    2014 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Times- The 2014-15 season is upon us Tampa fans and a lot happened this offseason as the biggest news of all was that the Buccaneers were sold to former player Zac Carder. Most of you remember him from his days at Florida State and his stint with the Panthers but now he is looking to make a name for himself as the owner of a franchise.

Carder bought the team after the resigning period and just before Free Agency. Carder wasted no time making moves as he sent Vincent Jackson north to Minnesota for a 2nd and 4th round pick in the draft. In free agency the focus was to fill the gaps left by players that didn't resign and two of the key signings for Tampa were WR Mario Manningham and MLB Jonathan Vilma. A player that im sure most fans thought the Bucs were going to resign in free agency was QB Josh Freeman but the team collectively has moved on a Mike Glennon will get the start week 1. Hours before the draft started Mr. Carder was on the phone with the Dolphins front office and a deal was reached to send the 2nd round pick from Minnesota to Miami for OLB Phillip Wheeler and a 5th round pick. The deal for Wheeler filled another key need and gives the Buccaneers a solid linebacking core this season.

The 2014 NFL Draft was a solid draft for the Buccaneers which graded out at a B but they filled needs and solidified some key positions. The Bucs had the #7 pick and had been targeting Clemson's standout WR Sammy Watkins but rumors were circulating that Watkins would be going in the Top 5. Luckily that wasn't the case as Sammy fell to the Bucs who wasted no time making the selection and the replacement for Vincent Jackson was solved. In the 2nd round the Bucs selected DT Timmy Jernigan out of FSU and he will be starting next to Gerald McCoy and the Bucs are hoping for them to reek havoc on the interior this season. Rounds 4-7 the Buccaneers had 7 picks and 5 of those picks were used on players that will see a lot of playing time this year. In the 4th the Buccaneers selected DE Chaz Sutton and CB Darqueze Dennard both will see significant playing time this season. In the 5th they took QB Tyler Russel who recently was released from the team and they also selected RB Michael Dyer who is now the backup to Doug Martin. The 6th round selection was WR Josh Huff who is going to be the primary KR/PR. The 7th round picks were FB Chad Abrams which filled a need and he will start immediately and CB Pierre Desir who will be depth at corner for now.

Now that the offseason is over and the regular season is upon us as the Buccaneers open up against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Raymond James Stadium. The Buccaneers schedule is pretty tough this year and its always tough playing in the NFC South but I see the Bucs improving over last year and getting 5-7 wins this season and the first step into turning this franchise around. It is going to be a fun season and I hope everyone in the Tampa area comes out to support your Buccaneers as they start there 2014 campaign today. FIRE THE CANNONS!!!!!
