The Cardinals (0-3) and the Bucs (0-3) squared off for a battle of winless teams in week four. The Bucs coaching staff knew that they would have their hands full trying to defend and contain the Cardinals rebuilt offense that is built around Mike Vick. Vick always gives defensive coordinators headaches and the Bucs went into the game hoping to just contain Vick and wait for a mistake. That did happen early on in the game as the Cards would take the kickoff and move for a couple of first downs before Vick attempted a pass across the middle that was picked by Dakota Watson and the Bucs would cash it in for 6 as Doug Martin found some running room between the tackles and that's where he would score his 1st of 2 rushing TD's as the Bucs took a early 7-0 lead. The Cardinals and Vick found early success with the passing game , but it was Mendenhall who would tie it up with a TD run as he bounced it to the outside and outran the Buc defense. The Cardinals would go up by 7 midway through the 2nd quarter when Arenas would jump Ponders pass intended for Ogletree and race untouched 31 yards down the sidelines for a Cardinals TD and a 14-7 lead. The Bucs would tie it up midway through the 2nd quarter when Ponder found James Jones after he beat the DB in man coverage for a 70 yard tying TD. The Cardinals would drive the ball deep into the Bucs end of the field and the game would turn with under 20 seconds left in the half when Vick would attempt a pass into the right corner of the endzone , but it was thrown towards Revis Island and the drive was stopped as Revis made a great play on the ball. The teams would go into the locker room tied at 14-14. The 2nd half would belong to the Bucs as they would get the running game going and the combination of Martin and Best would find running room both between the tackles and to the outside. Martin would score a 3rd quarter TD on a run of 31 yards between the center and guard as he went untouched to the house. The Cardinals defense would keep them in the game with 2 interceptions of Ponder. Jerrod Powers and Nate Clemmons would each pick off Ponder to stop Buc drives . The Bucs would put up 28 points in the 2nd half to pull away and the Cardinals would try to get back into it scoring a late 4th quarter TD. The Bucs finally won the turnover battle with 6 turnovers forced, and they turned it over 3 times for a plus 3 on the day and that proved to be the difference. The Bucs managed to put up 588 yards of offense and maybe this Buc team has turned the corner after a real shaky start this season.
