After joining the TMFL in week 15 of the 2017 season, the Panthers owner Cole Copeland came in and made it his sole mission to weed out any weaknesses. That he did.. Going 2-0 with a tie split in the middle weeks 15-17.. Beating the Super Bowl loser Eagles in week 17 to show the league that these Panthers aren't going anywhere after a lackluster 2017 season following a Super Bowl winning season in '16.

In free agency Copeland realized that his team really wasn't in as bad of shape as he first thought. Although old, there are some veteran presence to go along with some up and coming stars. They did dabble a little however, signing former National Champion AJ McCarron to a 2 year backup QB deal.. Veteran HB Shane Vereen to a 2 year deal as well to spell Jonathan Stewart and come in as the Panthers 3rd down back.. CB Keith McGill to come in and be a #2 corner in this God-awful CB squad.. Finally, RT Mike Remmers to come in and move from RT and LT however management sees fit.

In the 2018 draft Copeland and the Panthers came into it with the mindset that if one of their top 3 CB's fell to them at 17 overall that they would go defense. As the first round moved along, corners were going off the board left and right as FIVE were drafted in the first 15 picks. So they went to plan B, which seemed to come out even better, as LOLB Lamar Farris (whom many experts pegged as the number 1 true talent) somehow fell to the Panthers at #17. Farris is an extremely fast 4-3 linebacker who is as sure of a tackler as they come. He'll be an instant starter who will still need to practice hard on working on his coverage and ability to recognize the offense. In the second round, the Panthers went with TE Jared Price. With Greg Olsen not getting any younger Copeland saw Price on the board and jumped at him (albeit probably prematurely) Price is fast but lacks what it takes to beat the opposition in man coverage as he has one of the most terrible footwork I have ever seen. With Copeland's final pick in the draft before he was spotted leaving with who appeared to be 3 members of t ghe dance team.. He traded up to the 7th overall pick in the 3rd for a later 3rd, 4th and 5th and took DT Marquese Barnes. Barnes is one of the more freakier athletes of the dline talents coming out of this draft as he has an unbelievable first step without losing out on strength and is balanced in both the run and the pass.

    Week 1:

After naming Cameron Artis-Payne the starting HB coming into their week 1 game against the division rival Saints, Copeland and his Panthers were eager to start the year off with a win. With great play from Cam Newton all game (besides a couple random huge missthrows for int's bc CPU God mode) they were able to do just that. After taking a 17-3 lead in the 3rd quarter, the young Cory James led Saints came marching back to tie it up in the 4th with 17 unanswered points. Two good drives and two Panthers 4th quarter fg's were the difference in the game as Carolina's defense dug in and stopped New Orleans late game winning drive as a 4th down sack sealed it.

The star of the game was the Panthers offensive line - giving up no sacks.
Kelvin Benjamin also had 9 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown.

Carolina will host the Cowboys in week two. Dallas is coming off a week 1 52-35 win over the Redskins in Washington as they forced an eye opening 6 turnovers.

Panthers announce that they have signed HB Ryan Matthews to a one year free agent deal worth 1.1M. After demoting Jon Stewart in week 1, Matthews will come in to make an immediate impact.

    Week 2:

After crawling out of week 1 with a victory away from home, the 1-0 Panthers made their home debut of the 2018 season against the 1-0 Cowboys. Carolina came out guns blazing driving down the field on their first possession as Cam Newton was on fire. They finished that drive with a 1 yard touchdown run on the goal line from recently acquired Ryan Matthews, who will see most of the goal line work this season. Just a few plays later the Panthers and also recently acquired Chris Cook forced an early interception of QB Brock Osweiler.. They quickly turned the lead to 14 with another great drive by Cam who ended up punching it in himself with his legs. You could see Dallas needed something, anything to get back into this game. They did just that with 14 unanswered points sparked by one of the more pretty looking interceptions I've seen in a long time by FS Wilcox of the Cowboys who saw that Panthers receiver Devin Funchess was wide open down the sideline for what looked to be another big play for Carolina so he bolted as fast as he could and made up a shocking amount of distance as he dived for the ball and came down with it.. the momentum had shifted. With 6 seconds left in the first half, after a catch by Kelvin Benjamin on the goal line and a spike to stop the clock, head coach Rivera made the tough call to try and go for a touchdown. This ended up being the wrong decision this time as star DE Greg Hardy came up with a sack to end the half at a tie 14-14. Fast forward to the first play of the 4th quarter, with Carolina leading 17-14 but Dallas on the goal line trying to take the lead. The best LB in the game Luke Kuechly had a chance to tip the momentum overboard as Brock Osweiler made a bad read that someone ended well as he connected with a slant for the go ahead TD as Luke was in perfect position he just didn't finish the play. Copeland was very upset after the game about that play stating "we just can't ever give up on plays out there.. especially from guys like Luke who I expect to be a leader.. that play made me sick." After a Panthers field goal and a defensive stop, with 3 minutes left in the game Cameron Artis-Payne decided to turn on the mother lovin' on switch. After just a decent performance last week and Ryan Matthews on his tail on the depth chart, he put in one of the more solid performances of any player in the league so far this season. Trailing 21-20 he took the hand off from the good side of the 50 on a shotgun counter play.. He proceeded by putting Cowboys corner Scandrick on his ass with a ginormous truck and then having the strength to break not 1.. not 2.. but 3 defenders as he raced to the endzone for a highlight reel 46 yard touchdown run people will be talking about all season. With the lead at 26-21 after an unsuccessful 2 point conversion, Carolina held the Cowboys yet again after Rookie pass rushing standout DT Marquese Barnes forced a 4th down punt with a huge sack. As if his first touchdown wasn't enough.. Artis-Payne wasn't satisfied as he busted another 47 yarder for a touchdown the first play after the two minute warning to wrap up the 33-21 victory at home.

After a 2-0 start the Carolina Panthers will host the 2-0 Ravens in week 3

    Players of the Game:
HB Cameron Artis-Payne - 176 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts/2 receptions for 24 yards
Panthers O-Line - allowed only 1 sack, their only sack allowed in their first two games/0 holding or false start penalties
DT Star Lotulelei - 2 sacks

    Week 4:

After their first loss of the year last week at home to the Ravens, Copeland and his Panthers were hungry for a bounce back win in week 4 on the road in Minnesota. On the back of the breakout player of the year Cameron Artis-Payne, they did just that. A 34-24 statement win that put Carolina on the map in TMFL as a team that is forreal. Artis-Payne rushed for 127 yards on 15 attempts and 72 yards and 2 tds on 2 receptions as once again the opposing team could not stop his big play ability. Cam Newton had his second straight rough game as his accuracy has been an issue as of late. Copeland talked with reporters after the game and said "Cam has got to be more accurate for us if we are going to have any shot moving forward." Nonetheless, this was a huge win for Carolina who remains on top of the somewhat struggling NFC South so far this season at 3-1 and will look for win number four next week as they continue their road stretch in Tampa Bay against division foe BRUCE80 ..
