    Ka-Boom!(Week 1)
Ball State rips apart Florida Atlantic in a 49-7 season-opening victory.

In an impressive showing that involved a record breaking play, Ball St. dismantles Florida Atlantic in the home opener.

Ball State's pass defense made today a nightmare for Florida Atlantics quarterbacks forcing a staggering 6 interceptions, 3 of which were taken to the house. One of these with 41 seconds remaining in the 1st half, was an NCAA record setting 97 yards by Joshua Howard CB #46.

The offense sputtered out of the gate, fumbling on the opening drive, but senior MiQuale Lewis carried the team on his back with an impressive 192 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns with 13 yards receiving and 91 yards in the punt and kick return game.

Coach shibdib was quoted as saying "I'm proud of the way the boys played today, but this is just the beginning of the road to a MAC title."

When asked about some news on the recruiting front his reply was, "We have a young team, so with 0 needs and only 8 seniors on our 68 man roster we are limited to only 10 scholarships this season. I don't wanna give away any secrets but improving our offensive line is a big priority to me."

Defensive Game Ball - Joshua Howard

    KO'ed(Week 3)
The Cardinals surrender to Purdue 32-7.

In a complete 360 from the week 1 win, Ball State is embarrassed by the Big Ten basement dweller Purdue. The only plus I can come up with for this game is that they escaped without any injuries to key players.

Starting QB Kelly Page was a mind numbing 7 for 33 with 0 TD's and 2 INT's with a whopping 60 yards passing. Stud HB MiQuale Lewis could only muster 29 yards on 13 attempts.

Defensively the Cardinals did not fare much better, surrendering 503 total yards with 315 coming through the air. Their inability to get a single sack undoubtedly made it an easy day for Purdue.

Coach shibdib was quoted as saying "The Big Ten is a solid conference top to bottom, we went out there thinking Purdue was a bunch of pushovers and quite honestly we got punched in the mouth. Next week is another tough game against a Big Ten opponent in Iowa, and I certainly hope the players take this as a wake up call."

When asked about some news on the recruiting front, Coach shibdib in an apparent effort to help his cause said the following, "We're actively pursuing players players of high calibre to play for this team, and im highly interested in bringing QB Joe Thompson (3*) to Ball State."

Offensive Game Ball - No One
Defensive Game Ball - No One

NOTE: Week 4 report of IOWA is unavailable.

    38-6! (Week 5)
Ball State hangs 38 points on the Chippewas.

With last weeks 52-7 beat down by Iowa behind them, Ball St. opened up the MAC schedule by playing the Central Michigan Chippewas. The game started off badly enough, with starting QB Kelly Page going down with a broken vertebrae which will sideline him for the rest of the season. Freshman(RS) QB Aaron Mershman stepped in and proved he may be what the teams offense has been missing.

Aaron Mershman went a solid 10 for 13, with 213 yards and 0 INT's. He also contributed with his feet, getting into the end zone once. A solid game for any QB, especially one who's never had a collegiate snap. Star HB MiQuale Lewis still sidelined with an injury was replaced with Cory Sykes who had a solid 93 yards on 23 touches.

Defensively the Cardinals played solid both against the run and the pass. Forcing 3 INT's and 2 Fumbles. Numerous goal-line stands in the first half kept the game close and let their offense get going.

Coach shibdib was quoted as saying "It's great to start off conference play with a big win, I expect the boys to carry this into next weeks game and move us to 2-0 in the MAC. Obviously losing a starting QB is never in the plans, but I'm fully confident in Aaron."

When asked about some news on the recruiting front "No commits to report, you guys will be the first to know."

Offensive Game Ball - Aaron Mershman (10/13, 213 Yards Passing 3 Total TD)
Defensive Game Ball - Zac Jordan (2 Tackles, 1 INT, 1 FF)

    Cardinals Improve to 3-2(Week 6)
Move to 2-0 in MAC Play

Ball State came out running against Western Michigan, and it may surprise you when you hear who carried most of the load.

In his first full game as a starter, QB Aaron Mershman struggled a bit going 11 for 35 with 1 TD and 2 INT for 186 yards. Backup HB Cory Sykes went down injured after just 3 touches. So instead of bringing in injured starter MiQuale Lewis, Coach Shibdib put 2 way player Joshua Howard in at HB. Howard, normally a CB, finished the game with an impressive 237 Yards Rushing, with 1 TD and contributed 2 Tackles on the other side of the ball. Struggling kicker Steven Schott went 4 for 4 today and is turning into a reliable source of points for the cardinals.

Defensively the Cardinals played very solid, giving up just barely 50 yards rushing, and a respectable 241 yards passing. Freshman LB Kevin Obyc finished with 3 Solo Tackles, 1 Sack, and an INT.

Coach shibdib was quoted as saying "Great game by both sides, and a great start going 2-0 in conference play. Big game next week against another Michigan school, definitely looking forwards to finishing the sweep of the 3 Michigan schools in the MAC with a W."

Their was no signings still to report on the recruiting front, leaving many to start to worry.

Offensive Game Ball - Joshua Howard (HB/CB) 237 Yards, 1 TD, 2 Tackles
Defensive Game Ball - Kevin Obyc (LB) 3 Tackles, 1 Sack, 1 INT

    Unfriendly Confines (Week 7)
Eastern Michigan invades Ball State's turf and walks away with a victory.

