was Ruud van Nistelrooy who pushed Broncos over the top for the 1st championship in TFS history.

Serie B went to Paulitix, who finished the season 4 Pts clear with an unplayed game in hand. Both kaptainkracker1 (37 Pts) and TdotMindset (30 Pts) earned promotion, while CxMacx10, yet to break out as a top manager, narrowly missed promotion, finishing 4th on 29 Pts.

    SEASON 2 - A Russian in America

Off the heels of a successful 1st season, the element of surprise was now off the table in Season 2. The TFL kept the momentum going into the final season of FIFA 11 play, adding 2 managers to make a 12-12 league format. One of those managers, Friz, would be destined for greatness, but more on that later.

Season 2 was all about the domination of shiftee's CSKA Moscow side. The pain of losing a playoff final for the Serie A title in S1 provided the spark, and the Russians lit Serie A ablaze. Wire-to-wire spent in 1st place, CSKA set TFS records for Points (52 - still unbroken), Wins (16 - matched), and Goals For (55 - broken, we'll get to that too). Even individual performances were ground-breaking, as S. Doumbia bagged another scoring title with 28 Goals for his club, shattering his own S1 mark of 19.

Shiftee's emergence caused quite a battle for 2nd place in Serie A. juanchoCT14 was on the short end of the stick; his 2nd place finish on 47 Pts would have been good for a title in almost any other TFS season. Zikry only allowed 12 Goals all season, and set a still-unbroken record with 14 Clean Sheets, but 3rd place is all he has to show for it. Even RedAL925 had a go, spending most of the season in 2nd place until a late-season swoon (the start of an unsettling trend) dropped him to 4th on 37 Pts. All 3 promoted teams from S1 managed to stay up, sticking together in 7-9th place. But it wasn't all unicorns and rainbows...

..."For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." Newton's 3rd law was especially harsh on OhDaesu19, as the longtime manager set dubious Serie A records that will likely never be broken for Points (6), Worst Goal Difference (-45), and Most Goals Against (54). His subsequent relegation to Serie B was salt in the wound.

Speaking of the 2nd tier, there was quite the goals explosion happening for HokieNYC, who cruised to a Serie B title and promotion to Serie A with 48 Goals For (10 better than S1's best). Hot on his trail were bigox1337 and snake3249, who both made the jump to the top flight. Meanwhile, a trip to the TFL Cup finals in S1 couldn't keep Go Devils from reverting to form, finishing S2 with 8 Pts and 1 win.

And about that TFL Cup. We were set up for an epic final between opposing styles...the high-octane offense of HokieNYC's Newcastle, against the defensive powerhouse of Zikry's Lazio. Making his 2nd consecutive cup final, Zikry seemed the odds-on favorite, but HokieNYC was not to be overshadowed. The game went to extra time, the score level at 2-2. There was drama, there was intrigue, and then there was.....nothing. A disconnect derailed the final, and it went unplayed.

SERIE A CHAMPION: shiftee - CSKA Moscow

SERIE B CHAMPION: HokieNYC - Newcastle

TFL CUP CHAMPION: N/A - abandoned

LEADING SCORER: S. Doumbia (CSKA) - 28 Goals

    SEASON 3 - Three's Company

Season 3 marked the start of a new game cycle. FIFA 12 promised new innovations, including the Impact Engine, Tactical Defending, and Precision Dribbling. With team ratings in flux, and 2 leagues removed (Turkish & Czech), it was imperative that mangers find the right club in the team draft.

shiftee, having been forced to move from defending champions CSKA Moscow, selected Spartak Moscow and took them to a 2nd consecutive TFSerie A title. Unlike S2, he was challenged this time (for most of the season) by Zikry at Aston Villa. The two teams traded 1st place for 3/4 of the season before shiftee's high-octane offense took control down the stretch. Having just been promoted, HokieNYC achieved a 3rd place finish with Everton, finishing one point clear of juanchoCT14 and RedAL925.

In TFSerie B, CxMacx10 returned after a brief hiatus to manage Wolverhampton. He spent much of the season in 1st place, allowing only 9 goals all season (a TFSerie B record), but finished two points off the pace of champions mustang20241, who managed to take hold of 1st at the bitter end. Normally good for promotion, CxMacx10 was ordered to stay in TFS B for another season due to insufficient number of completed matches. In his stead, Friz made the jump to the top flight. At the other end of the TFS B table, it was OhDaesu19 once again making the wrong kind of headlines, setting TFSerie B records for Least Wins (0), Least Points (2), Worst Goal Difference (-34), and Least Goals For (6).

