The San Diego Chargers have agreed to a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers ( smace767 ) Sending the 2nd Overall Pick to the Steel City.

Also, the Steelers will be acquiring the Chargers 3rd Round pick in 2016. In return, Pittsburgh will send their 1st and 2nd Round Picks of 2015, their 1st and 2nd Round Picks of 2016, and WR Markus Wheaton to San Diego.

What was a grueling negotiation process, the San Diego and Steelers organizations were able to agree to terms that are beneficial to both franchises.

Chargers owner, AJ Cimahosky was reached by the media, "It almost didn't happen. Negotiations started nearly as soon as we made it clear that we would be willing to part with the #2 Pick and ended at approximately 6:30 last night. I'll be honest, we nearly pulled the plug in the end, but qe came to an agreement."

"Markus Wheaton was the straw that broke the camel's back as they'd say. WR is a need for us. We struggled at that position this past year. It has been no secret that WR/TE Darius Marcus and WR Herve Shaw were on the block as well. Wheaton certainly addresses a need and brings a great talent to the West Coast."

This comes at no surprise, as this draft class has a few young stars that will make an immediate impact, thus making the Top 5 picks that much more valuable. Many in the Chargers fan base were discouraged at the announcement in hopes of picking up one of these young athletes. "We certainly had a plan in place with the #2 pick in hand. However, long term, we saw it more suitable to acquire more picks. One star will not propel this team into a SB. We have a plan mapped out that I think the fans will really love once it gets hashed out."

When asked about the QB situation in San Diego, "We are certainly discussing our QB going forward. Rivers was the face of this franchise and we thank him for that. There are some good, talented QBs in this draft. We also have two good, talented QBs already on roster. We will evaluate both of them and seem whether they deserve to have a shot to play the entire season and lead our offense. Time will answer that for you."

Many believed that San Diego would take QB at #2 with either Cortez Simmons or Gianni Cardona. After rumors began swirling of the trade, many thought WR would be their target. Now the question is back on the table as to where San Diego will go this year, but what we have gained is the knowledge that these next 2 drafts will be critical for the Chargers organization.

Coach smace-We felt like with the 4th ranked defense in the league we needed to address the offense. Playmakers and big time players make plays. We have lots of good young pieces but Oline and QB were a need as well as a TD scorer. We needed someone who can put points on the board.

    Why so many picks?
It usually SOP to have to give up two 1st and a 2nd for a top 3 pick in a playmaker / impact player draft. So that was the starting point. My picks are later in the first round so we had to put an aggressive package together. We have lots of young guys who are developing. Picking where we were picking would just add more equally talented potential contributors in the mix of players already here. In the end it was going to be a 5 picks for 2 picks deal.

Why add Wheaton to the mix? Looks like you gave up more than you received by far. The draft is always a front loaded event. Many of the true impact players, we saw 6 that could step in and help right away, wont last past the 7th pick. we wanted one of those guys. But we still wanted to stay with a 3rd rd pick in this draft and the next. Markus has been great but he was the 4th wr and eveyone ahead of him will be ahead of him for years to come. Emanuelle Sanders had a great playoff game. The 5th WR Kurly actually catches better and is a better route runner. During these long negotiations we wanted to retain a 3rd rd pick. SO we offered Markus for the ability to keep the 3rd and address a bigger need with that pick vs having a guy 5 deep in the depth chart not playing many downs.

We may have been able to deal Markus separate but his value to this deal allowed us to keep a 3rd rd pick and secure the #2 pick when he was not going to play that much being the #5 wr. So to the Steelers we traded the 5th string wr for a 3rd rd pick and the security to close the deal on the #2 overall pick.

Who are you going to take after giving up so much? We will take someone on the offensive side of the ball. We saw a few once every 10 years type players and we wanted to get one of them. With the #2 pick we will draft a future pro-bowler who will help our offense generate points..

    *BREAKING NEWS*

San Diego officials have begun emerging from the office and reporters have swarmed them. From what we gather, DE Corey Liuget and S Will Hill are both AVAILABLE for draft picks in the upcoming draft. However, it seems that only 1 will be parted with, depending on the offers on the table.

There you have it Chargers and HK fans. Two of the prize defenders on the team and in the league are part of a bidding war. The best offer for either player will walk away with their services, while the other MAY remain in the fold.

Time sensitive issue at its best. We will certainly see how this plays out.
