Buccaneers went into Week 2 still riding the high from their Week 1 victory on the road vs the Broncos. The energy in the newly renovated Raymond James Stadium was clearly evident as the Bucs looked to continue its winning ways in their home opener.

The Bucs receive the opening kickoff and QB Mike Glennon leads his team a drive that almost ate up the entire 1st qtr. clock behind the hard running of HB Doug Martin. The drive was capped off when Glennon found WR James Jones for a 3rd down TD pass in the redzone.

The Saints would not be impressed as they go on an impressive drive theirselves capped off by an 11-yd TD pass in the back of the endzone to WR Lonnie Prior. The Saints defense would not be outdone by its offense as Saints FS Malcolm Jenkins would take advantage of a bad decision by Glennon and intercept a pass around mid-field. The Bucs defense would bail out Glennon and force Saints into a FG try which K Garett Harley nailed. The Bucs offense continued to sputter as WR Kevin Ogletree would cough up the ball late in the 2nd qtr. and the Saints would tack on another Hartley FG to take the 13-7 lead into the halftime locker room.

The Bucs would come out in the 2nd half with a sense of urgency and both the offense and defense would shine. The Saints offense failed to get going in the 2nd half and the Bucs offense took advantage. Again behind the hard running of Dougie Martin and the accurate passing of Mike Glennon the Bucs found the endzone two more times as Glennon hit WR James Jones on 2 more TD passes to bring his total to 3 for the day.

The Saints showed great heart as they never gave up but their comeback attempts were foiled by two late 4th qtr. interceptions. The first was by rookie phenom LB Demetris Royster, whom played his Cover 2 Sink assignment with perfection. The 2nd Interception was the heartbreaker as Saints QB Drew Brees had his team in a position to maybe tie the game with less than a minute on the clock and in Bucs territory. The play started as TE Jimmy Graham ran a seam route and against the called Cover 4 Graham seemed to be wide open down the middle but as Brees let the pass fly FS Dashon Goldson read the route and the throw beautifully and stepped in front and picked off the pass to seal the game.

GG Eddie and I look for another classic when I have to go into the Super Dome later in the year.
