The Falcons are preparing to start our 50th season here in the NFL with a brand new owner taking charge. Out with the head of the mafia Arthur Blank and in with a lifelong fan and entrepreneur Danny Herring.

Herring coming in is putting is full faith in the newly hired head coach "Stone Cold" Dan Quinn.

The Falcons are poised to make a championship run this year with an underrated roster full of promising young players and talented veterans. General Manager Thomas Dimitrof went over a roster evaluation with Mr.Herring who is said to be very hands on when it comes to how he wants the roster to be shaped.

After weeks of being rumored to be in trade talks for big name HB's such as Jamal Charles, Demarco Murray, and the recently traded Lesean Mccoy. The Falcons today announced their starting halfback for the season will be.......

    Rookie HB Tevin Coleman

Coach Quinn was quoted as saying " Coleman brings homerun speed combined with the power to run over runners you look for in starting halfbacks".

While many around the league question his patience as a runner and his ability to make quick cuts when needed, the Falcons are ready to give the rookie the reins.

Dan Quinn noted today recent roster transactions.

    The team has release:

    DT Paul Soliai
    RE Tyson Jackson
    HB Terron Ward

The first two were to scheme/contract differences. Both were big signings from the Mike Smith era that never panned out and were getting paid too much to ride the bench this season.
Terron Ward was cut due to additions to the roster.

The team has come to terms on one year deals with the following players:

    QB Mark Sanchez
    HB Trent Richardson
    ROLB/RE Jared Allen

Before week two began Dan Quinn was evaluating the roster after the week 1 performance. After being disappointed with what he saw on the practice field from back up Tim Tebow, Quinn decided to bring in Mark Sanchez and carry 3 QB's on the roster.

Trent Richardson is a depth addition for Quinn. He saw the struggles of Coleman week 1 and wanted another solid back in the backfield to split carries with Coleman and Freeman.

The Falcons also came to terms with Pass Rush veteran Jared Allen. Allen a vet in the league is coming in to start at RE. With this move there is talks in the orginazation of moving Adrian Clayborn inside to more of a DT role alongside Reshede Hageman. The Falcons don't expect the Allen that was with the Vikings all those years ago but are hoping he still has enough in the tank to help this Dline compete in the trenches.

    Welcome to Atlanta!

Justin Forsett has been acquired in a trade for terms to be disclosed later. After months of speculation about the Falcons being in talk to bring a veteran halfback in for the season to lead the way they finally landed their guy. Forsett brings the quick cutting ability you look for in a zone blocking scheme and showed an immediate impact in his debut racking up over 75 yards and 3 TD's.

Will this be the balance the Falcons desperately need in their offense or will this spark of light fade?

Just in case this came up sometime in the future I wanted it to be noted somewhere.

Dezmon Southward is being allowed to start at FS this season (commissioner approved) . Southward has played the last few years as a FS in the NFL and madden and was just changed to his new position of CB this preseason by Quinn as a tryout for the coming year.

He played FS in college and was drafted as a FS and as such i requested him to be moved back and was approved.

    4-0.

A lot of people had high hopes for the Falcons entering this season and so far the Falcons have not disappointed. The Falcons have found great success behind a stingy defense that creates turnovers. Starting corners Desmond Trufant and Margiritto Beatty have combined for 7 ints through the first 4 weeks and are making their case for the best cornerback tandem in the league.

Offensively the Falcons are struggling with the running game but have taken care of the ball with the best of them as they have only given the ball away twice. Matt Ryan has led the offense throwing for 9 TD's and only 1 int to start the year. He is making himself and early candidate for the MVP award.

Special teams wise the Falcons have been average. Missing Devin Hester due to injury has taken the explosiveness away from the returning unit.

If the Falcons hope to keep up their good start they will have to find a run game. Forsett who was brough over in a trade looked good in his debut but followed that up against the Texans with a stinker. Getting hit behind the line of scrimmage multiple times throughout the day. The Falcons offensive line needs to improve its run blocking over the next few weeks.

After a season in which the Falcons exceeded all expectations the team is ready to move forward and make a dynasty. This offseason had its ups and downs for the Falcons.

Key losses: Defensive depth. The Falcons lost a lot of back up players on the defensive side of the ball. Injuries could be to be a down fall for this unit if a starting LB'er goes down.

