Bears tighten up secondary, receivers in FA(Hixon caught 7 touchdowns for the Giants last year.) Chicago, IL The Bears had a quiet but productive 24-hour FA Sunday night through Monday, claiming WR Domenik Hixon and veteran SS Gerald Sensabaugh. The signing of Hixon was expected as the Bears needed one more receiver to round out a group that consists of Johnny Knox, Devin Hester, Earl Bennett and Sam Hurd. Jerry Angelo had this to say about the Hixon deal. "We expect Hixon to get a lot of playing time as our 3 or 4 receiver. Johnny has progressed a lot this offseason and we expect him to be our #1 this year. He had a wonderful season last year, as did Devin before the injury. The biggest key to our receiving group this year is how Earl Bennett and Domenik Hixon push each other in camp. That should be a great battle for the slot position on the depth chart." Sensabaugh signing with the Bears more than likely signifies the end of Chris Harris's career as a Bear. Harris was originally drafted by the Bears, traded to Carolina after the 2005 Superbowl and then brought back in 2010. Chris Harris commented on the signing via his twitter "I LOVE CHICAGO AND THE BEARS ORGANIZATION, BUT IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON." he then later tweeted "Good luck to Sensabaugh and Antrel Rolle, the new safety combo in Chicago. See you on the field Bears!" The Bears also reached deals with a tight end, center, and two guards. This opens up room for the Bears to draft BPA players instead of positions of need, something the Bears really wanted to do since they don't draft until the end of the 4th round. Overall, a decent FA period for the Bears who got what they needed at a fair price. Up next? The draft! BEAR DOWN BEARS FANS!
