In a game that pitted two teams tied for the division lead, this game wouldn't be decided until late. The Raiders would elect to receive the kick and quickly the Chiefs defense would be felt as they delivered a hard hit that would cause the Raiders to fumble the ball. The Chiefs would capitalize as Jamal Charles would punch it in for a an early 7-0 lead. The Raiders would bounce right back and march right down the field and score a TD to tie it up 7-7.

Late in the second quarter, the Raiders would intercept an Alex Smith pass and return it for a TD to go up 14-7 with seconds left in the half.

The Raiders secondary was playing tight coverage as they picked off Smith 3 times during the game. The Chiefs WR's were highly ineffective as dropped passes and extremely tight coverage prevented any wideout from catching a pass in this game.

The Raiders defense had a bend but not break game all the way into the fourth quarter. The Chiefs were trailing 7-17 around the 5 minute mark when Charles would punch it in again to get the Chiefs within 3.

With a little over 2 minutes to go in the game, the Raiders faced a 4th and inches around midfield. Rather than punt and put the Chiefs deep in their own territory they opted to go for it. Marcel Reese took the handoff but was stuffed in the backfield where the Chiefs took over. They marched down the field and with 13 seconds to go, Charles raced in for his 3rd score on the day.

    21-17

I love it. A lot of games in this league are about coaching decisions and the consequences of those decisions. I'm sure Aaron would make the same coaching decision if he was presented with the same scenario again in the future. Nice stop and nice win, Troy!

Tough way to lose a game, but a great way to win one. That's a kind of win/lose that can turn a season around
