Cincinnati, Ohio | The Bengals opened the season on a road trip, that ended in a loss. The home opener was set for Monday Night Football versus there division rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Both teams coming off week one losses were hungry for the win. This would be a special game for the Bengals, as it was newly acquired QB Peyton Manning's first game. The Bengals would elect to kick off to our honored guests. On the first drive, Big Ben threw a pick that would set up the Bengals with a little moment early. BGE would dominate on the ground and Peyton looked sharp. The drive would end in a touchdown. Defense was stout and forced a punt by the Burgh. Cincinnati would score again, behind the ground attack. It seemed that they were in cruise control well into the second quarter...and then...The Burgh sustained a drive. Converting crucial third downs, and mixing up the attack well. At the half 14-7. Cinci would get stopped on the first possession. Peyton looked weak and weary, making poor reads and forcing passes. AveryB would continue to claw his way back, methodically driving the ball up field, culminating in another touchdown. The Steelers defense must have heard what Tomlin had to say at the half, because the unit came out and stepped up the intensity, stuffing BGE for losses when he had been routing picking up 7 - 10 yard games earlier. The Burgh took the lead 17-14 late in the 3rd. Cinci kept their composure, and Peyton led a nice drive but the offense couldn't convert on the 3rd and goal and was forced to kick a fieldgoal. With a 1:50 left on the clock and 1 timeout, the Burgh was in position to get the game winning drive. Big Ben threw a pick to PacMan Jones, which put the Bengals in the redzone. Nuge would go on to kick the game winner after stalling again on the 3 yard line, leaving 1 second on the clock. A quick squib and the game was over. GG to AveryB , and GL the rest of the season.