Ball St's desires to go undefeated in the MAC disappear with a defeat at home against Eastern Michigan. A poor showing on defense masks an impressive offensive performance by the Cardinals.

Aaron Mershman went 12 for 29, with 223 yards 1 TD and 2 INT's. A mixture of bad decision making, and bad play calling doomed this young QB's chances at tying up the game in the final 2 minutes. Star HB MiQuale Lewis had his touches limited after being noticeably slowed by his lingering injury, finishing with 75 Yards on 11 touches and 2 TD's. His numbers are a bit misleading as majority of his yardage came on a 52 Yard scamper in the first quarter, which following that he became largely ineffective. 2 way player Joshua Howard then picked up the remainder of the touches and had a solid game with 119 yards on 10 touches with 1 TD. It's safe to say Ball St. got caught up in the heat of the moment at time, relying too much on the young QB and getting away from what has won them games.

Defensively the Cardinals struggled against the run, allowing HB Dwayne Priest to run for 211 yards on 20 touches, and a staggering 5 TD's. Their lack of speed at the LB position is apparent, and rumor is Coach Shibdib is looking into changing schemes in an effort to hide this weakness.

Coach Shibdib was quoted as saying "Nobody likes to lose, especially when the losses are at home, and especially when the losses are home conference games. Myself and the coordinators take responsibility for this game, we didn't adapt to their offensive style, and we got away from running the ball which is how this team wins games."

When asked about some news on the recruiting front "John Jude FB/HB 2* commited this week, along with a few unnamed soft commits. John has a possibility to play at both FB and spell at HB with his speed."

Offensive Game Ball - Joshua Howard HB/CB (119 Yards Rushing, 1 TD, 3 Tackles)
Defensive Game Ball - Theon Dixon LB (4 Tackles, 1 Sack)

Dont Call Us an Underdog (Week 1 - Season 2)
Ball State comes up short in a heart-pounding game vs. Indiana. 31-38

In the first game of Coach Shibdibs 2nd season at the helm, Ball States new look offense came out firing against the heavily favored Hoosiers. A bad call on an onside kick cost the team dearly, while successfully recovering with 2 minutes to go only to have it overturned on a call that coulda went either way.

Kelly Page, in his first game back after being knocked out in the 2nd game last season, completed 17 of 38 for 387 yards with 4 TD's and 0 INT's. The HB duo of McAfee and Sykes combined for a total of 35 yard and 0 TD's, so its pretty obvious the direction the coach is moving his offense. And who can blame him, with his stud QB and a very solid receiving corps Ball State has the potential to put up big numbers in the passing game. They actually out gained the Hoosiers 557 to 457 in yardage, but shot themselves in the foot with 2 costly fumbles.

Defensively the Cardinals played solid, stuffing the run and keeping them in the game. Some lapses on pass defense against the faster Hoosier receivers cost them in the end tho. But all in all not a bad first look at the newly converted 4-3 defense.

Coach Shibdib was quoted as saying "I'm happy with the way the boys played today. Our running game needs some work, but thats not a surprise to me. Our passing game came out solid and Kelly played the way I expect him to play every game this year. To all out fans out there, we mean business this season."

When asked about some news on the recruiting front "I plan on pursuing some higher tier prospects this season, and plan on following my same strategy of targeting 10 men at a time to maximize the recruiting ability."

    Offensive Game Ball - Kelly Page QB (17 of 38 for 387 yards with 4 TD's and 0 INT's)
Defensive Game Ball - Travis Freeman LB (6 Tackles, 1 Sack, 1 INT)

    By A Razor's Edge (Week 3 - Season 2)
Ball State slips past Midshipmen 24-21.

Following the week 2 bye, the Cardinals looked to bounce back after a close loss to the Hoosiers in their game against the Navy Midshipmen.

Kelly Page, gave another solid performance and solidified his position over last years fill in Aaron Mershman, completing 14 of 32 for 328 yards with 1 TD's and 1 INT's. With HB Sykes out injured, McAfee rushed for 44 yards and 1 TD. So for the second game in a row, Coach Shibdib put the game on Page's shoulders and he didnt fail to impress. His 1 INT seemed to come out of his hand weird and landed nowhere near his intended receiver, but besides that miscue he looked as solid as can be. Receivers Hill and Orsbon each finished with 100+ yards receiving. With Orsbon having the catch of the game with 40 seconds left to go up in traffic on 3rd down and make a big reception to put the team in the redzone. Kicker Steven Schott then won the game as time expired with a 17 yarder that wasnt much more then an extra point.

Defensively the Cardinals largely shut down the potent navy running attack, limiting big plays and forcing quite a few three and outs. The special teams had the one blunder of the day, allowing the midshipmen to return a kick to tie the game in the 4th.

Coach Shibdib was quoted as saying "1-1 Is a great way to start a season, the boys know that this is just the beginning tho and that our biggest games are the ones we've yet to play.

When asked about some news on the recruiting front "No news to report, quite a few quality players very close to committing tho."

    Offensive Game Ball - Kelly Page QB (14 of 32 for 328 yards with 1 TD's and 1 INT's)
Defensive Game Ball - Adam Morris LB/DE (7 Tackles, 1 Sack)
