That's a negative from my end. As I mentioned, I'm not approving trades where you guys are dumping those garbage contracts on the CPU without either giving more or taking worse contracts than Okafor's back in return.

BTW - you only need approval from myself and Bond on trades.

    Johnson's is worse - it's for 5 years at $18 mil.

And all you are giving them is a 2nd round pick to eat an additional $50+ million in salary.

Yeah but thats not that big of a difference. Im extremely limited on the teams i can trade with because of that contract, Okafor's was the largest i could find and was reasonable trade (overall-wise). I'm just trying to find a center, and Johnson is the only player i can afford to get rid. What would you suggest i do to make it seem fair?

Then the deal definitely doesn't work. I wouldn't approve the deal if it were Johnson for Okafor straight up.

Did you read the thread I posted about trades that are basically salary dumps?

I'm trying to get rid of Johnson because i like crawford more and i need a center. Am i wasting my time trying to trade Johnson because of his contract or what? I can't do an even trade because all the people that get paid as much as johnson are higher overall. And the majority of the centers in the league are low overall anyways.

For what it's worth, Okafor's contract isn't a bad contract when you look at what starting centers get paid.

    Noah - $11 mil/year
    Chandler - $9 mil/year
    Kaman - $12 mil/year

His contract is right in that range and is about what you have to pay for a 73 OVR C.

You can try posting options for us to review, but there is a reason that the majority of basketball experts chuckled when ATL signed Johnson to that deal. When you are paying a guy on the downside of his career that kind of money, he's going to be hard to move.

From my perspective, I doubt I'd approve a deal unless you were throwing in one of your other players on a more reasonable deal (like Horford or Smith) into some sort of package to get other players on shorter term contracts. You could also talk to one of the user teams with cap room or with other bad contracts and see if they'd be interested in taking him off your hands. For example, I know ryalaman is looking to trade Lewis and his contract.

You picked ATL knowing that you had that contract. We aren't just going to let you jettison it on a CPU team.

Plus, you'd need to give NO a center back in the deal. Having just played them, they have ZERO size outside of Okafor and I wouldn't see them trading him unless they are getting a serviceable big man in return.

    How about this CPU Trade

    Hawks trade

    1st rd pick
    C Zaza Pachulia 60 ovr 27yrs 2yrs 10M C +
    SF Marvin Williams 65 25 2 yrs 15.79M C+
    C Etan Thomas 56 33 1yr 1.4M

    Mavs Trade

    C Tyson Chandler 70 29 1 yr 8M
    C Brenden Haywood 65 32 OVR 5 yrs 45.37M
    C Ian Mahinmi 46 25 1yr 884k

Hawks get a starting and backup center while the Mavs get a 1st round draft pick, two replacements at Center, and a young excellent shooting forward that can play SF and PF.
The Center Ian Mahinmi is thrown in to make the deal work, because Mavs would have too many players otherwise.

    Not approved on my end.

A non lottery 1st round pick isn't enough for the Mavs to give you two C's rated higher or equal to the one you are giving them in return. If you are looking for a backup C I think you'll have more luck going after one on a bad team rather than one on a playoff contender, especially if you are offering back guys like Williams and Pachulia.

Think there is anyway i could work Johnson into that trade instead of the 1st and williams without it being considered a salary dump? Would make the trade seem more logical

I'd have to see the deal, but my gut is that it would be hard to view any deal involving JJ/Marvin Williams/Pachulia and their respective multiple-year deals as anything but a salary dump.

Do you have the ability to veto trades? Like, if i were to propose that now, since it takes 24 hours to go through, would that be ok? If you change your mind just veto or i'll withdraw the trade.

JFace907 is right. Under no circumstances should someone enter into a trade that hasn't been approved by Bond and I.

EDIT-doing so will result in a penalty to be determined.

I also don't really want to have a fire sale on the Mavs yet. If Ryno hasn't joined by closer to the trade deadline then I'd probably be fine with that deal.
