TFL 2011 Champions League and Europa Cup Result Thread - Week 4

    Posting Match Results

It is the responsibility of the winning club owner to post the results and summaries that immediately follow each match. In the event of a draw, the responsibility then falls onto the home club.

NEW for season-2 is we are now required to capture both assists and the man of the match.

    Example:

    Week 4

Manchester City (1) Aston Villa (1)

    Man City
    Goals:
    :goal:V. Kompany (41')

    AV
    Goals:
    :goal:D. Bent (47')

    NO BOOKINGS ON EITHER SIDE

    Great game @The Richuation
This was truly a beautiful match of footy. Both sides possessed very well creating build ups that would have their real life counterparts taking notes. Man City generated a vicious amount of threatening chances in the first half but found themselves getting stonewalled by American Brad Friedel. It wasn't until the 41' minute when the Set Piece Finisher Vincent Kompany found himself unmarked on a Man City corner where he would head it through for his 4th goal in all competition and 2nd in the CL. The second half would be one that saw AV dominate the ball possessing over 50% of the half. It was one that opened with a bang as well with Man City committing a costly turnover around half where AV was able to use their speed on the counter where Darren Bent did what only his name suggests. He bent the ball into the far post netting to beat Hart to equalize. Man City and Av would then exchange build ups that would ultimately fizzle out until after the 75th minute when Man City applied the pressure once more sending 4 shots at Friedel's way that just couldn't find their way through. A classic to end CL Group play for both squads and Man City now sits comfortably in the Semis with their bye and AV is unfortunately mathematically eliminated, for they needed a win to have hopes of moving on. They could however find themselves in the Europa League with a Tottenham win or draw over Hamburg this week.

Hamburg may have finally turned the corner of their troubles finishing. Following a 2-0 win over Lyon in league play, Hamburg drops 3 more against the Spurs. I believe that this win, coupled with Aston Villa's draw with undefeated Man City, allows Hamburg to just edge into the next round after being in 5th place for virtually the entire opening round. Big, big win for the boys.

I saved the replay of that overhead kick but it's not showing up yet. Great game.

This was a breath taking game. Valencia was great on defense until they took a 3-1 lead. Everything went downhill from there. Gokhan Unal found a hallway on the left wing and scored almost 2 identical goals within 7 minutes. Valencia was trying to get back the lead but on the 85th, Holosko placed the ball perfectly from outside the box sending Valencia home with tears.

Wow! Group B ends with a bang! Hamburg leapfrogs 3 teams in the table to take 2nd in the group and push @RynoAid into the Europe League and eliminate @The Richuation from European play. Great win Clutch!

Gokhan Unal scores 4th goal, beautiful header to the place no one has gone tonight, including the goalies gloves.
Not being able to beat Lyon in friendlies nor league, Istanbul BB was hoping for a tie to keep a safe spot in the standings. Instead they found a rusty Lyon that could not bring their usual best on the pitch. With this win Istanbul is close to a possible group lead and a strong presence for a cup run.
