Game complete...gotta head to work...will update tonight
Great, video isn't uploading to EA!
Auburn Stale In Opener
Auburn began it's 2010 campaign with a less than inspiring win over Arkansas State 21-3. *"We had some jitters with it being the first game and that's OK. *But these guys need to realize that if we play this way once conference play begins, were gonna get beat," said Coach Onaradio34. *Auburn actually trailed 3-0 in the 2nd before getting it's first TD of the season by Mario Fanin on a 14yd swing pass.
Arkansas State got the ball first and picked up a 1st down before the Tiger D forced a punt. *The offense shot itself in the foot with a big holding call that negated a 20 yd run by McCalebb and goes 3 and out. *ASU would flip the field position with a 41yd pass completion. *3 straight incompletions and a missed 53yd FG would give the Tigers the ball back. *After an 18yd run by McCalebb and a 19yd strike to Burns, Auburn is looking good. *On the next play, ASU gets pressure on Newton who takes a lick right before he releases the ball and it flutters right into an ASU DL's hands who returns way down into Auburn territory.
ASU can't get anything going and settles for a 32yd FG to go up 3-0. *The Tigers are able to sustain a drive that is capped by the already mentioned Fanin TD.
ASU moves the ball down into Tiger territory before being stalled. *ASU, instead of punting, decides to try a 60yd FG. *It's just short and into the waiting arms of Dyer who returns it to the 44 with 28 seconds remaining in the half. *After 2 incompletions, Newton finds Burns open over the middle and Burns outruns the secondary to the end zone for a 56yd TD. *
Extra point makes it 14-3 at the half.
The Tiger D steps up and really shuts ASU down while the offense plugs away with the ground game. *Auburn would add another TD in the 3rd by way of a 1yd plunge by McCalebb. *No other points were scored as the Tigers coast to Victory.
Player of the game went to Newton for his underwhelming 8-20 159yd, 2TD, 1INT performance. *He also chipped in with 38yds rushing on 7 car.
Auburn moves to 1-0 (0-0) with a date aginst Mississippi State next week.
Mississippi State knocks off Auburn in OT
The Auburn Tigers didn't take their coaches warning seriously and now Coach Onaradio34's words are proving prophetic. He warned them that another lackluster outing would cost them against SEC competition, and here the Tigers are, 0-1 in SEC play.
"They physically whipped us and were mentally stronger in the nasty weather. Our Offensive line was dreadful, our quarterback was rattled and our WR's couldn't catch. Defensively, we gave up some points but were put in bad situations all day. We bowed are necks when we had to and allowed our offense to claw us back into the game, but it wasn't enough."
QB Cameron Newton threw a pick on his first pass attempt and was left the game with an injury on the same play. Backup N. Claude was 18-38 for 362yds, 2TD's and 4INT's. How he survived the whole game is a miracle as he was constantly being hit over and over.
Miss State scored 20 unanswered points to take a 34-17 lead with 50 secs left in the 3rd. Auburn stormed back to tie the game at 34 all to send the game to OT. Miss State got the ball first and scored in three plays by way of a 17yd TD catch. Auburn immediately moved the ball down to the 3 but was stuffed on 4 consecutive runs between the tackles to end it.
28 POINT 3RD SAVES AUBURN
The Auburn Tigers returned home after a crushing OT defeat in Starkville. Clemson was not the type of opponent Auburn wanted to see and it showed in the 1st half. "They jumped all over us. It was Miss State all over again times 10. Give the kids credit for a helluva comeback." said Coach Onaradio34 after the game.
Clemson could make a 2010 highlight tape from the 1st qtr alone. Kyle Parker was dead on and the D suffocating. On Clemson's opening drive, Parker found WR Dye for a 41yd TD reception. Cam Newton, back after being knocked out of last weeks game, picks right where he left off with another interception. Kyle Parker and Clemson marched it down using their no huddle offense culminating in a 12yd TD pass to WR Jones. Auburn showed some signs of offensive life before the drive stalled and punted back to Clemson. Once again it's Parker to Jones for another Clemson TD and a 21-0 lead at the end of one.
Auburn moves the ball down and manages to momentarily stop the bleeding with a 36yd FG by Byrum. Then the unthinkable happens (there is no way to explain this and act like it could happen in real life. Was on the lucky end of the QB playaction glitch and got a safety). After receiving the free kick, Auburn is back in business and moving the ball again. On 3rd and goal from the 10, Newton breaks out of a sack and scrambles out of the pocket and into the end zone. Tiger Stadium erupts as Auburn has moved to within 9 at 21-12.
