After a 12-4 season last year and a disappointing 33 to 13 loss to the Cardinals in the Divisional Playoffs. The Panthers have let go of Head Coach John Fox earlier this week in a surprising move. What's even more surprising is the the hiring of the Panthers new Head Coach. It has been announced that Claven will take over for John Fox's team. Coach Claven was not available for comment on his hiring but the Panthers organization has said that Coach Claven is expected to hold a press conference in the next few days.

Panthers win in week 1 against the Eagles 38 to 7. In week 2 the Panthers played divison rivals Atlanta Falcons. Not only did they lose the game 38 to 13 they lost Deangelo Williams for 3 weeks. After trading J.Stewart for A. Bryant this is a big blow for the Panthers.

    Upcoming Week 5: Carolina Panthers

The Panthers followed up their week 1 win against the Eagles with a blowout loss to the Atlanta Falcons. (38 to 13) They also lost there best player RB D. Williams for 4 weeks with broken ribs. When coach Claven was asked about this game, this is what he had to say. "Not at all what I expected from my team. Williams injury hurt but to play the way we did was that whole game was just inexcusable. Bottom line was the Falcons took us behind the woodshed."

After their loss to the Falcons, Panthers tried to get back on the winning track and head to Dallas to face the Cowboys in Week 3. Panthers started off great taking a 21 to 0 lead going into halftime. Then the Wheels fell off. The Panthers let the Cowboys come back and tie the game to send it to overtime. Where the Boys won the toss and took the ball down field for the winning score. 34 to 28. Coach Claven was unavailable for comment following this game. The good news for the Panthers was Williams backup M. Goodson rushed for over 136 yards and 2 TD's.

Week 4 the Panthers are on a bye and will have time, not only to prepare for the Washington Redskins but it gives an extra week for D. Williams to heal. This is a most win for the Panthers, as they can not start the season off at 1-3. Steve Smith said "I guarantee a victory against Washington. When we play at home we are a juggernaut. Week 3's loss left a bad taste in our mouths and we are going to take it out on the Skins." There you have it Steve Smith is guaranteeing a victory. Let's hope he can back it up.

    Upcoming Week 7: Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have won 2 in a row now to improve to 3-2. In week 5 the Panthers got it done, jumping all over the Redskins 31 to 14. In the press conference after the game Coach Claven said "I was proud of how my team played this week. Defense played well and the Offense did too. Now we turn our sights on the Bucs and start preparing for a division rival." The Panthers held to Redskins to 79 rushing yards and 134 passing yards, while the Panthers offense tallied up 230 passing yards and 99 rushing yards. Delhomme played well despite throwing 2int's finishing 16/21 3TD's and 233 yards.

Following their big win against the Redskins, the Panthers took on the Tampa Bay Bucs. Again the offense played well. Delhomme finished 13/17 for 192 yards and 3 TD's, but the story of the offense this week was the rushing game. With D.Williams 100% healthy now, the Panther tallied up 256 rushing yards compared to the Bucs 36 yards. D.Williams for the game ran 32 times for 218 yards. The Defense played decent overall but continue to struggle with containing short passing plays (mostly plays in the flats) for a minimal gain. The Panthers went on to win the game 38 to 24 and with the Saints loss to the Giants, move them into a tie for 2nd in the Division with them. Just 1 game behind the Falcons who are in first after scoring 21 unanswered points with just 3 minutes remaining to beat the Bears 38 to 34. The NFC South race could be a tight one, and will be a fun division to watch through out the year.

    Carolina Panthers Team News

Gaston Gazette reports, that the Panthers will be starting MLB-D.Connor in place of L.Johnson in the ROLB position. Johnson is not hurt but sources say his lack of tackling has warranted Coach Clavens' decision. L.Johnson has only 10 tackles so far this year, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass deflection. Coach Claven had this to say about the switch at ROLB. "Teams have been taking advantage of our right side, using speed to get by. As a team we feel that Connor can provide not just alittle more speed on that outside, but better tackling." The Panthers will need better tackling this week when they face the Buffalo Bills tandem of Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson.

    Carolina Panthers Update

Well it's been awhile since we've heard anything out of the Panthers camp. Since then, the Panthers have gone 4-2. (both losses coming to AFC East teams) After the Falcons loss to the Bucs, Panthers now sit atop the NFC South @ 7-4 since they have a better divisional record then the Falcons. But the Falcons who are 7-4 and the Saints 6-5 are nibbing at their heels, the Panthers need to step it up in the upcoming weeks. The Panthers will face the Bucs, Patriots, Vikings, Giants and the Saints to finish off the season. The NFC South is up for grabs right now and the Panthers control their own destiny.

    Week 13 Update:

The Panthers squeaked out a close one against the Bucs. A game that they really shouldn't of won with the amount of turnovers they had. But a win is a win and they Improve to 8-4 and stay ahead of the Falcons by means of tie-breaker, though madden doesn't go by NFL tie breaking rules so realistically they are still in 2nd behind the Atlanta.

The Panther now have to head into New England and take on the Bradyless Patriots.

    Week 14 Update:

Panthers got Flattened by the Patriots. Newly aquired QB A.Walter was on fire, along with Fred Taylor and Randy Moss. Panthers lose 42 to 19 and after the Falcons beating the Saints, the Panthers Playoff hopes get alil damper. Panthers fall to 8-5 and are chasing the 9-4 Falcons for the NFC South.

Next Game Panthers come back home but play a must win game against the NFC North leading Vikings (12-1)

    Week 15 Update:

Panthers D' clawed their way too victory over the Vikings. Giving the Vikes only their 2nd loss of the season. Panthers win 51 - 39 in a game where Panthers had 3 Int's for Td's almost had a 4th but fell a yard short. With the win the Panther improve to 9-5 and are awaiting to outcome of the Falcon vs Jets. Jets are just 2-11 so the Panthers won't be holding their breath for a Falcons loss.

Next Game the Panthers go back on the road against the New York Football Giants (12-2). Panthers managed to hold AP of the Vikes in check but they are going to have to do more of the same when they meet former Panther and MVP candidate J.Stewart.

    Week 16: Update

The Panthers saw their playoff hopes crumble when they went into New York and got blanked 26 to 0 by the Giants. Giants Defense wouldn't let D.Williams get going and Delhomme looked to have 1 of his worst games this year. The Charlotte gazette has reported that their is a very good chance that Delhomme will be traded or let go before the start of next season. No word yet on whether the Panthers will look to acquire a QB via the draft/Free agency or if M.Moore will get thrown into the hot seat for next season.

It's a New Year for the Panthers and after a not so fruitful offseason the Panthers look to make their way into the Playoffs. Well so much for that. The Panthers new look offense as taken a huge decline. Having to play the Steelers week 1 was tough enough but after that loss they then have to on a 3 game road trip, in which they've already the first 2 of 3 and now stand at 0-3 in the NFC South. Playoffs look to be out of reach already for this team. They end their road trip against a struggling Cards team who lost K.Warner in the offseason. It is a must win for the Panthers. Looking foward Carolina schedule doesn't bod well. My prediction is Panthers will finish 5 -11.
