Broncos hold on late vs 2nd half push by Chargers (AP) San Diego, CA - The Chargers and Broncos are no strangers to each other as both teams came into week 2 at 1-0 on the season. The Chargers still had a bad taste in their mouth from a 1st round playoff loss to the Broncos and couldnt wait to faceoff with the reigning AFC West champs. However the Chargers came out of the gate flat-footed as the Broncos took advantage of 2 Philip Rivers INT's and jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the 2nd Qtr. The Chargers then put the pedal to the floor scoring in bunches to try and get back into it but everytime they would score the Broncos would match as they would head to halftime with a 31-14 lead. The 2nd half was all about ball control for Shonn Greene and the Broncos as they were able to chew alot of time off the clock so the Chargers would not have alot of time as Coach Pepper knows the Chargers have quick strike capability. The Chargers did however fight their way back into the game cutting it to a 34-28 Bronco lead but midway through the 4th Shonn Greene would punch it in from 9 yard out to make it 41-28 with just 3:09 left. The Chargers came out and did exactly what the Broncos knew they were capable of which was scoring a quick TD followed by an onside kick recoverey and another TD to make it 41-35 with just 1:30 left. The Broncos however would recover this onside kick but the Chargers would get 1 last shot, down 6 and the ball at their own 9 yard line with :30 left and no timeouts. The Broncos kept everyone back and after a Rivers completion where it appeared that the Chargers had gotten out of bounds the official ruled him in bounds and the clock kept moving so it came down to 1 final deep ball for Rivers where he would be picked off for the 3rd time and the Broncos survive and go on to a 41-34 victory to move to 2-0. "Its always a dogfight when we play these guys, This is a great early season win for us specially since all we heard all offseason about how much better they were with their offseason aquisitions" said Josh Mcdaniels. The Broncos will now prepare for another divison rival as they head to the blck hole to face the Oakland Raiders.
