Today the Bengals release Alex Smith. No, the other Alex Smith to make room for CB Terrence McGee. McGee was brought in for depth with Adam Jones out for at least another 7 weeks. The GM thought about putting Jones on IR, but decided he didn't need 3 TEs on the roster and will hold out for Jones to a make it back from injury.

The Bengals were able to lock up prized DT Geno Atkins to a 5yr 35.6 million dollar contract with 20.1 million guaranteed. LT Anthony Collins was also signed to a 4yr 5.65 million dollar contract with 1.76 million guaranteed. Micheal Johnson has an offer on the table and the team is waiting on a call from his agent. Safety Taylor Mays and cornerback Brandon Ghee are also in a contract year. Word has it that the team will probably not offer much and will most likely let them go to free agency after the season.

The Bengals have made a trade with the Washington Redskins. Cincinnati will send underwhelming strong safety Taylor Mays to Washington and acquire outside linebacker Aaron Maybin. Taylor was thought to be one of the cuts when going down to the 53 player mandate. He made the cut, but really hasn't done anything that coaches feel the rookie Shawn Williams can do. Maybin was cut when the team was going down from 90 to 75. He made a nice impression on the coaching staff, but just not enough to make the cut at the time. Now he and his paintings can get a fresh start on 2nd string behind starter James Harrison. The front office feels that Harrison might retire after this season, so Maybin is an insurance policy. He will fit in nicely with our stable of fast playmaking linebackers.

    ****BREAKING NEWS****

Coach Chandler addressed the media after practice today. " After much deliberation and talks with the coaching staff, I have decided to give rookie Geovani Bernard the start for this weeks game. He had put in a lot of work in relief and sub packages for BJGE, but Coach Jay Gruden feels he can add a different element on the early downs as well. Green-Ellis will still be an integral part of the offense, but we like Geo's explosiveness and playmaking ability". This come as a bit of a surprise since Green-Ellis has been doing pretty good running the ball this season. This looks like a let's see what he can do type of thing, but let's see what the rookie can do when given more snaps.

The Bengals lost LE Carlos Dunlap for 4 weeks to an injury in today loss to the Bills. The coach has some tricks up his sleeve to fill the void until the team leading sack getter come back to the line up. Geovani Bernard didn't too bad in his first start. The OC had to throw the ball more this game due to the Bill stacking the box. The team has another game on the road against the Detroit Lions next week. Coach Chandler said Monday's scheduled day off with most likely be a practice day to the team back on track.

The Bengals lose OLB Emmanuel Lamur to a broken collarbone in the win against the Lions. The Coach and GM have not decided whether to put him on IR since he won't come back until at least week 13. The Coach thinks he has enough depth at that position and is looking the next man to step up.

The Head Coach has named Trevor Robinson the starter in this weeks game. Kyle Cook has done a great job so far, but has struggled at times with runs up the middle. The 1st year guy seems to have what takes to make improvements in that area without any drop off anywhere else. " We will give him a shot and see what can do. All the numbers are in his favor. Let's see if he can make them count" Coach Chandler said after practice today. In other news, Green-Ellis proved his worth last game and was given his starting position back. " I like Geno, but he just can't move the pile like Benjarvis. He brings a nice toughness to the running game. Geno will get his touches, don't worry about that." Coach Chandler said he was looking at other changes, but will hold off on those moves until sometime later in the season.

Coach Chandler has announced that Margus Hunt will start at LE in this week game against the Dolphins. The last couple of weeks the Bengals had played Harrison in that spot with little production. Harrison will return to his original position. Carlos Dunlap is on schedule to return to the lineup next week when the team faces division rival Baltimore. Adam Jones is also due back from injury next week. With the way the defense is playing so far, it can only get better with Dunlap and Jones back in their starting roles. Opposing QBs better be on the lookout.

Corner/Returner is back on the Injury Report, this time with a broken jaw. The team is deciding whether to put him on injured reserve or hold out hope for the end of the season. The word is the GM might look to IR him and get someone in another position to help out the team. This doesn't bode well for Jones as there are some nice prospects in the draft to team could look at that aren't as fragile.