OhDaesu19's struggles in TFS B earned him relegation (yes, relegation), to the newly-minted TFSerie C. Enough interest was garnered for creation of the 3rd tier, with the likes of rschwep, redwings8831, Frenchie1916, and BigSmooth33 making their league debuts. At the end of it all, it was rschwep's powerful FC Koln offense knocking off defensive juggernaut Superpilky for the inaugural TFSerie C crown.

Also new to S3 was a revamped cup competition. Gone was the knockout-style TFL Cup in favor of the group stage & knockout format Coppa competiion. Odds-on favorite Zikry, having made it to the last 2 cup finals, once again managed to progress all the way to the end, where he squared off with Tournament Chairman Broncos218 and his Werder Bremen side. Despite struggling in TFSerie A (7th place finishers), Bremen made a 14' goal stand up, defeating "The Cup King" 1-0 in the final.

SERIE A CHAMPION: shiftee - Spartak Moscow

    SERIE B CHAMPION: mustang20241 - Corinthians

SERIE C CHAMPION: rschwep - FC Koln

TFS COPPA CHAMPION: Broncos218 - Werder Bremen

    SEASON 4 - Back-to-back-to-back

Season 4 in the TFS brought no major changes to the formula, and with each season becoming increasingly competitive, surely we would see a new champion at the top of TFSerie A by season's end...

...Not so fast, my friend. For a 3rd consecutive season, shiftee ran the table on his way to another TFS A championship. His Spartak Moscow side took home the title with potent offense, tying his own record for Most Goals For (55) and setting the mark for Goal Difference (+38). The stellar offense was led by Welliton, who set the near-unbreakable goal-scoring record at 29 Goals in a single season.

shiftee's championship did not come without a challenge, with Friz, albeit briefly, had Udinese in 1st place for all of one Matchday. RedAL925 achieved his best career finish thanks to a late-season surge (a what?) at PSV Eindhoven, while the consistently consistent juanchoCT14 at Sao Paulo finished 4th.

The race for promotion was a good one in TFSerie B, and it was bossed by the Holiday House Derby sides. CxMacx10's Wolverhampton finally made the breakthrough to TFSerie A after being deemed ineligible last season, while rschwep's @FC Koln continued their meteoric rise up the ladder, finishing 4 points off the pace. In 3rd, and returning to the top flight, was the godfather himself, Cimmy24 at Rubin Kazan.

OhDaesu19 made headlines once again, but this time for a good thing! His 1-1 draw with champions Wolves near the end of the season clinched safety for his Palermo side, staying afloat in TFSerie B for another season. It was redwings8831, however, making the wrong kinds of headlines, allowing a TFS-record 59 Goals Against on the season.

In TFSerie C, a 4-team race emerged for the promotion places. BigSmooth33 and Celtic took the pragmatic approach, with solid defense earning him the title. One point behind was Fiorentina, led by hokie79 and his even-stingier defense. Despite scoring oodles of goals (65 Goals For, +41 GD, both TFS C records), vipermansa and Montpellier could only manage 3rd place, 2 points off the pace. Falling just short was Geneseo98's Galatasaray, 2 points out of 3rd (all 4 teams would eventually be promoted due to dropouts).

Season 4 also brought us the introduction of TFSerie MVPs, won by Friz' A. Di Natale, CxMacx10's K. Doyle, and hokie79's A. Boruc (the only GK to ever win the award).

And finally, the TFS Coppa competition pitted 2 teams from the same group in the final. Zikry's Aston Villa, despite struggling in TFSerie A, went 3-0-0 in the Group Stage, then took out Broncos218, mustang20241, and vipermansa by a combined score of 10-2 (simple impressive). Meanwhile, CxMacx10, having played second fiddle to Zikry in the Group Stage, eeked out wins over hokie79, HokieNYC (on penalties), and juanchoCT14, setting up the epic rematch finale. And "The Cup King", making his 4th consecutive finals appearance, seized the title with a 90' header.

