Chargers 42, Chiefs 18 - Week 1 Kansas City, MO - A renovated stadium, new offensive and defensive coordinators, and more than a handful of new players couldn't alleviate the Chiefs from their woes to start the 2010 season. What seemed to be a great atmosphere on the first Monday night of the season was quickly turned into a silence as Leon Washington returned Dustin Colquitt's punt for a touchdown after the Chiefs quickly went three and out to start the game. The Chiefs and their crowd received another blow after a second three and out to start the home team's second drive. After the Chargers took a 14-0 lead on an Antonio Gates touchdown from Philip Rivers, the Chiefs took some satisfaction into the locker room as they held the Chargers close after a Ryan Succup field goal made the score 14-3 at halftime. The San Diego Chargers would find the endzone on their first drive of the second half, and the game looked to be a route. There was some hope though in this dissappointing opening day loss, as Thomas Jones took a hand-off from Jamaal Charles for an 80-yard touchdown to answer the Chargers third touchdown. The teams traded blows with touchdowns to Ryan Mathews and Dwayne Bowe, but the Chiefs couldn't pull off any more magic, as all hope was lost when a Matt Cassel interception was returned for a touchdown by Earl Thomas. When asked about the performance of his re-tooled team, General Manager Derek Miller gave us a short answer and was on his way. "We'll regroup and get at them next week."
