    Match 1
    Birmingham City 2 - 0 Fiorentina

    GOALS
    5' - Birmingham Goal - Zigic
    90' - Birmingham Goal - Jerome

    CARDS
    89' - Fiorentina Yellow Card - Koldrup

Zigic scored a great headed goal from a corner in the 5th minute then it was real hard fought battle to hold onto the lead as Fiorentina were throwing everything at us and worked some great build up plays that lead to a few chances and could have got back on equal terms by half time however it wasn't to be. The second half was as hard fought as the first with chances for both sides but neither team finished them off, then just to add insult to injury Koldrup picked up a yellow card which seemed extremely harsh as it didn't even look like a foul. Then in the 90th min up popped Jerome to slot home the winning goal.

    Match 2
    Everton 1 - 1 Birmingham City

    GOALS
    17' T Cahill - Everton
    90' Hleb - Birmingham City

    CARDS
    None

Everton really came out of the blocks fighting for this 1. Superb build up play from the backs feeding the ball to the monster that is Fellaini who to charge of the midfield taking 2 players just to try and tackle him. In the 17th min great wing play and movement split the defence and a brilliant ball into the box for Cahill to nod home. From then on it was just a massive battle with plays from both sides getting broke down by good defensive play however Everton had huge possesion they struggled to break down Birmingham's defence and when they did they hit high or wide. Birmingham had a couple of chances saved or broke down. Everton could have been 2 or 3 up by half time. The second half was much the same with Larson getting a free kick about 30 yards out and decided to shoot straight down the middle and the keeper dealth with it easily. Birmingham played a couple of set plays from corners and free kicks causing problems for Everton in the box but they stood strong and dealt with them even on the breaks down the wings etc. Everton had another 3 or 4 good chances to extend their lead but failed to finish them off.
Hleb got injured in the 48th min however it went unnoticed and a good job to as he got on the end of a great ball which he headed over the keeper who seemed to be routed to the floor, the ball then bounced off the cross bar and dropped to Hleb's feet by the goal and he got a tap in for the draw. This was such a battle both teams could have ended up with 2 or 3 cards each however we think the ref must have left his cards at home. After the match both managers agreed what a game and are both looking forward to the reverse fixture however I feel it was a bit of a smash n grab job to get the draw and feel very lucky.

    Week 1 Thoughts
We feel this was a great start to our season picking up points in both hard and tense matches as we obviously didn't expect to that's for sure. The boy's did a great job for us this week however we have a couple of things to fix for next week's matches but are delighted we got through this week without any bookings.

    Week 2 Review

    Match 1
    Hercules 3 -3 Birmingham City

    Hercules
    Goals:
    Tiago Gomes - 40'
    Trezeguet - 43'
    Farinos - 49'

    Cards:
    M. Sarr

    Birmingham City
    Goals:
    C. Jerome - 2'
    N. Zigic - 44'
    N. Zigic - 81'

    Cards:
    None

Well what a match Birmingham really flew out the box with Jerome scoring in the 2nd min then it was a superb end to end battle with chances for both teams. Gomes scored a beauty in the 40th min quickly followed by another from Trezuget in the 43min. With Birmingham set to go into half time 2 - 1 down Zigic Headed a great goal in the 44th min so the teams went in all square at half time. Hercules started the second half on fire with a quick quality goal in the 49th. Then we went back to the hard fought end to end battle until Zigic popped up with another in the 81st min. After that it was a very tense end to the game with chances for both teams but no more goals so it ended a draw which was a fair result I think.

    Match 2

    Birmingham City 4 - 1 Lazio

    BIRMINGHAM CITY GOALS
    62' - Jerome

    84' - Zigic
    89' - Zigic
    90' - Larsson

    CARDS
    60' - Ferguson

    LAZIO GOAL
    78' - Flocarri

    CARDS
    None

A really hard battle in the first half which saw a lot of fouls by Birmingham City and none from Lazio the whole game with a few chances for both teams but both defences stood strong then the second half started the same way until up popped Jerome to knock in the first just after Ferguson got himself carded for yet another foul. Lazio fought hard and got what they deserved in the 78th min an equalizer driven in the corner leaving the keeper no chance and the defence lost. With 6min to go Zigic headed in 2 goals within five mins and Larsson got another before the end. The score doesn't give a true picture of the game it was much closer than it looks.

    Week 3 Review

    Match 2

    OM 2 - 2 Birmingham City

    OM
    Goals
    63' Gignac
    71' Gignac

    Cards
    None

    Birmingham City
    Goals
    15' Zigic
    20' Zigic

    Cards
    None

Yet again our guys started off this game on fire unfortunately it got put out again lol. Mr Zigic did it again with 2 goals in the first 20 mins from great balls into the box from the brilliant Jerome. I can't praise Jerome enough as the work he puts in is so crucial to Birmingham and it was a major blow when he got injured just before half time. The second half belonged to Gignac as usual he caused havoc for our defence and some really clever passes from his team mates and we were back to a draw in what seemed a blink of an eye. Om had 61% possesion in this game and it really showed in the last 20 mins with a few chances to get a winner however it wasn't to be and ended a draw. We were pretty pleased to get a draw from this fixture and if we were offered that before the game we would have been happy but it never feels good to give up a 2 goal lead. Having said that OM deserved to get at least a draw from this 1 well done guys.

    Match 2

    Birmingham City 2 - 3 Rubin Kazan

    Birmingham City
    Goals
    8' Zigic
    13' Johnson

    Cards (Yellow)
    71' Michel
    81' Dann

    Rubin Kazan
    Goals
    25' Medvedev
    64' Martins
    86' Eduardo

    Cards
    None

Well what a great game this was as the Birmingham boys came out on fire with 2 good early goals from Zigic and Johnson then Rubin Kazan took stock did a little organising and got 1 back in the 25th from Medvedev. The game then proceeded to be a major battle of wills with chances for both teams that didn't end up in the net when all of a sudden Martins took a just sublime long shot from about 20 - 25 yards and bent it right into the top corner leaving the keeper no chance. Then disaster struck for Birmingham when Eduardo put Rubin Kazan into the lead in the 86th min. Zigic did a lovely turn and found himself in a 1 on 1 in the 90th min and ended up pretty much passing it to the keeper. This was a very good open game however Birmingham suffered their first defeat of the season but can have no complaints they did play well but were beaten by a better team on the day.

    Week 4 Review
    Match 2

    Birmingham City 3 - 3 Udinese

    Birmingham City
    Goals
    4' Zigic

    None

    Udinese
    Goals
    29' Sanchez
    45' Pasquale
    83' Floro Flores

    Cards

This was a really hard fought battle all over the pitch with chances for both sides to get the winner but it ended up a draw which was a fair result.

It's funny, you can tell how tall Zigic is by how much narrower the lines in the pitch look. The lines in his background are farther away since the focal point of the camera is way higher. DAMN YOU ZIGIC YOU TALL BITCH!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

    Good luck this season Del.
