    Cal 35 vs Stanford 23

    Dynasty Wire

Stanford had climbed their way to #2 in the polls, and needed only to win the Big Game to book their tickets to the BCS Championship.

Cal's focus was to bring the Stanford's Golden Axe back to Berkeley (for an unprecedented 5th strait time). To do that they would need to stop the NCAA's all team single season leader for rushing HB Anthony Wilkerson. Wilkerson had rushed for just under 2500 yards on the season. The Bears focused on Wilkerson and contained him for 92 yards on 17 carries. The defense was also able force 2 Nottingham interceptions and 2 Stanford punts.

The Bears offense was able to get on the board first with a 76 yard pass on 3rd long. QB Pat Anderson put a long pass over the CB in what looked like some kind of cover 3, WR Jeff Cooper hauled in the pass and streaked down the left sideline. Defensively the Bears held Stanford to a FG on the following possession. Cal would add another TD pass to Cooper to exted its lead to 14-7 in the first. This score would hold till the half.

Cal and Stanford would trade possessions before Stanford's Wilkerson would score on a 15 yard scamper. 14-10 Cal.

Cal took the ball in the 4th and added a TD pushing its lead to 21-10. After a Cal pick, Anderson was able to find Cooper again down the side line, this time they took advantage of a very aggresive saftey Devon Carrington. The long pass to Cooper set up another Cal score extending the lead to 28-10.

Stanford went to the air on the next drive to close the gap at 28-17. After an onside kick the Cardinal needed a stop and tried to get aggressive but HB Calvin Cameron popped through the line and rumbled 62 yards for the score. Cameron finished the day with 17 rushes for 159 yards and 2 TD's.

Stanford never quit and scored again but the ensuing onside kick failed, final Cal 35 Stanford 23.

QB Pat Anderson ended the day with over 9300 yards passing for his career. This was good enough to make Anderson the All-Time leading passer at Cal.

CPU loss to Oregon State cost the Bears the Pac-10 championship...tough to stomach.

It wont get any better next year...A quick coaches poll has UCLA as the favorite
Bad news he is a junior and is quoted as saying "There are two things important to me. My degree (which he is on track to get early) and beating UCLA!!" So, I think its safe to say he will back for 1 more year

Really tired of Mr. Anderson. We have brought every bullet in our gun to date....We gotta get him this year or it could spell doom.