Auburn's D, renewed and motivated by the deafening stadium, forces another Clemson punt. Auburn is rolling down the field. Newton seems like a different player, making great reads on the ground and through the air. He sprints outside on an option and is indecisive, he tries a late pitch after taking a hit and...pitches it BACKWARDS towards the middle of the field into a sea of Clemson defenders. (Thats what I get for such a horridly late pitch). 28-12. The crowd is silenced. Coach Onaradio34 sensing Newton's confidence has been shattered decides he's gonna show some faith and let Newton try to generate some points with 1 minute remaining in the half. Bad, bad, bad. Newton throws another INT. Kyle Parker puts a dagger into Auburn hearts with his 4th TD of the half with 7 seconds remaining. 35-12.
After a decent drive ends with yet another Newton INT, Auburn senses they are through. Auburn's D bows up and gets a pick of it's own to bring a few leaving fans back into the stadium. Auburn capitalizes with a 7yd TD catch by Adams with just under 4 minutes left in the 3rd. OPEN THE FLOOD GATES. A Clemson fumble sets Auburn up with a short field. Moments later Kodi Burms in standing in the end zone after hauling in a 17yd pass from Newton. Clemson gains a couple first downs before being faced with a crucial 3rd down. Parker sets up but can't pull the trigger before he is hit and loses the ball. SS McNeil scoops and races 50 yards for an Auburn TD to make it 33-35. McCalebb plunges in from just outside the goalline to give Auburn it's first lead of the game 40-35.
2 more Byrum FG's give Auburn a 46-35 leas with 2:30 to play. Clemson would score a TD with 1:30 left but are unable to recover the onside attempt. Auburn runs out the clock to hold on 46-43
Auburn moves to 2-1 (0-1) with a South Carolina coming to the Plains next week.
some points! nice
Updated...longest summary ever for me.
Auburn Holds Off South Carolina
The Auburn Tigers seem to have some momentum after their comeback win over Clemson. Much to the chagrin off its state citizens, Auburn has now defeated schools from South Carolina in consecutive weeks. The Tigers produced solid performance in a 17-7 win. Coach Onaradio34 was a very proud coach, "That was a very good performance by our kids. To completely go from a team with no running game and a turnover prone passing game, to this was really great to see. If we continue to play like today, the SEC is within our grasp."
After forcing a Gamecock punt on it first series, Auburn went to work right away. New starting RB Mario Fanin and QB Cam Newton ran the read-option with alot of success. Once Carolina decided to force the issue, Newton went to the air and found WR Burns streaking down the middle of the field wide open.
Carolina would answer back however after a nice long drive capped by a 1yd run by Lattimore.
Neither teamcould find much success as the only points came from a 25yd FG by Byrum. 10-7 Aunurn at the half.
Auburn receives the kickoff and gains a 1st down. Then, the burst that Auburn fans had been expecting all year from McCalebb finaly happened...only by Fanin. A 66yd TD scamper right up the middle on another bueatiful read-option.
Not much else would transpire as Auburn's D shuts out South Carolina for the rest of the game.
Player of the Game: Mario Fanin, RB...In his first start, Fanin produces 130yds, 1TD on 20 car.
Auburn is now 3-1 (1-1) with a big showdown in Lincoln against #5 ranked Nebraska next week.
BURNS CRUSHES NEBRASKA'S DREAMS
The Auburn Tigers pulled of an impressive upset of #4 ranked Nebraska 30-17. It was the Kodi Burns show as the Senior WR accounted for 3 Auburn TD's. "He was amazing," said Coach Onaradio34. "To think, he was afterthought to many Tiger Fans. The guy not skilled enough to be a QB and not athletic enough to be a WR. He's a senior and after the Miss St game, he took it upon himself to carry his weight in this offense."
It wouldn't take Burns long to impact the game. After picking up a couple 1st downs on the opening series, QB Cam Newton lofted a bomb for Burns to run under for a 41yd TD. Burns had the safety beat by 3 yards.
The teams trade FG's with the half winding down. Nebraska makes a march down the field trying to tie the game before the half. With :35 left, QB Lee does just that on a 10yd option keeper that he deftly cut back up. Once again Coach Onaradio34 rolls the dice to get some points. A post route and a curl route later, Tiger kicker Byrum is booming a 45yd FG through the uprights for a 13-10 halftime lead.
