    AVID

    Hey guys,

I've been playing around with AVID since the start of the season. Now, they don't have a roster download yet, but if you're willing to punch in your roster, you can do quite a bit.

I just posted a set of stats that I pulled directly from AVID. See my summary posts for a look. I hit a button, copied the text, and posted it. That's it. AVID lets you manipulate the tables and save a template. Once you get it looking how you want, it generates each new table for you. You input stats, but it's in a key-and-tab kind of setup. No more looking through code. It tracks absolutely everything.

Click HERE to see what I'm talking about. It really makes things easy if you're willing to put in just a little time. It even has places for game write-ups and weekly posts (which I use to track recruiting. All of which can be copied and pasted here. Once the setup is in place, it's in place for good, so you don't have to worry about all the repetitive stuff about reporting.

I think I'm ready to endorse it. It's a little time-heavy on the front end, but I think I have it worked out now.

    AG

I used avid in for my offline dynasties last year and it's great. One of the best things about it is when you advance seasons. It automatically removes your SRs, advances all non-redhshirted underclassman and even keeps your redshirts that you noted at the beginning of the year as their same year (IE. FR -> FR(RS)).

The only reason I haven't started it up yet is because I've been waiting for the default rosters, but maybe I should just bear down and enter my 2 teams manually.

I agree, it's the front end work that's keeping me back...I was about to do it and thought I had to enter all of my guys ratings but realized I don't. All it needs is names.

I'll do it soon enough, I'm sure...

I'm telling you guys, AVID makes this so much easier. Spend the front-end time, and the rest is easy. Look what I can post with just one click, and I can edit this code within AVID, so every report after the edit comes out looking just how I want it to. This is the week 7 stuff from the season front page, unedited:

    Buckeye News
    Superman Arrives!

That's right, folks - Kasey Gilbert is officially a Buckeye!

The 6'2", 248 pound middle linebacker (#1 MLB, #7 OVR) from Strongsville signed his letter of intent today, and the Buckeyes instantly became a better team. This kid is an absolute monster - speed (B-), tackling (B+), block shedding (B), hit power (B), stamina (B) ... and he isn't even a freshman yet. Here's what Coach Griffin had to say:

"Well, Kasey's been the top guy on our board for quite some time now, and we couldn't be happier to have him. With Austin (Spitler) graduating, we need help in the middle, so Kasey might just play right away. Freshmen don't do that very much here at OSU, but Kasey's got something special. Anyone who's seen him play can tell you that."

The signing couldn't come at a better time for the Buckeyes. With the recent change to a 3-4 defensive scheme, and only sophomore Etienne Sabino slotted in the MLB spot for next year, Gilbert might just walk into a starting job, though most expect fellow frosh Justion McConnell from DC to challenge for the job. Also, fellow potential Buckeye and Brook Park native Shawn McCarty (#13 MLB, #220 OVR) might just have enough to make it a three man race, but he'll have to sign before he can take a shot at Superman.

Expect to hear the Buckeye faithful chanting KG's name for the next four years or so.

Do you have to hand input the stats Archie?

Yeah, you do have to hand input them. For that reason I will not use avid. I used it back when it originally came out to keep tabs on my offline stuff, but I am not into the stats aspect that much. I'll be sticking with my blog.

Any stats nuts out there, this is the way to go!

That's certainly the biggest downside of Avid. I think it'd be more time consuming to enter all of the stats of every game than it is to do the blog. Also, you need to do the records and polls every week too, if you want that info.

If I ever get down to having just my OU team here in the E League, I'll consider inputting all of this stuff into Avid. Right now, I feel kind of stressed to get up a good USM report as well as all of the things I want to do for OU.

I just dropped a league because I dont have time for so many. I may do this next year or so. Depends where my Aggies dynasty goes.

The stat input is manual, but it's a tab and enter setup, so it's faster for me than copying the tables from my last post, then pasting and manually deleting the old info and replacing it with the new. And we can always choose to input some stuff, and not other stuff. Ex. Player stats are not required to post game writeups. If all you're doing is posting team stats, it's a lot faster. I simply choose to input more than that.

So, it's slower, but only if you dive into the full capability of it. If you take some stuff, and leave other stuff, it's much faster.

I wish EA would allow you to export stats (send to email), then you could automate this stuff.

The sad thing is they have the logic in place. It emails you ranked online stats. If they sent that out in XML, CSV, or virtually any other format an aspiring guy could parse it and make a dynasty tracker.

But that would compete with anything they do on site on easportsworld.

It has nothing to do with this discussion really, but can the stats be emailed for online dynasty games? I only get them for ranked online games.

I just entered Michigan's roster into Avid and I think I'll go back and do the stats for my games so far this season to get caught up or maybe I'll just hold off until the end of the season and enter my season totals (which is how I did my offlines last year).

Does everyone here enter ratings too? If so, do you do all of them or just the major ones like speed, awareness, throw power, etc.?

I only do OVR and SPD. 1 bad thing about avid is that when you advance, your players don't advance in ratings (since of course avid doesn't know how they'll progress) so if you want to keep those updated, you'll need to update them every year. Because of that, I only enter them at the beginning so I know what they started as. This way, when Forcier is a SR and rated 99, I can see that he started out as an 83.

I've finally broken down and started up an avid page for this dynasty. I'm halfway through entering my results and I'm really liking what I see so far. There are a lot more reports and stuff than I remember seeing in the past. It's likely that this'll end up being my main thing with my blog secondary now.

Okay, can I officially say I do not like it when E League teams have an Avid page instead of a blog? If so, I'm saying it...Not that I don't respect the stat nerds and the work it takes to keep an Avid dynasty updated really well, but it kind of kills the joy of looking at a game summary for me. I look at the stats some, the major ones, but I really like the pictures, vids, etc.

    I'm just sayin'....

I add pics and vids. I don't just add as much as I used to. And the stats and such are my favorite part. I suppose I could keep up a blog with the stuff I put on avid, but I just don't want to be any more redundant than I have to.

  24. I have been using it a little and I like the stats but I dont like my game reports. Too bland. Personally for me I like the look of say, AG's last two game reports on this forum. Colorful and had me interested.

I'm not asking anyone to do extra stuff, I'm just saying that I'm much more interested in reading things Jello or Dat put up on their blogs b/c they look really good and have pics, vids, etc. Personal preference. I think Avid is great for individuals...I mean, I have no doubt you love your Avid Archie b/c anytime you want you can go look at all those stats, etc. and recall great games, etc. down to the smallest detail, but I just love the typical blog type of summary.