SERIE A CHAMPION: shiftee - Spartak Moscow

    SERIE B CHAMPION: CxMacx10 - Wolverhampton

    SERIE C CHAMPION: BigSmooth33 - Celtic

TFS COPPA CHAMPION: Zikry - Aston Villa

LEADING SCORER: Welliton (SPA) - 29 Goals

    SEASON 5 - Treble

Halfway through the FIFA 12 cycle, the TFSerie introduced one of the most important mechanisms to the league - the Discipline System. In its early stages it wasn't nearly as effective as it is today, but the foundation was set for the future. Also making its debut was the Manager Rating Poll. Discontinued due to poor turnout, the poll was cool while it lasted. But enough about that, let's get to the action...

Coming off an impressive three-peat, and back at CSKA Moscow after the winter transfer update, shiftee was the odds-on favorite once again to win the TFSerie A title. But 7 draws in the 1st half of the season (and 10 total, a TFSerie record) derailed those hopes, and doomed the prestigious manager to a 7th place finish.

Without the perennial champion in the picture, the TFSerie A title turned into a 4-horse race. The title was decided on the final day of the season, as Broncos218's Werder Bremen needed a 2-1 win over CxMacx10's Wolverhampton to pull level at the top of the table, forcing a 1-game playoff for the championship. And for the 2nd time, Broncos218 clinched the TFSerie A title with a 2-0 playoff win.

Broncos218 was far from done winning things. With "Cup King" Zikry making an early exit in the Round of 16 on penalties, Werder Bremen seized the opportunity, going all the way to the final (defeating CxMacx10 (again) in the semifinals) to face off against the rising offensive powerhouse at Montpellier and vipermansa. In a high-scoring affair, it was Broncos218 who completed the first-ever TFSerie double, winning the league and the cup in the same season. But he didn't stop there...

In TFSerie B, vipermansa continued his rise to the top, winning the title with no real competition. At the helm of Montpellier, the French side scored 51 goals on the season (TFSerie B record) while prolific striker Olivier Giroud managed to tie the TFSerie record for goals in a season at 29. IJGator finished in 2nd place, jumping back to the top flight after being relegated the season before (the start of a trend), while hokie79's 3rd place finish was also good for promotion.

TFSerie C was dominated by two newcomers to the league. jb_banco took RSC Anderlecht to a title, finishing one point ahead of 2nd place heznfire at Parma. Both teams earned promotion for their efforts.

But back to Broncos218, who won the first and only treble thanks to a win in the inaugural SuperCoppa competition, pitting all the past champions in an end-of-season tournament.

    SERIE A CHAMPiON: Broncos218 - Werder Bremen

SERIE B CHAMPION: vipermansa - Montpellier

    SERIE C CHAMPION: jb_banco - RSC Anderlecht

SEASON 6 - An American in London
Our last season in FIFA 12 brought one of our most successful seasons in terms of match completion and manager retention (shrugging off the summer doldrums and NCAA release), a testament to the strength this league has built up over the years. With FIFA 13 in sight, the promotion/relegation fights were ripe with intrigue.

In TFSerie A, 2 teams separated themselves from the rest of the field, as Friz (in London for the Summer Olympics) and @zirky (bouncing back from mediocre play the last 2 seasons) vied for their 1st career titles. Zikry's Ajax side was playing catchup all season, and in Matchday 20 Friz's Spartak Moscow put the nail in the coffin with a 4-0 drubbing of Ajax, finishing off a thrilling title race in the top flight. Following his promotion to TFSerieA, IJGator did not fare well in his return, managing only 1 win on the season and subsequent relegation (the string goes down).

The race for promotion in TFSerieB was just as tight, with 1st and 2nd place separated by a mere point. 1st-place Parma, led by heznfire, replaced his TFSerie C runners-up medal with a TFSerie B one, while snake3249's Sao Paulo narrowly missed out on history (more later). BESHIKTAS couldn't grab a top-3 spot once again, while Roger finished his 6th consecutive season in the middle tier.

TFSerie C wasn't much of a race, as Rubin Kazan cruised through the league schedule, allowing only 9 goals in 17 games played. krtgolfing's West Brom narrowly edged Frenchie1916's Stuttgart for 2nd place, though both teams were promoted at season's end.

