Vincent Jackson had 3 Rec's 152YDS, 2TD's on the day.

Both teams' offenses came out sharp and put together great drives with some big plays mixed in as both teams traded TD for TD in the 1st quarter. Steve Smith took a Cam Newton pass 72yds for the score. Tampa Bay came back with a Vincent Jackson 82 yard catch and run for 6. Up 21-14 in the 2nd quarter, the Bucs forced its first turnover on a kick return. Momentum then swung to the home team who were able to control the clock late in the 2nd and came away the with the FG to go up 10.

The Bucs would go up as much as 17 points in the 3rd quarter, but then they turned the ball over on a Freeman INT and momentum swung back Carolina's way. They definitely didn't waste the opportunity and before you know it they were down by just 3 points with the ball in the 4th. Oh coach Nom has been here b4...many times...with not so favorable outcomes. However, rookie safety Mark Barron stepped in front of a Cam Newton pass and took it all the way down to the 1 which led to a Blount TD. This made it a two score game and score game and the Bucs D were able to hold off the Panthers in this contest.

These two young and talented teams put on an offensive show. Both teams gained over 1,000 yards of offense combined! Bucs ran for 172yds as a team. Rookie RB Michael Smith is officially averaging 51 yds per carry. His only carry of the day was a spectacular 51yd TD run that opened eyes.

Here are some more key stats:
    QB Cam Newton 18/33 432YDS 3TD, 2INT's
    QB Josh Freeman 15/24 306YDS, 2TD, 1INT
    RB Legarette Blount 24/110YDS, 3TD's
    RB Taiwan Jones 6/83yds, 2TD's
    WR Vincent Jackson 3Rec 152YDS, 2TD's
    WR Steve Smith 5Rec 141YDS, 1TD
Great game Jim. This is going to be one heck of a division!

Wow. Sounds like it was a great game! Was it a show of good offense? Or just bad defense?

Good question. I'd say it's good offense with a little bad defense mixed in haha.

    Great game James!

I would definitely agree with James and say it was a mix of bad defense and good offense. I for one felt like my D didn't show up until the 4th quarter, when we actually got our first stop, as well as our only turnover. Unfortunately we had dug too big of a hole and Cam threw a couple of 4th quarter picks that left us close but no cigar.

For the 2nd year in a row Cam Newton opened the season throwing for over 400 yards on the road, only to suffer defeat. Despite the loss; a strong showing by Cam, as well as newly acquired HB Taiwan Jones (3 total TDs) and receivers Steve Smith & Greg Little, leave the fans in Carolina very optimistic about their Panthers in 2012.