Nebraska has a promising drive stall and is forced to punt. On a 3rd and short, Nebraska sells out on a blitz only have Newton squirt through for a 58yd run down the the Cornhusker 6.
On the next play, Burns strikes again on a WR sweep.
At the end of the 3rd, Auburn lead 20-10.
Another Byrum FG extends Auburns lead to 23-10 with 5 minutes left to play. Nebraska wasn't done yet though. The Cornhuskers drive the ball downfield looking to cut the lead to 6. Auburn's D made a fight of it, but Nebraska's offense was just too good to be held any longer. A 27yd TD pass from Lee makes the score 23-17. It was now the Cornhusker D's turn to come up with a big play. After Newton connects on a nice 20+ yard completion, Auburn goes 3 and out and is forced to punt. Nebraska moves the ball once again with a fast paced passing attack before turning it over after an incompletion on 4th and short.
Unfortunately for Auburn Nebraska stills has all 3 timeouts, so they must get a 1st down to preserve the win. Coach Onaradio34 decides to put it in thehands of Burns once again on the same play as previous rushing TD. Burns finds room around the corner and looks to be bottled upon the sideline before he sheds two Nebraska defenders and races down the sidleine. 1 man to beat and burns sets up a block by another WR and gets into the clear. 58yd TD...BALL GAME.
Player of the Game: WR Kodi Burns, 3 rec 68yds 1 TD, 3 car 71 yds 2TD's.
Another Big Day By Burns Lifts #25 Auburn To Victory
The Auburn Tigers slid into the Top 25 this week and looked to keep its 3 game winning streak alive. Jr. QB Cameron Newton regressed back to his early season form going 4-11 for 80 yards, 1 TD and 3 picks. Luckily, Kodi Burns was on the field as well. The Sr. WR accounted for 2 more TD's and now has had a rushing and receiving TD in 3 straight games.
Auburn's offense was held in check for most of the day by Newton's inaccuracy and some great plays by the Kentucky D. Kentucky would get on the board after recovering a fumble by Dyer on a punt. The 45yd FG would be good enough until 1 remained in the half and Burns came down with a pass from Newton for a 4yd TD to give Auburn a 7-3 halftime lead. Kentucky had some opportunities, or should I say prayers, as they tried 3 other FG's all from 54 or longer.
Coach Onaradio34 is quickly becoming known for his halftime adjustments as Auburnhas scored on all but 2 of their opening 2nd half possession. This time it was a 61yd run by Fanin off the read-option.
The score would stay at 14-3 until late in the 3rd. Kentucky QB Morgan Newton connected with McCaskill for a 21yd TD to cut the lead to 14-10. Kentucky's D rose to the challenge in the 4th, stopping Auburn and getting their offense back on the field 2 straight possession. With right on 1 minute left, Kentucky faced a 4th and 18 from the Auburn 25yd line. The Tiger D stands tall and forces an incompletion.
Kentucky still has 2 timeouts remaining, so Auburn must get a first down to seal the victory. Who do you think will get the ball...it's Burns. The WR sweep catches kentucky off guard as only 1 Wildcat has a shot at bringing Burns down. He fails and Burns is off to the races for a 69yd game clinching TD. (The highlight for this play starts off with Burns already streaking for the endzone, so just said screw it).
Auburn improves to 5-1 (2-1) and plays host to Arkansas next week.
ARKANSAS DOMINATES AUBURN 16-7
Auburn came into the game riding a 3 game winning streak. Right from the ouset Arkansas showed it had come to play, not with its high-powered offense, but with a stifling underrated D. Auburn was held to 211 yds of total offense and once again gave the ball away. The only bright spot for Auburn was the continued solid play of RB Fanin. Since taking over the starting position in week 4, Fanin has gained 384 yds on just 50 car for an average of 7.68 yds/car. His 57yd run in the 2nd qtr setup Auburn's only TD and was pretty much their only highlight.
Coach Onaradio34 addressed the Auburn media after the game: "Considering Arkansas held a 23:38 to 11:10 advantage in time of possession, I think our D did an amazing job of keeping us within striking distance. They just couldnt get off the field. When a team has 62% more number of plays than you, well, its just bad. Cam Newton is still our starting QB, there will be no contoversy with this team. We are jjust gonna have to simplify the offense and lean more on the run."
Auburn drops to 5-2 (2-2) for the season and now needs alot of help to make it to Atlanta. A win next week vs rival LSU will go along way in deciding the Tiger's postseason destiny.