But the storyline of the season was snake3249's Sao Paulo side. A 2nd place finish in TFSerie B is no small feat, but a TFS Coppa victory over "Cup King" @Zirky is certainly something to write home about. In a convincing 3-1 victory, snake3249 did just that, becoming the 1st non-TFS A manager to life the Coppa. It was just the start of cup success for Sao Paulo, who dispatched TFS A champions Spartak Moscow in the SuperCoppa final as well, completing the Cup double.

SERIE A CHAMPION: Friz - Spartak Moscow

SERIE B CHAMPION: heznfire - Parma

SERIE C CHAMPION: GovernedSpy - Rubin Kazan

TFS COPPA CHAMPION: snake3249 - Sao Paulo

    SEASON 7 - Finally

We're now into the "modern-day" TFS, where FIFA 13 brought us Attacking Intelligence, Complete Dribbling, 1st Touch Control, and Tactical Free Kicks....some of these innovations more successful than others (CALL A FOUL). In addition to these new developments, the TFS also introduced new elements to the system, including a new Cup tournament, a revamped Discipline System, All-TFS Best XI, and twitter integration (follow us @TFSerie). As is with every 1st season of the cycle, it was a race to see who could get most familiar with the new game play, making anything possible.

In top-flight action, CxMacx10 won the race, easily. Facing no real competition for most of the season, his West Ham side opened a 9-point gap by season's end to finally claim the TFSerie A title, and an MVP nod for M. Jarvis to boot. The usual suspects that normally top the table couldn't do better than 4th, as HokieNYC (2nd) and an impressive bounce-back season from vipermansa (3rd) rounded out the top of the table. Meanwhile, we had to say goodbye (for now) to Friz, whose impending wedding was rightfully given top priority.

In TFSerie B, it was BESHIKTAS turn to finally taste the champagne. After 6 straight seasons in the 2nd tier, never finishing higher than 4th and always narrowly missing out
on promotion, his QPR side broke through with a convincing 14-3-1 season, +30 GD, and subsequent promotion. Joining him in the top flight was hokie79's Marseille. And IJGator's yo-yo stayed down this time, finishing 6th overall.

With no "ringer" owner, TFSerie C was as wide open as it has ever been, and it was veteran redwings8831 who took advantage, taking PSV Eindhoven to the title, beating out MiaFLSurf's Aston Villa side. But the shock of the season came at the awards ceremony, where it was T. Matavz who took home the MVP award over presumed favorite D. Bent.

Changes were made to the TFS Coppa competition for this season. We added a secondary tournament, the Coppa Confederazione for the also-rans in the group stage, and Broncos218's Bordeaux left it late for a 2-1 win over Geneseo98's Genoa. Meanwhile, CxMacx10 (needing PKs to take down RedAL925's Real Sociedad in the semis) took home the grand prize with a 3-2 comeback win over juanchoCT14's Stade Rennais side. However CxMacx10's dream season ended there, as he was not able to complete the treble in the SuperCoppa, with TSO-P Open Cup champions Zikry taking home that prize.

SERIE B CHAMPION: BESHIKTAS - QPR

SEASON 8 - Return of the King

CSKA Moscow might not be the most prestigious name in the footballing world, but in the TFSerie, it is one of the most revered and feared teams in the history of the league. After a brief hiatus, shiftee returned to his roots in Season 8, opting to use his right of first refusal to select CSKA in the team draft. Mired in a slump of sorts, the 3-time TFS champion had not tasted the champagne for 3 seasons now, finishing a paltry 7th, 4th, and 5th before Season 8.

Back in a familiar place, with a familiar face (S. Doumbia), shiftee left no doubts with a 15-match unbeaten streak to begin the season (wins in his first 9 games) to settle the title race early. shiftee's 4th title (no one had more than 2) meant he had won half of the TFS championships on offer, a historic feat.

In the also-rans section of TFSerie A, Zikry came out of his coma to finish 2nd, level with BESHIKTAS's QPR, whose 1st season in the top flight proved fruitful. Reigning champion CxMacx10 finished disappointingly in 4th, while RedAL925, also returning to his roots at Lille, finished 5th. Speaking of finishing 3rd, last season's surprise promoted side vipermansa followed up his dream 3rd-place finish with a last-place one in Season 8, though a mass exodus kept him in the top flight another season.