After the close loss at home against the Vikings, the Bengals got a little bit of business done. CB Brandon Ghee signed a contract for 4 yrs 2.4 million dollars with a 1 million dollar signing bonus. Ghee will compete of a larger role in the secondary next year. The defensive coordinator has mentioned that he might try to insert Ghee in more situations as the present season progresses. He has nice speed and size. With a high press rating, good luck getting off the line when this guy lines up across from opposing WRs.

The off season is here and the Bengals are looking to make some moves to improve an already impressive roster. The Bengals got to the dance but couldn't extend their season past the Wildcard round. The GM took a long look at the roster and decided some moves need to be made. With the idea of getting younger, a few guys saw their stay with the team come to an end. Terrance Newman was the first victim, along with Robert Geathers. Both of these guys were on the wrong end of 30 according the front office. Other moves include releasing WR Andrew Hawkins, LB Aaron Maybin, CB Terrence McGee, FB John Conner, FS Jeromy Miles, LG Mike Pollak. WR Ben Tate and MLB Vincent Rey were among the teams re-signings. The team will be looking to fill the vacant positions through the draft. There are few prospects the GM has his eye on. The GM has also noted that he has not ruled out the idea of filling a couple of positions through free agency.

In roster news, the Coaching Staff have gotten together and decided to move LB Vontaze Burfict back to the inside. Could former starting MLB Rey Maualuga roster spot be in jeopardy or could he make the move the outside. Stay tuned for details.

It seems Maualuga is saved for the moment. The defensive coordinator has convinced the front office to that Rey agreed to move to fill the void vacated by Burfict. Maualuga will battle with Sean Porter for the starting job.

News from the clubhouse is that the Front Office is looking to move DT Domata Peko. He currently low on the depth chart according to sources. The emergence of Ra'Shede Hageman and his dominant play against the Jags is what is prompting this move. Word is the Coach Staff feels that the duo of Hageman and Atkins will be a force to rekon with and Peko's time on the roster is coming to an end. There is a lot of talent at his position and he is pretty much the "old" man out at this point. The GM would like to get something from him, but if they don't get any real offers, Peko could find himself on the cutting room floor.

After a pretty successful pre-season, the Bengals are ready for the Season 2 of TLY. Coach Chandler during a press conference this morning has announced the starters for this season. Andy Dalton will once again start a QB. Giovani Bernard will get the nod at RB with BJGE rotating in. Orson Charles will be the FB again this season. No question about who the starting WRs are, AJ Green and Mohamed Sanu are tabbed with those duties with Marvin Jones taking over the slot. 1yr WR Cobi Hamilton and Rookie Mike Davis will also rotate in as well. Look for a constant battle at the slot position, word is Mike Davis could push for more playing time as the season progresses. Jermain Gresham will start, but Tyler Eifert could make things difficult for the veteran if he struggles this season. The team added veteran Matt Spaeth for depth and flexibility. Whitworth start a LT with Smith at RT. Rookie Andrew Norwell takes over at LG with Kevin Zeitler at RG. Trevor Robinson will start over the declining Kyle Cook. Sack masters Dulap and Johnson will be the bookends on defense. Geno Atkins and Rookie Ra'Shede Hageman will be the roadblocks in the middle. James Harrison will get the nod at LOLB, with newly assigned Vontaz Burfict policing the middle. For now, Sean Porter will get the start over reassigned Rey Maualuga. Hall and Jones will start a LCB/RCB respectively with Brandon Ghee at the nickle. Reggie Nelson will start at FS with Iloka at the strong. Nugent and Huber will handle the kicking duties. Tate and Peerman will handler kick return and punt return duties. Some of these guys that are starting now, might not be by the end of season. There is a lot of good depth here, and Coach has made it known that if you can't put forth your best effort on the field, the next guy will take your place.

Coach Chandler decided not to waste any time in announcing that rookie Mike Evans has been elevated on the depth chart. Apparently Cobi Hamilton's inability to get good separation and most of all drops in key situations has led to this roster move. Hamilton showed promise but the Staff feels Davis has more upside.
