Broncos desperately needed a win to pull out of their downward spiral while the Chiefs were looking to extend their lead atop the division, but without starting QB Alex Smith who is out with an elbow injury.

Chiefs came out firing on all cylinders with Jammal Charles leading the charge with a nice 47yard run. QB Tyler Bray finished the drive finding TE Tony Moeaki for 15yd TD catch. That would be the only touchdown of the 1st half as both defenses were playing great. Broncos had a tough time getting into the redzone . Luckily Denver’s D showed up today and were able to get to the Chiefs QB with 4 sacks and 3int’s on the day. Rookie DE Quanterus Smith tallied 2 of those sacks filling in for Robert Ayers who’s been out with a broken collarbone.

Broncos started off the 2nd half with a nice drive ending it with a Erick Decker 44 yd td catch to tie the game up 10-10. The Chiefs offense would then take a huge hit when Jamaal Charles dislocated his knee and was out for the rest of the game. The Chiefs offense weren’t able to get the momentum back and Denver’s D were able to hold them scoreless in the 2nd half. A Matt Prater FG with less than 2 mins to go in the game would prove to be the game winner (10-13). This was definitely a close one that could've gone either way. Game 2 of this divisional matchup is just 2 weeks away.

    Notable Stats:
    RB Jamaal Charles 14att 101yds
    DE Quanterus Smith 7tkls 2sacks

Notes: RB Ronnie Hillman got the start today over Legarette Blount. The team likes the big play potential of Hillman and will use Blount mainly in short yardage situations.

Gg. Charles injury spelled trouble for the Chiefs as he was the only offense.