Key pick ups: Bruce Irvin and J.R. Sweezy. A lot of people will focus on the Irvin pick up and his big contract. Pairing Irvin up with Beasley could give Atlanta the most athletic one two punch in the league rushing the passer. But the addition of young guard Sweezy gives Atlanta a more athletic run blocking G to use in their zone blocking running scheme.

The draft: The draft was some what of a disappointment for Atlanta. After trading away the 2nd and 3rd round picks to acquire Justin Forsett and Karlos Dansby for their superbowl run, the Falcons where left standing with only a first round pick in the first 4 rounds. After watching prospect after prospect drop off their board in the long wait til pick 32 the Falcons decided to sell out this year for next year. Atlanta made two trades that ended up getting Buffalo's 2nd next year along with the Chargers 2nd and 3rd next year.

The main bright spot of this draft was the Falcons acquiring the heir apparent to Matt Bryant at kicker in Ben Hoag. Hoag is a young kicker who has the ability to hit a 50 yard field goal ( I hope :>/)

The Final Countdown: The rumor mill had Atlanta hoping and praying for a QB to drop to them in the first with Matt Ryans age slowly catching up to him. At 32 the Falcons didn't see a QB on the board they believed to be the future of their franchise.

And thus Atlanta has agreed to terms on trading the Chargers freshly acquired 3rd round pick in the upcoming draft to the Dallas Cowboys for young gun Blake Bortles. Bortlemania is back in hotlanta.

Weather or not Bortles is the long term answer is still a question undecided. But this move gives the Falcons a lot more options going into the next draft with 4 picks in the first 2 rounds.

It has been a long time since an update and after reading RaiderRed90 's I feel its past due.

The past few offseasons have been a rocky road for Atlanta. Between losing legend Adrian Peterson to retirement and bringing in a new face to the franchise.

Insert Jordan Vereen. The Falcons bet the house on the Delaware QB and boy did they get what they bargained for. After struggling early in his rookie season he managed the right the ship and make the super bowl in his rookie year. Though he did fail to bring home the Lombardi he growth from the start of the season to the end was remarkable. After the failure in the superbowl the Falcons decided to make a move towards a new offense that would utilize Vereens amazing ability to extend plays and run. Coming into his 3rd year now Vereen is the face of the franchise and is hungry to bring Atlanta their 2nd championship in 5 years.

Aram Still. He was drafted after the retirement of Adrian Peterson a few years back. Stills managed to break 1000 yards his rookie season and break the 10 TD mark. He makes vicious moves and is a very slippery runner. His ability to change directions has been referred to as game changing. He is the feature back who will get a bulk of the carries but Tevin Coleman will continue to see his fair share.

    [IMG] [IMG]
    (fuck picture sizes)

The Falcons wanted to add youth to the weakest part of their defense and that was their line backing core. Picture on the left Sam Lawson from Texas A&M. Many scouts said he was one of the best coverage linebackers to come out of college in recent memory with above average ability to recognize the plays from the get go.

On the right from USC MLB Alex Jackson. Jackson often not talked about because he came was chosen the same year the Falcons drafted Vereen. Jackson suffered an injury his senior year which saw his original first round status drop into the 2nd. Jacksons ability to find and bring down the ball carrier was already NFL level at the time of the draft. His major concerns was possibly re-injury. His rookie season saw him miss 5 games early due to an undisclosed injury but saw him return and help him lead the defense to the Superbowl. His 2016 season saw him go to his first Pro Bowl after playing all season.

These aren't all the key players that I have drafted the past few years but they are the foundation upon which the rest of my team has been built around.

But if you are talking about big moves. If you are talking about how the Falcons are trying to win another Superbowl this year then you have to bring up two of the biggest names in the NFL joining Atlanta via trades.

Dan Quinn was finally able to land the hard hitting safety he loves when he was able to help broker a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to bring over Kam "boomboom" Chancellor. Kam brings a playmaking safety to the Falcons defense that was sorely missing til his arrival. But perhaps the biggest addition to this team since we last spoke outside of Jordan Vereen......

    Megatron.

Calvin Johnson was on his way out of Detroit due to his age, regressing athletic ability, and huge contract. Atlanta aggressively pursued CJ81 after they felt their offense was exposed in the Superbowl when Julio Jones went down with an injury and they watched their lead slowly go away as their offense sputtered. Enter in the best possible number 2 receiver you could ask for. Johnson doesn't bring home run speed with him but he does bring an ability to get separation on his routes and make catches other receivers could only dream of.

I would say I was able to balance the win now personality I like to maintain with adding pieces that leave this team set to contend in the future.