In TFSerie B, juanchoCT14 claimed his first championship with Cagliari. After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, the veteran manager made no mistakes in clinching his return to top-flight action. Meanwhile, IJGator's yo-yo string was on the rise, as his 2nd place finish was good enough to join Cagliari at the top. MiaFLSurf and BigSmooth33 also made their TFSerie A debuts with promotion campaigns in Season 8.

But all the drama, intrigue, and action took place in TFSerie C, where two debutant managers quite literally duked it out for the entire season. A_Touch_Of_Class and Skill_Tricks both entered the league with lofty goals, making dreamy eyes at top-flight football. ATOC's St Etienne side went on to eventually win the title, but it wasn't without controversy, as a protested loss to S_T's I. Porto Alegre side was upheld, costing him an undefeated season (which would have been the 1st ever in TFS). Neither manager was shy about their "prowess" at the game, and they both showed it both on and off the field. A 20-point gap between 2nd and 3rd proved the former, and eventual expulsion for both managers proved the latter.

TFS Coppa also had some surprises in store, as 2 TFSerie B sides made the semifinals (4th-place Celtic and 9th-place Wolfsburg). Joining them were TFSerie C juggernaut St Etienne and TFSerie A threat Broncos218's Anzhi. While Celtic crashed out to Anzhi, Wolfsburg pulled off the upset of St Etienne, and followed it up with a stunning 1-0 win over Anzhi in the TFS Coppa final. TFSerie B wasn't done winning things though, as Aston Villa managed a 2-0 win over hokie79's Marseille side to win the Cup double for the middle tier. It was the 1st time in TFS history that a TFSerie A side did not win a Coppa championship.

Despite the Coppa failures, "Cup King" Zikry made sure TFSerie A didn't go home empty-handed, winning the TSO-P Open Cup, punching his ticket for the SuperCoppa, and going on to with that competition as well.

    SEASON 9 - A Legend Departs

Season 9 of the Tradition Futbol Serie was fairly basic in terms of gameplay action. Nearing the end of the cycle, everyone was familiar with the game, and no real surprises came up in the league table. The departure of @OhDaesu19 became the biggest storyline of the season. With over 150 games played, the long-time Palermo manager was one of the original TFSerie A members, having completed all 9 seasons with a 98% completion rate to boot. His last season ended like his 1st, near the bottom of the table, but that did not break his spirit. One day we will welcome the return of Palermo to the TFSerie, but until that day comes, we move forward.

In TFSerieA, a very interesting title race took shape. @Zikry's Udinese took charge early on only to be overtaken by eventual champions @CxMacx10 and West Ham. @shiftee's Gremio spent much of the season at the bottom of the table, until a late-season push vaulted him up to 2nd place. Meanwhile at the bottom, @BigSmooth33's 1st Serie A campaign ended quickly, as time constraints forced him to move on from the league. It was @MiaFLSurf and @vipermansa who suffered relegation in the end.

@A_Touch_Of_Class and St Etienne continued their dominance in TFSerieB, where the record books were rewritten: Most Points (50), Most Wins (16), Best Goal Difference (34), Least Goals Against (9). The incredible performance put the new manager in a rare class to earn successive promotions to the top flight. Both @LasVegasFC and @dooz earned promotion, while @ezio made a brief return to the league, only to drop out midway through.

TFSerie C was dominated by Sporting CP and @WingedHelmet, who finished the season unbeaten. It was a tight race for 2nd between @Selvy9 @Kella and @bbrech0610 but in the end all 3 earned promotion to the next level.

In the TFS Coppa, @shiftee did something he had never done before, won the cup! In a tightly-contested affair, his Gremio side needed penalties to knock off @CxMacx10's West Ham in the final. In the Confederazione bracket, @WingedHelmet backed up his unbeaten league record with a cup triumph over @rschwep. @bbrech0610 won the Open Cup to gain entrance into the SuperCoppa, which was won by @shiftee for the Cup double.

    SERIE A CHAMPION: @CxMacx10 - West Ham

    SERIE B CHAMPION: @A_Touch_Of_Class - St Etienne

    SUPERCOPPA CHAMPION: @shiftee - Gremio

LEADING SCORER: Welliton (GRE) - 23 Goals
